Nani’s Political Thriller on Cards

Natural Star Nani delivered his biggest hit with Dasara last year. He announced that he would soon work with Dasara director Srikanth Odela very soon. The scriptwork of the film is wrapped up and the extensive pre-production work has begun. Dasara producer Sudhakar Cherukuri will bankroll this big-budget attempt. As per the update, the film is said to be an intense political drama with loads of action. Nani will be presented in a new light and the final narrations are completed recently.

Srikanth Odela is busy finalizing the actors and technicians for the film. Santosh Narayanan will compose the music and background score for this untitled film. The shooting starts during the second half of this year. Nani will soon complete the shoot of Saripodhaa Sanivaaram directed by Vivek Athreya. He announced a new film to be directed by Sujeeeth and he is also holding talks with Balagam Venu for a love story.

Critically acclaimed Malayalam actor Shine Tom Chacko played the lead antagonist in Nani’s action drama Dasara that released last year. Shine Tom Chacko got engaged to his girlfriend Thanuja and the duo shared their clicks on their official social media pages. Shine Tom Chacko and Thanuja have been in a relationship from a long time and they got engaged on the eve of New Year. The duo got spotted together several times and they sparked rumours about their relationship. Shine Tom Chacko’s last film is Dance Party that won appreciation for his performance.

Chacko has done several impressive films in Malayalam after which he has been signing South films. Shine Tom Chacko will be seen in NTR’s Devara and he is playing an important role. He will also be seen in Nadikar Thilakam and Thankamani.

After Baahubali, RRR and KGF ended up as super hits, all the South actors are keen to release their films in the neighboring languages. When it comes to Telugu, actors like Chiranjeevi, Venkatesh, Balakrishna, Pawan Kalyan, Ravi Teja, Nani, Nikhil, Akhil, Bellamkonda Sreenivas and others announced their recent releases as pan-Indian films. However, most of the films did not get a theatrical release in neighboring languages and the release was restricted to film posters.

Nikhil’s Karthikeya 2 is the only successful pan-Indian hit from Telugu. The buyers of Nani’s Dasara too lost a hefty amount. Ravi Teja’s recent one Tiger Nageswara Rao too is a disaster in North and other South Indian languages. The films of all the stars are dubbed into South and Hindi languages as the digital players are acquiring the rights including all the languages. If there are buyers, these films are getting a theatrical release. Otherwise, the audience have to watch it on OTT platforms after the digital release.

Half of 2023 is already done and Tollywood rarely had super hits. With not a single big film releasing in summer, the best season was utterly wasted. The exhibitors struggled badly because of the flops which are high in number this year. Veteran actors Chiranjeevi and Balakrishna had a clash for Sankranthi and both the films ended up as money spinners. Waltair Veerayya was a super hit. Dhanush’s Sir raked huge money in Telugu and Tamil languages. Nani’s pan-Indian attempt Dasara made good money in Nizam and it was an average grosser in Andhra Pradesh. The film failed badly in all the other languages.

Dil Raju’s small film Balagam was a surprising hit of this year. Sai Dharam Tej’s Virupaksha is the only hit for Telugu cinema in this summer. The film ended up as the biggest hit in the actor’s career and it marked a perfect comeback for Tej. All the other summer releases fell flat. Among the dubbed films, Bichagadu 2 brought good profits for the buyers.

Films like Amigos, Das Ka Dhamki, Ranga Maarthaanda, Ravanasura, Meter, Shaakuntalam, Agent, Ramabanam, Ugram, Custody, Anni Manchi Sakunamule, Adipurush and others failed to live up the expectations among the Telugu releases this year.

Nani-starrer ‘Dasara’ to get a second life in Hindi on OTT platform

‘Dasara’, starring Telugu superstar Nani and Keerthy Suresh, is ready for a Netflix release in Hindi. The OTT platform released the trailer for the Hindi version on Thursday.

The official handle of Netflix India also shared the release date. It said: “If you thought that the Dhoom Dhaam was done, you’re wrong! ‘Dasara’ is coming to Netflix in Hindi on May 25th.”

Written and helmed by debutant Srikanth Odela, the period drama also features Dheekshith Shetty, Shine Tom Chacko, Samuthirakani, Sai Kumar and Poorna in key roles. The gritty film is set in the backdrop of the Singareni coal mines near Godavarikhani, Telangana.

The Telugu original of ‘Dasara’ was released on March 30 and it received mixed- positive reviews, but it went on to gross Rs 135 crore on a budget of Rs 65 crore.

After the success of ‘Dasara’, Nani has started work on his next movie, an emotional family drama currently titled NANI30, directed by another debutant filmmaker, Shouryuv. The film will also have Mrunal Thakur, who made her debut in the South with the Dulquer Salmaan-starrer ‘Sita Ramam’.

Dasara is a very ambitious film for Nani in terms of scale, makeover, and performance. But he does not stick to the genre and attempts an emotional drama film as his next, #Nani30.

He did not stick to Dasara despite a big success and did not forever enjoy the success. He silently shifted to #Nani30. With that, there is no scope for comparison and also, audience will appreciate the variety.

Telugu cinema has a chart of films that will release across the nation. Films like Micheal, Dasara and Shaakuntalam released across the nation and failed badly. Ravi Teja’s Ravanasura was announced as a pan-Indian film but it did not release in any other language due to various reasons. Akhil Akkineni’s Agent is hitting the screens on April 28th and is made on a huge budget.

The film is releasing in Telugu and Malayalam due to the last-day rush. The shoot is completed recently and the dubbing work is yet to conclude. Pan-Indian release needs a proper planning and a grand promotional plan. A bunch of films from young actors are announced for pan-Indian release but there should be takers or those who have to come ahead and bear the digital expenses. It is quite easy for the makers to release posters with pan-Indian release but it is not so easy for any film to have a grand release across the nation in all the major languages.

After 2 weeks of its run, Dasara has collected a worldwide gross of 112 Cr and a distributor share of 55.60 Cr. The film has registered very good numbers in Nizam, the Rest Of India markets (Telugu Version) & Overseas. But the numbers are very average in Andhra Pradesh. Especially ceded buyer is at a huge Loss with more than 1.5 Cr. The film can be termed a Hit overall despite losses for a few buyers. It is a Flop in all other languages.

Dasara had a good extended first week with a worldwide gross of 97 Cr. Worldwide distributor share is at 54.60 Cr. The film will breach the 100cr gross mark today and will become the first Nani film to cross the mark. It is a profitable venture for Nizam, ROI (Telugu) & Overseas buyers but the AP area needs a solid run in the coming weeks to reach the breakeven mark. Also, this is the first Nani film to cross the 50cr share mark.

Nani thanked Mahesh Babu, Prabhas, Rajamouli, Sukumar and others for supporting the film and promoting the positive word of mouth. He also responded about the sequel for Dasara. He said that there would be no sequel for Dasara and it is a single part. He also said that Dasara is a single piece and there is no score for the second part.

Dasara is a love story set in the backdrop of Telangana in Karimnagar district. The film is directed by a debutant Srikanth Odela and the film had Keerthy Suresh as the leading lady. Sudhakar Cherukuri invested big on the film and Nani’s performance along with the technical aspects worked big for the film. Nani is currently shooting for his next film in Goa and the film will release this year.

Dasara continues to do well in Nizam but AP remains below par

Dasara is continuing to collect well in Nizam area but has seen considerably first drop in Andhra Pradesh (7 areas) on its first Monday. The film has seen a drop again on the Tuesday which is a nominal one but considering the collections on Monday which are the lower side, the film should have hold at similar levels on Tuesday.

It has collected 1.22 Cr share & 1.05 Cr in Nizam on Monday & Tuesday respectively Monday while AP is at 0.77 Cr , 0.62 Cr. The film is sold for 20.5 Cr in Total AP out of which is 14 Cr for the Andhra Region (UA, East, West, Krishna, guntur , Nellore) & 6.5 Cr for Ceeded. Andhra Region share for 6 days stands at 11.7 Cr against the valued 14 Cr rights. The film will cross the valued mark in UA area which is an own release by Dil Raju & East Godavari which was sold. Other areas like West, Krishna , Guntur needs solid hold in the coming weekend for a breakeven.

Ceeded area buyer is the biggest looser for this film as it is underperforming bigtime from the second day. The film is sold for 6.5 Cr here and it collected about 4 Cr in 6 days. Even with solid run the film might collect little above 5 Cr and the buyer is going to loose more than 1 Cr.

The regional factor for the film is helping it do collect well in Nizam area but AP market is dull. Recently this has happened for Balagam which was even worse in AP but that’s understandable as the film is a non starrer. But that’s not the case with Dasara.

Dasara had a very good extended weekend worldwide as the film has collected a distributor share of 42.60 Cr (excluding GST). Pre-Release business of the film is around 47 Cr (excluding GST) and the film should comfortably cross that mark during weekdays. The film has done excellent business in Nizam but the holds in AP could be better, especially in Ceeded where it is sold for a much bigger rate for the hero.

Overseas is also excellent for the film with more than 2 Million gross, USA itself has contributed about 1.6 Million.

Natural Star Nani is shooting for a romantic entertainer that is yet to be titled. After a small break, the shoot resumes tomorrow and a lavish schedule is planned in Goa. The schedule will continue for 40 days and a major portion of the film will be wrapped up in this key schedule. Shouryuv is making his directorial debut and Mrunal Thakur is the leading lady. The film is expected to hit the screens later this year.

With Dasara turning out to be a blockbuster, the asking price for the non-theatrical and theatrical rights of this film is high. He will complete the shoot of this untitled film and he will soon work with Vivek Athreya in a romantic entertainer. DVV Danayya will produce this film. Nani has HIT 3 lined up and he is holding talks for several other films and they will be announced at a later date.
