Megastar’s film to have a Prequel?

Megastar Chiranjeevi scored a solid hit with Waltair Veerayya and the film released during the Sankranthi holiday season. The actor picked up the remake of Lucifer in the past and it was made as God Father. Despite mixed reviews, the film ended up as an average grosser. There are strong reports that the film will have a sequel soon. Mohan Raja confirmed the same in the past about the sequel of God Father. The film explores about how Megastar emerged as a don.

There are reports that Mohan Raja started working on the script of the film and Megastar will take the call once the script gets locked. Megastar is currently focused on Bhola Shankar and the film is expected to have a summer 2023 release. Meher Ramesh is the director and Keerthy Suresh, Tamannaah will be seen in other prominent roles. AK Entertainments are the producers of this Tamil remake.

Godfather Worldwide Closing Collections – FLOP

Godfather film’s worldwide theatrical run has ended, the film has collected a distributor share of 55.80 Cr (excluding GST input).

The film is a flop at the box office. In Nizam area the distributor has lost heavily, It is a loss venture in the USA market as well . In USA , it was sold for 6.3 cr (6.70 Cr expenses) and collected only a 5.30cr share there. East Godavari buyer has lost money as well.

Remaining areas’ loss or breakeven cannot be calculated as it was distributed through own network of buyers

After the extended first weekend in the Telugu States, the film dropped big and never recovered from there. It has collected some shares thereafter but that ain’t enough for the expectations of the film. The film is a second consecutive failure for Chiranjeevi after Acharya.

The film is the third 50cr film for the hero in the 4 films that he has done post-comeback and that’s the highest among the Senior heroes along with Venkatesh (SVSC, F2 & F3).

No second week advantage for God Father

Megastar’s God Father opened on a decent note and the positive word of mouth made the film mint decent money during the Dasara holiday weekend. The collections dropped big time during the weekdays. With no major releases this weekend, everyone predicted that God Father will stay super strong over the weekend. Despite of no major releases, the film did not pick up and remained low across the Telugu states. Kannada film Kantara opened on a decent note across the Telugu states and the collections have seen a huge jump from the evening shows.

Katara witnessed packed houses in the evening and night shows. The word of mouth for the film is extremely positive. KGF makers Hombale Films are the producers and Rishab Shetty directed and played the lead role in this Kannada film. The advance sales for Sunday are super strong and the film is expected to dominate God Father. Other small films Boyfriend For Hire and Crazy Fellow opened on a dull note. Past releases The Ghost and Swathi Muthyam lost trace in their second week.

Megastar Chiranjeevi’s Godfather is going steady at the box office even on the working days. The success has come as a huge relief for Chiranjeevi and he says audience accepting the film will motivate him to do more such diverse roles.

“Charan mentioned about Lucifer to me one day. He said Sukumar told him it would be perfect for me if minor changes are done. I watched the film once again and got convinced. Sukumar gave us the idea but became unavailable later. After that Mohan Raja came on board,” Chiranjeevi said.

“The changes we made worked. Introducing Sister sentiment worked big time. Mohan Raja worked really well. This layer along with Political Drama worked very well for the film. Thaman breathed life into the character. Audience accepted me even without songs and dances. It motivates me to do more diverse roles,” Chiranjeevi added.

“Godfather Success is a collective effort. I should give the credit to everyone. #Mega154 will have all commercial elements expected from me. For Bholaa Shankar, we made good changes and there is a good dose of entertainment,” Chiranjeevi revealed.

Sensational director Puri Jagannadh played a cameo in Megastar Chiranjeevi’s recent film God Father. The duo participated in an Instagram live chat during which an interesting conversation took place. Megastar questioned Puri about their long-delayed and discussed film ‘Auto Johnny’ for which Puri had a quick answer. “Will come and meet you soon with another script. Auto Johnny is kept aside. I am penning one more interesting script for you” told Puri.

Megastar made fun saying that he has given an opportunity for Puri in God Father and he is waiting for his turn. Puri thanked Megastar for the gesture and he clarified that he would meet soon with a powerful script. Megastar also asked Puri to go ahead if he has his own commitments. The film after a good first extended weekend dropped on Monday which was expected considering how the films have fared after the Dussehra period in the past. Godfather has a good extended weekend (5 days) worldwide with a distributor share of 46.50 Cr. After a good opening, the film sustained well on the following days leading to a good weekend in both the Telugu States and Overseas. The film is own release in the Telugu States except for Nizam where it is sold on an NRA basis. Theatrical rights of the film in the Telugu States are valued at 65 Cr. It needs to be seen how the film will sustain from today but generally films just crash after the Dusserah period.

He received the first phone call from the producer NV Prasad after the first show in London was completed. Chiranjeevi told that he was relaxed after he received continuous calls from USA from producers like Mythri Naveen and Anil Sunkara. “It is not about the successes and experience, every film is important. My wife was left tensed and it reached me before the day of the release” told Chiranjeevi.

“I was sleepless and was waiting for the release. Even after the film received a positive response, I was calm and silent. God Father is a beautiful gift from the audience. If the content is impressive, the audience will rush to the theatres. God Father is compared to my previous super hits and I can thank the audience. Ram Charan was pretty confident on Lucifer and he wanted me to remake the film. NV Prasad and Ram Charan finalized Mohan Raja’s name and I was very confident” told Chiranjeevi. God Father is directed by Mohan Raja and is produced by Super Good Films and Konidela Production Company.

Megastar Chiranjeevi’s God Father released during Dasara and the film is having a dream run all over. Along with the performance of Chiranjeevi, Thaman’s background score is widely appreciated. During a recent interview, Thaman shared an emotional experience of him with Megastar. He said that he received a one and a half minute audio note from Megastar on the day of the film’s release and he said that he was moved with the gesture of Chiranjeevi. He said that Megastar spoke about the film and the young music composer was left emotional.

“I was moved by the gesture of Megastar. I was quite emotional and did not share it with anyone except my mom. This is because she was missing me as I am working without breaks. I am not going home on time because of the hectic work and my commitments. After listening to the voice note, she said she understood about the sacrifice and my hard work. I was left in tears and I sent a two-minute voice note to Megastar. Chiranjeevi garu saw everything in life and he worked with several top music directors. But he came forward and messaged me. This is my biggest ever compliment” told Thaman.

King Nagarjuna delivered one more debacle with The Ghost. The film failed to register minimum openings and it did not even take the advantage of Dasara holiday season. The film is said to be a stylish action entertainer and the shoot commences later this year. Mohan Raja is giving the final touches for the script. Akhil Akkineni is rumored to play a powerful role in this landmark film of Nag. This happens to be the 100th film for the actor. Story:

God Father is about BRAHMA (Chiranjeevi) the force behind the ruling party. As incumbent chief minister PKR dies, fight erupts within the party for the next Chief Minister post. Strong contenders for the next CM position are PKR’s daughter Satya Sri ( Nayanatara) , Jaya Dev ( Satya Dev) and Home minister Verma ( Murali Sharma). Brahma’s objective is to protect the JJParty and CKR’s daughter. Rest of the film is how Brahma and his rivals plan to take control of the state.

Analysis:

God Father Movie takes off with intense political drama and family feud around the chief minister’s family. Chiranjeevi role is characterized as a creator, and named after the same creator god.Brahma. Chiranjeevi is the invisible force behind the chief minister PKR family. After PKR death, PKR’s son-in-law Jaya dev tries to become the chief minister. Brahma intercepts and continuously foil Mr Jaya dev attempts. The bonding between PKR and Brahma has been established emotionally, but the growth of the Brahma as a force (Don) wasn’t established convincingly. The Dubai mafia support to Brahma, Masoombhai( Salman Khan) thread and international mafia dons’ meeting etc. scenes are not dealt well.

PKR’s daughter Satya Sri (Nayanatara ) is unaware of her husband Jaya Dev’s dark side. Under Jaya Dev’s trap, Satya Sri tries to make him as the Chief Minister. But, Brahma outwits Jaya Dev and how is able to make Satya Sri as the chief minister is rest of the story. Chiranjeevi’sBrahma characterization is a mixed bag. While it suits his age, the mass audience might not like the idea of protagonist being passively showing the heroism. As per the characterization Brahma is majority of the times shown taking back seat in the action than active. At some point, while Salman Khan Fights against the villains chiranjeevi is shown walking behind salman under his protection. Script wise this approach is absolutely fine but might be a negative with core masses. Last 30 minutes of the film is a clichéd one.

Overall, director Jayam Mohan Raja did a good job in balancing the remake and customizing to telugu audience. Konidela Pro production values are adequate, but the VFX work is poor. SS Thaman provides loud and mass appealing background score for Godfather. Nirav Shah Cinematography is good. Marthand K Venkatesh’s editing is adequate.

Performances :

Megastar Chiranjeevi getup suits his age, performance is subtle and Good. Satya Dev and Nayana Tara added solid performances and both are fantastic. Salman adds to the star power and it is nice to see both Megastars together on the screen. However, there is not much depth in his character. Murali Sharma, Sayaji Shinde got good roles. Puri Jagannath got a significant role as journalist.

Positives:

  • Two mass appealing fights

Negatives:

  • Salman Khan’s scenes
  • Backstory Chiranjeevi’s Brahma character
  • Lack of typical chiranjeevi elements like Dance, comedy for his fans

Verdict:

Godfather stays true to the original with adequate tweaks to appeal to Telugu audience. Brahma’s role is tailor made for the Megastar Chiranjeevi, which he plays in efficient manner. Overall, if you like political themed films, Godfather keeps you engaged .
