TDP celebrates MLC victory in AP

1

The TDP on Thursday celebrated the party’s victory in the MLC elections from the Assembly. The party leaders congratulated Panchumarthi Anuradha on her election to the Upper House in the state.

Anuradha had won with 23 first preference votes, while the other six YSR Congress MLCs had won with 22 first preference votes. The seventh candidate of the YSR Congress Kola Guruvulu lost the election.

TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu congratulated Anuradha and the party MLAs for the party’s victory in the electoral battle. He said that good days have started for the party and the journey would end with the party forming the government after the 2024 general election.

He made an appeal to the rank and file of the party to work with the same spirit and ensure that Jagan Mohan Reddy government is thrown out of the state. He wanted the party leaders to keep their differences aside and work together to bring the party back to power in the next election.

Party general secretary Nara Lokesh took to his twitter handle to hail the party’s victory. “We were heckled for winning 23 seats. But on the same 23rd day, we won with 23 votes,” Lokesh tweeted.

Senior leader Gorantla Butchaiah Chowdary said that the victory of the TDP would restrict the YSR Congress to the single digit in the coming elections. He said that people across the state were turning against the YSR Congress and it was clearly seen in the recent graduate MLC elections.

The elections have brought new enthusiasm among the party cadre, asserted party senior leader and former MP, Kambhampati Rammohan Rao. He thanked every MLA for ensuring the party’s victory in the MLC election from the Assembly.

Former minister and party MLA Ganta Srinivasa Rao termed the TDP’s victory as the return gift for Jagan Mohan Reddy. “We will keep giving him this sort of return gifts one after the other from now,” the former minister asserted.

Naidu’s strategy pays, TDP wins MLC seat in AP

0

The last-minute decision by TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu paid rich dividends for the party with the party winning the lone MLC seat from the Assembly quota on Thursday. TDP candidate, Panchumarthi Anuradha, had won the MLC election in the closely fought election.

The ruling YSR Congress had named seven candidates for the seven vacancies, while the TDP fielded one candidate. Each MLA was required to get 22 first priority votes to win and accordingly the parties were confident of winning their seats.

However, four dissident MLAs from the YSR Congress voted for the TDP giving a cakewalk for the party candidate, Anuradha, who polled 23 votes. The other candidates of the ruling party have secured 22 votes, while the six candidates of the YSRCP were declared elected after counting the second priority votes.

This was the third consecutive victory for the opposition TDP after its thumping victory in the Graduate MLC elections held last week. The rank and file of the opposition TDP are celebrating the victory and claiming that the downfall of Jagan Mohan Reddy had started.

Chandrababu Naidu and Lokesh congratulated Anuradha on her victory. The TDP chief felicitated the MLC-elect at the party office as the rank and file hailed the leadership of Chandrababu Naidu.

Lokesh confident of TDP sweep in coming Assembly polls

1

TDP general secretary, Nara Lokesh, on Sunday expressed confidence that the party will sweep the entire State in the coming Assembly elections.

“The fan (symbol of the YSRCP) will get only single digit seats in the next elections,” Lokesh said addressing a massive public meeting at Kadiri as part of his ongoing pada yatra, Yuva Galam.

Stating that he is fortunate enough to undertake pada yatra in a historical place like Kadiri, Lokesh promised to set up a tourism circuit soon after the TDP is back into power to develop temple tourism here.

Maintaining that the results of the State Legislative Council polls are only trailer, Lokesh said that the TDP will exhibit the real picture in 2024. Chief Minister, Jagan Mohan Reddy, has misused the single chance that the people have given to him, he felt.

Jagan has taken Andhra Pradesh to number one position in the country only in ganja smuggling, heavy borrowings and increasing the fuel prices, Lokesh said and asked whether the Chief Minister has fulfilled his promise of filling the vacant posts regularly.

“Hundreds of people are losing their lives by consuming this cheap liquor but the Government is only bothered about minting money through the sale of this liquor,” he explained.

Lokesh expressed confidence that the TDP will certainly be in power in the coming polls. Recalling Jagan’s slogan ‘why not 175’, Mr Nara Lokesh said that the people of all the 175 Assembly segments are bidding bye bye to Jagan.

Council results indicate rebellion among voters, feels Chandrababu

1

The results in the latest results of the Legislative Council elections clearly indicate that rebellion began among the voters but not a change, feels former chief minister and TDP president, Nara Chandrababu Naidu, on Sunday.

Thanking the voters for giving a tremendous victory to the TDP in the polling held for the Graduates constituencies in the Upper House, Chandrababu Naidu told media persons here that the results clearly indicate the anti-incumbency among the people.

Terming it as a people’s victory, the TDP supremo said that by electing the TDP candidates the people have reposed complete faith and confidence in the party.

Observing that the people have predicted the future of the State a couple of days before the Ugadi, Chandrababu said that the election results reflect the inconceivable pain of a government employee, the suffering of a farmer, an underprivileged, the common man and a student who are over-burdened with rising prices.

The agony of an average person living in fear under an anarchic regime is completely reflected in these election results, the former chief minister felt.

Terming the latest polls as a war between Jagan and the five-crore people of the State, the TDP supremo said that the destruction that he caused to the State and the large-scale corruption will certainly teach him a fitting lesson.

Though the courts have pulled up this Government several times, the ruling party leaders have not learnt any lessons, he remarked. How dare the YSRCP create obstructions to the Opposition simply by imposing restrictions, Chandrababu asked and felt that democracy has certain checks and balances and the ruling party should follow them religiously to win the people’s confidence.

The graduates constituencies polls covered 108 Assembly segments and 5,000 to 25,000 voters cast their ballot in each segment, the former chief minister said and stated that money, silver articles and other material was distributed to the voters everywhere. Even voters were enrolled with fake graduate certificates, he said and observed that despite all such atrocities the voters reposed confidence only in the TDP.

Pawan thanks graduates for defeating the YSRCP

0

Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan thanked the graduate voters in the state for defeating the ruling YSR Congress candidates in the just-concluded MLC elections.

Pawan Kalyan termed the results of the MLC elections as an indication to the YSR Congress party’s defeat in the next general election. He said that the Graduates MLC elections also show the increasing resentment of the people in the state against the YSR Congress.

The Jana Sena chief said that the people were vexed with the arrogant and corrupt rule of the YSR Congress in the last four years. The YSR Congress ledaers have become headstrong with power, he said.

He termed the graduates as the torch bearers of the state and said that the results reflect the mood of the people. He wanted the graduates to create awareness among the people against the YSR Congress and continue the mood to defeat the ruling party in the next election.

Pawan Kalyan said that he had been creating awareness among the people emphasising the need to defeat the YSR Congress. Finally his repeated speeches have paid the dividends in the form of graduates defeating the ruling party.

The Jana Sena chief said that the defeat of the YSR Congress candidates in the three constituencies was a slap on the face of chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy. He sought to advise Jagan Mohan Reddy to pack his luggage and be ready to move out of the office of the chief minister.

He appealed to the people to learn the lesson from the graduates who showed the way in the three constituencies. He also congratulated the three candidates who have won the MLC elections defeating the YSR Congress.

Is TDP’s victory in MLC election from Assembly quota assured?

0

The opposition TDP had won all the three Graduates Constituency MLCs finally. The party’s election strategy had helped the party win the three seats against all irregularities of the ruling party.

The party’s winning-spree is likely to continue in the MLC elections from the Assembly quota if the numbers are to be taken seriously. The TDP has 23 members officially and the YSR Congress has 151 members. The YSR Congress has the support of the lone Jana Sena member.

Going by these numbers, the YSR Congress would get the first preferential votes of 21 members for its seven candidates, while the TDP would get the first preferential votes of 23 members. The YSR Congress would have to sacrifice the seventh candidate if it has to win the balance six candidates.

If the four dissident MLAs of the TDP defy the party whip, it would get the first preferential votes of 19 members and the YSR Congress would win all the seven seats. But, there is a rebel MLA, Kotamreddy Sridhar Reddy, who may also defy the party’s whip and vote for the TDP. In such a case, the TDP would get the first preferential votes of 20 members.

If the TDP would be able to get at least one or two more dissidents from the YSR Congress, or if one or two members of the YSR Congress cast invalid votes, then also the TDP will certainly win its candidate and the YSR Congress would have to lose its seventh candidate.

In any case, it is not going to be easy for the YSR Congress to have all its seven candidates win the MLC elections from the Assembly quota. Given the defeat of the party in the just-concluded Graduate MLC elections, YSR Congress would have to do a lot of homework to defeat the TDP’s candidate, thanks to Chandrababu Naidu’s strategy.

Shah, Nadda congratulate T’gana BJP over MLC poll victory

0

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP national president J.P. Nadda and other central leaders on Friday congratulated the party’s Telangana leadership over the victory of BJP-backed candidate in the Legislative Council election.

Shah termed the victory of A.V.N. Reddy from Mahabubnagar-Rangareddy-Hyderabad teachers’ constituency as historic.

He congratulated Reddy, BJP state president Bandi Sanjay and the entire state unit of the party.

“This victory shows that Telangana people are fed up with corruption and want a pro-poor, transparent govt under PM Modi’s leadership,” tweeted Shah.

Responding to the tweet, Sanjay said that the collective movement of people belonging to various sections against the corrupt government of the KCR family is reaching its peak under the leadership of the BJP.

He claimed that the election result is proof that the entire people of Telangana are waiting for a double-engine government.

He exuded confidence that with the same spirit, the party will achieve final victory with the help and guidance of the Central government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Nadda also took to Twitter to congratulate Reddy, Bandi Sanjay and the party’s state unit for ‘historic victory’. The BJP president wrote that the people have discarded the BRS once more and have embraced the BJP’s vision under Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

BJP national general secretary B. L. Santosh also congratulated AVN Reddy for “well deserved win”.

“It’s another mandate against anti anti-poor, anti development, corrupt, dynast BRS party and their arrogant leadership,” he said.

Sanjay in his reply to the tweet stated that this election proved strong anti-incumbency against the dictatorial BRS, especially among employees and the ‘educated.’

Another central leader of BJP and incharge for Telangana, Tarun Chug also described the victory of the BJP candidate from the Mahbubnagar-Rangareddy-Hyderabad teachers’ constituency of the Telangana Legislative Council as historic. He congratulated all Telangana BJP workers along with A.V.N .Reddy and Bandi Sanjay.

Reddy had contested as the candidate of the BJP affiliated teachers’ union.

He was declared elected Friday after 21 rounds of counting, defeating his nearest rival G. Chennakesava Reddy of PRTU.

After the victory, Reddy went to the BJP office and called on Bandi Sanjay, who congratulated him.

Meanwhile, the BRS ridiculed Sanjay for taking credit of the win just for extension of his term. BRS leader Krishank Manne clarified that BJP did not contest the election. He said the BJP neither fielded any candidate nor supported anyone.

MLC elections give wake up call to Jagan

0

The graduate constituency MLC elections have given a wake up call to YSR Congress president and chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy. The results of these elections are in favour of the opposition TDP and give a clear warning to the ruling party.

Jagan Mohan Reddy had moved heaven and earth to win all the three graduates’ constituency elections. He had asked his party MLAs and Ministers to work and had deployed them in the respective constituencies two months before the schedule was released.

He also held two rounds of meetings with the rank and file of the party and one meeting with the MLAs and Ministers. He told them to win all the three seats and nothing less would be acceptable to him.

Now, the results are against his wishes and plans. The results show that the ruling party did not improve its popularity among the educated and urban voters.

Saddest news for the party is its defeat in North Andhra where the party had been focusing more from the past two years. Jagan Mohan Reddy had announced that he would be shifting to Visakhapatnam in July and the announcement was made in the middle of the election at the investment summit.

However, it looks like these announcements have not convinced the educated votes, if one goes by the results. He is unable to move these voters who are still in favour of the TDP.

The TDP’s alliance plan also worked well for the party. It was able to convince the educated voters that the Jagan Mohan Reddy government had failed to develop the state. Despite Jagan holding the investment summit and displaying the big investors in Visakhapatnam, the voters rallied around the TDP and not backed the YSR Congress.

TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu said that the end of Jagan Mohan Reddy started with his defeat in the graduate MLC elections. He claimed that the people are turning towards the TDP and would dump the YSR Congress in the Bay of Bengal in the 2024 general election.

Three BRS candidates elected unopposed to Telangana Council

0

All three candidates of Telangana’s ruling party Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) were Thursday elected unopposed to the Legislative Council under MLA quota.

Deshapati Srinivas, K. Naveen Kumar, and Challa Venkatrami Reddy were declared elected as no other candidate was in fray. Thursday was the last day for withdrawal of nominations.

An independent candidate had filed the nomination but the same was rejected by the Election Commission. Returning officer declared that all three candidates of BRS have been elected without contest.

While Naveen Kumar has been elected to the upper house of the state legislature for the second term, two others are first-time MLCs.

Poet and singer Srinivas was earlier serving as Officer on Special Duty in the Chief Minister’s Office. Venkatrami Reddy is a former MLA from Alampur constituency.

Soon after their election, the three MLCs called on BRS president and Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao. He greeted and blessed them.

Meanwhile, counting of votes was on for Mahabubnagar-Rangareddy-Hyderabad teachers’ MLC seat. As none of the candidates polled more than 50 per cent of first preference votes, the poll officials took up counting of second preference votes. A.V.N. Reddy had polled 7,505 first preference votes while Chenna Keshav Reddy secured 6,584 votes. The result is likely to be announced on Friday morning.

TDP, YCP clash as polling ends for nine MLC seats in AP

0

Barring stray incidents of fisticuffs, polling for the nine MLC seats in Andhra Pradesh was held peacefully and successfully on Monday. TDP and the YSR Congress activists clashed with each other at Ongole, while it went on well in the rest of the districts.

Polling for the four MLC seats from the local bodies constituencies of Srikakulam, West Godavari and Kurnool is going to be one sided as the ruling YSR Congress has absolute majority in the local bodies. The election here was forced with the presence of independent candidates who refused to withdraw their nominations. Five other MLC seats from the local bodies were unanimous as there were no other nominations filed.

Election was held for the local bodies MLC seats of one each in Srikakulam and Kurnool and two seats in West Godavari district. The ruling YSR Congress is sure of its victory here.

The polling for the three graduate constituencies and two teachers constituencies spread over the Rayalaseeema and north Andhra regions too was peaceful barring complaints of fake voters. The opposition TDP lodged complaints with the Chief Electoral Officer about the fake votes. However, the EC said that the issues raised by the TDP were addressed.

Polling was held for Visakhapatnam-Vizianagaram-Srikakulam Graduates constituency where BJP sitting MLC P V N Madhav is seeking re-election. The YSR Congress and the TDP have fielded their candidates here.

The two other Graduates constituencies of Prakasam-Nellore-Chittoor and Kurnool-Anantapur-Kadapa too were held peacefully. The two teachers constituencies in these six districts too have seen peaceful polling on the day.

The officials have shifted the ballot boxes to the eight strong rooms as the counting is to be held on March 16. The officials have provided pool proof security for both the polling and at the strong rooms.

While the counting of votes for the local bodies is likely to be over on the same day on March 16, the counting of votes for the teachers and the graduates MLC seats is likely to take at least two days as the officials would have to count the first and second priority votes.

TDP to move HC on MLC elections, alleges irregularities

0

TDP politburo member, Varla Ramaiah, on Monday said that the government officials and the police crossed the limits in murdering democracy in the elections held during the day for the Legislative Council.

The TDP will approach the AP High Court seeking justice in the matter, Ramaiah told media persons. “Chief Minister, Jagan Mohan Reddy, reposed faith in the backdoor methods to win the polls and at least 30 per cent of the votes polled for both the Graduates and Teachers constituencies are bogus,” he observed.

What is the fun in welcoming the ineligible voters to the polling booths by the officials and the police, Ramaiah asked. The TDP politburo member expressed surprise that YSRCP MLA, Bhumana Karunakar Reddy and his son, Abhinay, were allowed inside the polling booth and the TDP leaders, who questioned this have been taken into custody.

When the District Superintendent of Police (SP) of Tirupati and the State Election Commissioner are violating the laws why Chief Electoral Officer, Mukesh Kumar Meena, is silent, he asked. Ramaiah demanded the immediate involvement of the Central Election Commission on the Legislative Council polls in Andhra Pradesh.

Are the laws are applicable only for the TDP leaders like party national general secretary, Nara Lokesh and are they not applicable to YSRCP leaders like Y V Subba Reddy, the TDP politburo member asked and wanted the Director General of Police (DGP) to reply on the style of functioning of the Tirupati SP and the Visakhapatnam SP.

How Subba Reddy is allowed to campaign near the polling booths, he said. “Is Subba Reddy allowed as he is the uncle of the Chief Minister,” Ramaiah asked. He also demanded that a report be prepared by the Chief Electoral Officer on these elections and forward it to the poll panel in New Delhi.

TDP-PDF tie-up in MLC polls is to avoid division of anti-incumbency votes, says Naidu

0

Former chief minister and TDP president, Nara Chandrababu Naidu, on Saturday made it clear that his party had an alliance with the PDF in the ongoing polls for the Teachers and the Graduates constituencies in the Legislative Council only to avoid division of anti-incumbency votes so that the outrageous YSRCP should not win the seats.

In an open letter to the voters in these elections, being held on Monday, Naidu felt that ever since the YSRCP came to power in the State, democracy has been continuously being subjected to virtual onslaught. As part of this attack, the ruling party, under the leadership of Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy, is resorting to turn the ongoing elections for the Graduates and Teachers constituencies in the Legislative Council as a farce, Naidu said in the open letter.

“I am writing this open letter to tell the public, particularly those who exercise their franchise in these polls, the developments that have become a serious threat to democracy,” the TDP supremo said. Observing that the TDP always believes that power means a prime responsibility and government means an opportunity to serve the public, Naidu said that the TDP always functioned keeping in view the needs of the people and the future of the youth.

“When TDP came to power in 2014, the TDP strived hard to get investments to the State facing several challenges and against heavy odds. We have created 10 lakh jobs both in public and private sector and also paid Rs 2,000 each as unemployment allowance to over 6 lakh youth thus standing by them,” Naidu recalled.

“We have experienced a large-scale irregularity by the YSRCP in the Local Bodies polls held two years ago. The candidates from the Opposition parties were not even allowed to file their nominations and that is how the ruling party misused its power,” he remarked.

“Thus, I want the people and the voters in these elections to act sensibly and with awareness to teach a fitting lesson to the YSRCP. We have witnessed how bogus votes were polled in Tirupati by poll and now the shameless YSRCP again wants to go in the same path,” Naidu said.

TDP to field MLC candidate from Assembly quota

1

The Opposition TDP is said to be contemplating on fielding its candidate for the MLC seat from the Assembly quota. According to highly placed sources, the party is in favour of fielding its candidate this time.

There are seven MLC seats falling vacant on March 29 for which election notification was issued on March 6 and the last date to file nominations is March 13.

The ruling YSR Congress had named all the seven candidates and they filed their nominations on Thursday.

Each party requires 25 votes to win the MLC seat and the TDP has 23 seats in the House. Though four of the 23 MLAs are keeping away from the party and have become the associate members of the ruling party, the TDP leadership is confident of getting their votes by issuing a whip.

The election would be held on the priority votes with each MLA giving first priority vote and second priority vote to the candidates of their choice. If the first priority votes are not enough to declare a candidate elected, the officials then would count the second priority votes.

Keeping this option in mind, the TDP leadership is said to be exploring the possibility of fielding its candidate this time. The party fielded its candidate in the Rajya Sabha elections earlier and is now planning the same political game.

Sources say that TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu had zeroed in on the candidature of party spokesperson Panchumarthy Anuradha, who served as Vijayawada Mayor in the past. However, there was no confirmation yet from the party sources as Chandrababu Naidu is said to be holding consultations with the party senior leaders and the MLAs.

Notification issued for 7 MLC posts in Assembly quota

0

The Election Commission on Monday issued notification for the seven MLC posts from the Assembly quota. Five MLCs are retiring on March 29, while two more have died before ending their term.

YSR Congress MLC Challa Bhageeratha Reddy died in November 2021, and TDP MLC Batchula Arjunudu died this year.

The State Legislature will receive nominations from the candidates till March 13. The officials would scrutinise the nominations on March 14 and the last day for withdrawals is March 17. The EC would hold elections on March 23 if required.

The ruling YSR Congress had enough strength to win all the seven seats unopposed. The party had already named its candidates for the vacancies. It had nominated Pothula Suneetha, who is retiring along with others on March 29, for another term.

Among those retiring, there are five MLCs from the YSR Congress and two from the opposition TDP. Nara Lokesh and Batchula Arjunudu are retiring from the TDP. Arjunudu died on February 3.

From the ruling YSR Congress, its sitting members, Gangula Prabhakar Reddy, Dokka Manikya Varaprasad, P V V Suryanarayana Raju, Pothula Suneetha are retiring, while Challa Bhageeratha Reddy died in November 2021. However, Pothula Suneetha and Suryanarayana Raju were renominated by the ruling party.

The ruling YSR Congress had already named its candidates for all the seven seats as the opposition TDP has no strength to field its candidates.

The YSR Congress fielded Suryanarayana Raju, Suneetha, Kola Guruvulu, Bommi Israel, Jayamangala Venkata Ramana, Chandragiri Yesurathnam and Marri Rajasekhar, for the seven vacancies.

BCs get lion’s share in AP MLC list from YSR Congress

1

Ruling YSR Congress had nominated 11 BC candidates for the MLC vacancies in the Legislative Council. Party general secretary and government advisor Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy released the list for 18 MLC vacancies including two nominated posts, on Monday.

The YSR Congress is sure of winning all the 18 seats as the party enjoys clear majority in the local bodies and the Assembly.

The only contest now for the MLC posts is for the three graduate constituencies and two teachers constituencies spread over Raylaseema and Uttarandhra regions.

There are nine vacancies in the local bodies constituencies of Srikakulam, East Godavari, Nellore, Chittoor, Kadapa and Ananthapur districts, while there are two vacancies in the West Godavari district.

In the Assembly quota, there are seven vacancies coming up in March for which elections are also scheduled for March 13. In addition, there are two vacancies coming up in July this year in the nominated quota by the Governor.

Two castes, Vaddera from the BCs and Erukala from the STs are two castes that are entering the Upper House for the first time.

Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy met the MLC candidates immediately after the announcement of their names. He told them that he had done his part of the job by giving greater representation to the BCs and other weaker sections. He asked them to do their best by getting the party retain the power in the coming elections.

Jagan to clear MLC candidates names soon

0

Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy is likely to clear the names of the MLC candidates for the local bodies constituencies. While the notification was issued for the MLC elections on February 16, no nomination was filed so far.

The Election Commission had issued notification for the election of nine MLCs from the local bodies, three MLCs from the graduates constituencies and two MLCs from the teachers constituencies.

Jagan Mohan Reddy had named the candidates for the graduates and teachers constituencies. However, he is yet to name the candidates for the nine local bodies constituencies in a day or two, as the last date for the filing nominations is on February 23.

According to the sources, the chief minister had cleared the candidature of former TDP MLA Jayamangalam Venkata Ramana, who had joined the YSR Congress only on Thursday. It was on the promise of the MLC seat that the former MLA had quit the TDP and joined the ruling party.

Venkata Ramana is from the fishermen community and enjoys strong hold in the community in the Kolleru region of the undivided West Godavari and Krishna districts. His entry is likely to give an edge to the YSR Congress in the 2024 general election.

Jagan Mohan Reddy is also in favour of bringing some seniors from various districts into the Legislative Council this time as his party has clear victory in the local bodies elections. The party would also win all the seven MLC seats from the Assembly quota, though notification was not issued yet.

Jagan Mohan Reddy would have the difficulty only in the fight for the three graduates and two teachers’ seats.

Keeping all these factors into consideration, Jagan Mohan Reddy is taking time to clear the names as that would help him win more Assembly seats in the coming elections.

Parties name candidates for Graduate MLC polls

0

The political parties in Andhra Pradesh have taken the Graduates MLC elections seriously, as the general elections are just 14 months away from now. Unlike in the past, this time all political parties in the state have decided to field their candidates for the graduates constituencies.

Three graduate and two teacher MLC seats are falling vacant by March 29 and the Election Commission has released the schedule for the elections. The polling for these seats, besides the nine local bodies seats, would be held on March 13 and notification would come on February 16.

The ruling YSR Congress had named P Shyamprasad Reddy for the Prakasam-Nellore-Chittoor graduates constituency, while the TDP had named Kancharla Srikanth and the BJP named S Dayakar Reddy.

Similarly, for the Kadapa-Anantapur-Kurnool constituency, the ruling YSR Congress named V Ravindra Reddy, while the TDP named Ramgopal Reddy and the BJP fielded N Raghavendra.

The BJP had nominated the sitting MLC P V N Madhav for the Srikakulam-Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam constituency, while the ruling YSR Congress named S Sudhakar followed by the TDP naming Chiranjeevi Rao.

The teachers and the graduate MLCs were hitherto left to the teachers unions but the 2017 biennial elections saw political parties too fielding their candidates. The TDP-BJP combine nominated PVN Madhav for the Srikakulam-Vizianagaram-Visakhapatnam constituency and won the seat.

This time, the political parties are also planning to enter the election of the teacher constituency elections. Elections for the Chittoor-Nellore-Prakasam constituency and Anantapur-Kurnool-Kadapa constituency are scheduled for March 13 along with the three graduates constituency MLC elections.

MLC Elections – will Jana Sena back TDP?

0

Andhra Pradesh is scheduled to see the biennial election to 9 MLC seats on March 13. The Election Commission has released the schedule and is set to issue notification on February 16.

The election to the MLC seats in the local bodies constituencies are likely to be one sided with the ruling YSR Congress having a clear edge.

However, the election to the three Graduates Constituencies and two Teachers Constituencies, is set to see a direct and tough battle. The Left parties’ sponsored Progressive Democratic Front is set to give a tough fight both in the two categories of the constituencies, the YSR Congress, TDP and the BJP too are set to have their candidates.

Elections are scheduled for the Teachers constituencies of Chittoor, Nellore and Prakasam, Anantapur, Kurnool and Kadapa districts. Similarly, the Graduates constituencies of Srikakulam, Viziangara and Visakhapatnam in the north Andhra, Chittoor, Nellore and Prakasam in the south coastal Andhra and Anantapur, Kurnool and Kadapa districts of Rayalaseema region are set to see a tough battle.

Currently, the Graduates constituency of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam is held by the BJP’s P V N Madhav, while the Anantapur, Kurnool and Kadapa seat is held by the YSR Congress Party’s Vennapusa Gopala Reddy.

The TDP and the YSR Congress have decided to field their candidates for the Graduates Constituencies directly and have their candidates for the Teachers constituencies. As this is going to be a crucial election with the general election only 13 months away, the TDP is trying to get the support of the Jana Sena.

If the Jana Sena has to support the TDP, it would have to break its alliance with the BJP first as the BJP is also set to contest the election. It is to be seen what step that the Jana Sena would take once the notification is issued on February 16.
