Rs 5000 Cr burden on people due to Jagan liquor price hike: TDP

1

Liquor price hike is no doubt putting a heavy burden on people. Question is whether it is a proper time to punish people. Former Finance Minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu says that except the YSR Congress Party, no other Government anywhere else had resorted to impose financial burdens on the people in this critical Coronavirus epidemic. The Jagan Reddy Government hiked liquor prices only under mounting pressure from distilleries who have paid huge commissions.

Ramakrishnudu says that the present price hike would amount to a burden of Rs. 5,000 Cr on the people. At a time when the public health was in serious danger, the AP Government was playing with the lives of the people without any commitment. This is not a right context for resorting to such arbitrary hikes of taxes. The TDP would categorically condemn the 25 per cent hike in liquor prices.

The Opposition Leader in Legislative Council reminded the Government that in a difficult time like this, it would be correct to take up relief measures and save the vulnerable people from falling victim to the killer virus. Already, arrack was flowing freely all over the state with the ruling party leaders themselves selling it through the volunteers. Spurious liquor sales would also pick up posing serious health risk to people.

Stating that liquor sales continued in violation of nationwide lockdown, Mr. Ramakrishnudu said that sales were continued through backdoor in AP liquor shops. Earlier, there were reports of rats chewing at iron products but now, very strangely, rats were accused of drinking liquor under the present AP government.
Mr. Ramakrishnudu deplored that by hiking taxes, the YSRCP Government was taking back from the poor families double the amount compared to what meagre assistance it was providing them in the name of welfare. In the past one year, the people were suffering on account of hike in rates of RTC fares, current bills and sand prices. The liquor price hike was intended to squeeze blood out of poor families. Instead of safeguarding them, the Government was pushing poor people further into deeper trouble.

The former Minister said that while other states were giving nutritious food to enhance immunity of poor people to keep virus at bay, AP Government was bringing liquor shops within reach of poor families giving a double blow to them. The YSRCP had deceived the same people who had trusted its manifesto’s welfare programmes and gave a huge mandate. The price hike should be withdrawn immediately in the larger interests of the state.

Chandrababu respecting lockdown unlike YSRCP: TDP MLA

1

Telugu Desam Party is hitting back against YSRCP comments on Chandrababu Naidu staying at home in Hyderabad. TDP is asking why ruling party leaders are violating restrictions of COVID lockdown. TDP MLA Nimmala Ramanaidu has strongly objected to TTD Chairman YV Subba Reddy taking all his family members in a crowd for darshan at Tirumala Temple in total violation of the Central Government’s COVID-19 lockdown norms.

He deplored that while TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu and the whole world were duly respecting the virus preventive measures, the ruling YSRCP MPs and MLAs were unabashedly putting people’s lives at risk with their irresponsible activities.

Ramanaidu asked how YV Subba Reddy could leave Hyderabad and land in Tirupati in the morning, later to go to Prakasam district in afternoon and then to go to Tadepalligudem by night. Obviously, the AP Government was applying lockdown restrictions only for the opposition leaders and common public but not the ruling YSRCP leaders. Another MP Vijayasai Reddy was always known for his continuous violations of crowd gatherings and social distancing norms.

Ramanaidu pointed out that unlike YSRCP MPs and Ministers, Chandrababu Naidu was abiding by lockdown norms and staying at his residence but continuously working from there through virtual conferences to create positive and useful awareness on the war against the Coronavirus epidemic. Instead of fighting the killer virus, the AP Government puts its focus on using even lockdown norms and guidelines to harass the Opposition leaders with false police cases. Such narrow-minded and misadministration by YSRCP had caused a spurt in virus cases in AP now while all other states were reporting lesser cases these past few days.

The TDP MLA told Finance Minister Buggana Rajendranath Reddy not to tell lies but give a simple clarification whether or not his brother Hariharanadha Reddy was a business partner of Viswanatha Venkatasubrahmanyam whose firm Sanders Medicals Pvt Ltd was given order for supply of rapid testing kits. By engaging a mediator unlike Chattisgarh, the AP Government purchased the one lakh kits at a very high price resulting in Rs. 30 Cr scam. BJP AP President Kanna Lakshminarayana had given full proof towards this but Buggana was only making fake challenges to divert the attention of the public.

Ramanaidu accused CM Jaganmohan Reddy of being ruthless and heartless in not spending a single rupee out of AP State funds for preventing starvation deaths of poor workers while Rs. 6,400 Cr was distributed to his favoured contractors in a time of virus threat. The Centre had released Rs. 4,000 Cr COVID funds and Rs. 500 Cr were received by the CM Relief Fund through public donations but no effort was made to given enough cash assistance to poor workers. For the third time, the Centre was going to send essential commodities but AP was not able to distribute even dal properly to the needy poor families.

Kanagaraj’s election preparations caused COVID spread : TDP

1

From day one, State Election Commissioner Justice Kanagaraj made whirlwind visit of AP. While he is making visits to AP from Tamil Nadu, the neighbouring state is constructing walls on borders to block AP people. TDP says right from start, SEC Kanagaraj sent out wrong message on election preparedness despite virus threat. That led to YSRCP leaders holding rallies and spreading infections. Now, Former Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has written an open letter to the people of Andhra Pradesh, appealing to them to protect themselves by personally taking all possible preventive measures against the dangerous COVID threat. The +ve cases doubled in just a month’s time in AP while the ruling YSR Congress Party leadership was not taking either initiative or responsibility to strengthen the fight against the invisible enemy.

It was unimaginable that a COVID-like danger would threaten people. The AP situation deteriorated ever since State Election Commission gave a call for election preparedness despite nationwide lockdown in the midst of virus infections. Following this, the YSRCP leaders began holding rallies, crowd-based gatherings and door-delivery of benefits. Such open violations of lockdown coupled with the failure of official machinery led to the present non-stop rise in Coronavirus cases in the State.

Mr. Chandrababu Naidu expressed surprise that even in a time of extreme calamity, the YSRCP was still looking for political advantage instead of giving total focus to public health and safety. The ruling party was only concerned with painting its flag colours on government buildings rather than speeding up virus tests and treatments. The YSRCP leaders were solely focusing on local body elections instead of saving the people from the virus epidemic and the lockdown impact on the livelihoods. The +ve cases at AP Raj Bhavan and in ruling party MP’s family reflected the failure of the Government. It was alarming that six members including four doctors in the MP’s family tested positive while several persons contracted virus in Raj Bhavan. Many letters were sent to the Government but it had not given standard protection kits to doctors, paramedical staff, sanitation staff, police, journalists and other frontline workers.

Mr. Naidu said that negligence of ruling party leaders in AP had sent a wrong message which led to neighbouring states constructing walls on AP borders. Telangana was preventing Mahbubnagar people from going to virus-hit Kurnool while Tamil Nadu blocked inter-state highway to block people going there from Andhra Pradesh. All this was happening because of YSRCP misplaced attention to shift Capital City in a time of serious steps required for virus containment.

Stating that migrant workers were in a dire situation, Mr. Chandrababu Naidu deplored that construction workers, weavers, toddytappers, fishermen, auto drivers, artisans and others depending on small professions were facing severe hardships. Anna Canteens and Beema insurance would have given lot of confidence in these workers in these troubled times.

Mr. Naidu said that the real test to leadership would be a calamitous crisis like the present COVID threat but the ruling party leaders were not able to take up this challenge. Whereas, the TDP was continuing its social responsibility just as it took part in relief efforts in 2009 Krishna district floods and Uttarakhand flash floods though it was in opposition at that time also.

Higher hotspot districts in AP caused by Govt negligence: TDP

0

CM Jagan Reddy is facing multiple shocks from courts, rivals and now from the Centre. Former Minister K.S. Jawahar held the YSRCP government’s negligence responsible for the relatively increased number of red zone districts in Andhra Pradesh when compared to the country average. Over 170 out of the total 736 districts were declared as hotspot districts at the rate of one in five districts in the country while, in Andhra Pradesh, an alarming 11 out of the total 13 districts were classified as hotspots.

Jawahar accused the Jaganmohan Reddy government of having wasted precious time by targeting Opposition leader Chandrababu Naidu instead of taking effective measures which eventually led to the current unchecked rise in Coronavirus +ve cases. Like God’s script coming true, even CM’s favored Visakhapatnam district was named as hotspot despite the government’s all-out efforts to cover up COVID-19 cases in the proposed administrative capital.

Chandrababu Naidu wrote letters to both the Prime Minister and the AP Chief Minister while the PM implemented some of the positive suggestions contrary to CM Jagan who totally ignored Naidu’s valid points. Ignorance and half-knowledge are continuing to be the hallmarks of Jagan Reddy rule. Because of its lack of seriousness, the AP people’s health and lives are endangered now.

Mr. Jawahar asserted that Education Minister Adimulapu Suresh was talking irresponsibly about 95 per cent of the poor people wanting English medium but the Minister failed to realise that students had freedom to choose their medium of study as per the Constitution. Great personalities like Swamy Vivekananda, Mahatma Gandhi, Rabindranath Tagore and Nelson Mandela advocated mother tongue as a natural and best medium for empowering a student’s pursuit of knowledge. However, YSRCP Ministers are making totally different statements.

The former minister said that the latest ridiculous statements once again proved that YSRCP MP Vijayasai Reddy should not have been allowed to come out of jail. Though Vijayasai has no locus standi to complain to the police on the former SEC letter to the Centre, he dared to expose his ignorance before the public.

TDP honoured Ambedkar with Bharat Ratna: Naidu

0

Former Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu paid glowing tributes to Dr BR Ambedkar on the occasion of his jayanthi celebrations across the country. He recalled how the Telugu Desam Party under the leadership of its founder NT Rama Rao honored Ambedkar in 1990 with the Bharat Ratna, the country’s highest civilian award. NTR was the National Front Chairman at that time.

Wishing the people for his jayanthi, Mr. Naidu said that in accordance with Ambedkar’s ideals, the TDP has given top priority to Dalits in educational, employment and political opportunities. The previous TDP government allocated Rs. 54,621 cr for Dalit welfare in its five budgets.

Mr. Naidu asserted that to cherish Ambedkar ideals among future generations, the TDP allotted 25 acres in Amaravati Capital City for erecting a 125-ft Memorial Statue. SC reservations in employment promotions were implemented. Through SC Finance Corporation, thousands of crores were sanctioned for helping 3 lakh Dalit boys and girls. Real tribute to Amedkar would be by achieving economic self-sufficiency for Dalits. Ambedkar Videshi Vidya Nidhi was begun to give Rs. 15 lakh assistance for SC students going for foreign studies.

Mr. Naidu said that thanks to the Constitution framed by Ambedkar, justice is being done to the poorer sections of society now and his ideals focused on creating an egalitarian society with equality, freedom and fraternity breaking free of divisive casteism. The TDP strove for erecting Ambedkar bronze statue in the Parliament. During the TDP rule in combined AP, Justice Punnaiah Commission was appointed in 2003 for welfare and development of SCs and STs.

All 5 crore AP people in isolation except YSRCP leaders?

2

The TDP leaders are facing lockdown problems to freely move around in view of the lockdown. They are unhappy that the YSRCP leaders are using COVID-19 crisis to their political advantage. Now, the TDP says despite restrictions, Ministers and MLAs are continuing their sand, soil and liquor mafia activities. The YSRCP leaders are irresponsibly violating lockdown norms while 5 crore people of Andhra Pradesh are in self-isolation as per the Central government’s call, said former minister Devineni Umamaheswara Rao.

Stating that TDP National President Chandrababu Naidu got stuck in neighbouring state, Mr. Uma said that despite the lockdown constraints, Mr. Naidu has been continuously in contact and giving daily directions to the party’s cadres on how to help the people in this hour of need. As per Opposition leader’s demand, the government should pay Rs. 5,000 for poor families. Poor patients are not able to buy medicines in villages and they are not able to lead their lives with just Rs. 1,000 given by the government. Ministers should ensure opening of paddy purchase centres to pay Rs. 1,370 per 75 kg paddy bag as middlemen are trying to buy the same at Rs. 800 by misleading farmers. Rs. 20 cr worth jasmine crop was damaged in Mylavaram area.

Mr. Uma objected to CM’s orders for bringing banana to sell in Krishna and Guntur markets where the local farmers were losing their crop due to lack of support from the government. Jagan Reddy made false claims in PM video conference on virus situation. Even CM’s Tadepalli residence is located in the same Guntur district which is placed under wholesale curfew and total lockdown on account of rapid spread of Corona cases.

Was Justice Kanagaraj quarantined on his arrival? asks TDP

0

The Telugu Desam Party leaders are stepping up their political attack on ruling YSRCP on its threat to quarantine Chandrababu Naidu if he comes to AP from Hyderabad. The TDP leaders are asking whether the government took steps for sending new State Election Commissioner Justice V. Kanagaraj for quarantine. Justice Kanagaraj arrived from Chennai to Amaravati and met Governor and all SEC staff. How can the AP government allow him to move freely without putting him under observation as per 14 day quarantine norms? Unfortunately, Jagan Sarkar gave preference to 84-year-old Justice Kanagaraj over 65-year-old Ramesh Kumar.

Former Minister Alapati Rajendra Prasad has said the ruling party Ministers and MLAs are talking about sending Chandrababu Naidu to quarantine for the sake of taking political mileage. The YSRCP government is indulging in cheap political games at a time serious preventive measures are required to save people from virus threat. It was Ramesh Kumar who save AP from Coronavirus epidemic by postponing elections. If he had not postponed elections, 4.5 crore voters would have stood in queue lines in last week of March causing great health risk. The GOs reducing SEC term and removing Ramesh Kumar were unethical and unlawful. Constitutional experts and even former CEC Qureshi declared AP government’s action as unconstitutional.

Jagan statements in PM Modi meet immature and painful: TDP MP

0

Telugu Desam Party MP K. Ram Mohan Naidu has termed AP Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy’s claims of lesser COVID-19 threat to AP in his presentation to Prime Minister Modi as immature and politically motivated.

He questioned the rationale for AP CM to tell the Prime Minister that lockdown restrictions would be enough in some specific zones only in Andhra Pradesh but not the entire state.

Mr. Ram Mohan Naidu reminded CM of the fact that his Orissa counterpart had already extended lockdown till April-end even though the neighbouring state reported only 50 Corona cases for a population of 4.5 crore while AP had reported over 400 cases for a population of 5 crore. PM Modi has been speaking to experts, industrialists, doctors and now to Chief Ministers of all states to contain the epidemic, while Jagan Reddy is avoiding everybody and making painful decisions.

Mr. Ram Mohan Naidu accused the AP CM of continuing his stubborn stand which was to downplay and ignore Coronavirus threat from the beginning. This was why the CM targetted and finally removed State Election Commissioner N Ramesh Kumar regardless of Ramesh Kumar’s mature decision to postpone the local body elections depending on the situation at that time. Even now, Mr. Jagan Reddy is not leaving his non-serious attitude with regard to the need for eradicating COVID-19 disease from the state.

Stating that vendetta politics would be more disastrous in a time of virus epidemic, Mr. Ram Mohan Naidu said that YSRCP’s narrow-minded governance was evident once again from how secret GOs were used to remove Ramesh Kumar from SEC post. While Ramesh Kumar displayed foresight to avoid health crisis in AP by postponing elections, the CM continued to target him with a personal vengeance. The YSRCP government should not ignore virus threat any further considering how world countries and different states like Orissa are taking most serious preventive measures.
Mr. Ram Mohan Naidu demanded that the AP government should at least now give Rs. 5,000 as asked by TDP National President Chandrababu Naidu for poor families as they would suffer even more if the expected extension of nationwide lockdown becomes true. There are also fears that the lockdown restrictions would be continued for the next four to five months in view of the unchecked rise in Corona cases in different parts of the country.

Extend lockdown till April-end: TDP Politburo urges Centre

0

The Telugu Desam Party Politburo held a meeting over video-conferencing in accordance with the nationwide lockdown guidelines and expressed concern over the rising number of COVID-19 +ve cases and its increasing threat to all sections of people in the two Telugu States and in the country.

Considering the deteriorating situation, the TDP Politburo appealed to the Central government to extend nationwide lockdown till April-end. It complimented civil society organisations, industrialists, NGOs and others in Telugu states for donating liberally to the cause of fighting Coronovirus.

Briefing the Politburo resolutions at a press conference, former minister Kaluva Srinivasulu said that their party resolved to demand a special package from the State government to quench the hunger of poor people, daily wage and construction workers, agricultural labourers, SCs, STs, BCs, Minorities and artisans. Though TDP National President Chandrababu Naidu demanded Rs. 5,000 cash assistance first but AP government gave just Rs. 1,000 which is not enough under these continuing lockdown conditions.

The TDP Politburo also took serious view of the ignorance and arrogance with which CM Jaganmohan Reddy was continuing to neglect transportation and marketing facilities for farmers’ crops. The farmers of horticulture, paddy, aquaculture and sericulture are now in danger of incurring severe losses because of lockdown problems.

0

TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday is holding politburo meeting with party leaders via video conference to discuss the threat of the coronavirus spread and the measures intiiated by the state government to contain the spread of the contagion.

The meeting will mainly focus on the lack of medical supplies, including PPEs, masks, gowns and other equipment across hospitals in the state to protect doctors, nurses and paramedical staff against the novel coronavirus as they struggle to take care of patients. The politburo meet will also take up the problems faced by the farmers and migrant workers.

The politburo meeting is attended by senior TDP leaders Ashok Gajapathi Raju, Yanamala Ramakrishnudu, Ayanna Patrudu, Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy, Ravula Chandrasekhar Reddy, Atchannaidu, Kalva Srinivas, Kala Venkat Rao among others.

COVID-19 crisis not a time for telling lies: TDP tells YCP

1

TDP MLA Nimmala Rama Naidu is taking strong objection to the Jagan Reddy government’s claims that the previous Chandrababu Sarkar pushed AP into serious debts. The MLA says that as usual, the YCP leaders are continuing their stories of lies without being least bothered about the serious crisis that the people are now in. All other states and whole world are spending lots of money to take preventive steps against the virus.

Strangely, in Andhra Pradesh, the Jagan Reddy government is least bothered about the immediate priorities. The TDP MLA said that the government’s claims of financial crisis are false because it has received all the taxes for 356 days out of 365 days last year. The lockdwon problem arose only for nine days in the last days of March.

Rama Naidu asserted that the Chandrababu government had cleared all pending bills left by the earlier YSR government. Likewise, the Jagan government should have to pay the pending bills left by the previous regime. Government is a continuous process, which CM Jagan is refusing to accept.

Jana Sena unofficial tie-ups with TDP to defeat YCP

0

The State Election Commissioner N. Ramesh Kumar has postponed the local body elections in AP. But the YCP leaders are making active efforts to win 90 per cent seats in the field level. Seeing this, the opposition leaders in local levels are entering local tie-ups to share MPTC, sarpnches and ZPTC seats. Jana Sena candidates are having these understandings with TDP in Coastal region. The situation is especially serious for YCP in Krishna, East Godavari, West Godavari and Guntur district.

Even the BJP state level and district level leaders are not able to interfere with this. They have realised that Jana Sena and TDP unofficial alliances are unstoppable any longer. Analysts say that the anti-Jagan Circar feelings are running deeper than expected. The highhanded bevarious of YCP MLAs and Ministers and the attacks on opposition candidates have angered Jana Sena and TDP local leaders to a large extent. They are also preparing to strongly counter YCP bid to sweep polls through misuse of power.

Political circles say that Jagan Reddy will face bigger resistance in the coming months going by how TDP and Jana Sena are making uniting efforts in field level.

Supreme Court order a slap in the face of Jagan Circar: TDP

0

TDP Legislature Party Deputy Leader K Atchannaidu asked CM Jaganmohan Reddy now whether he can criticise the Supreme Court also for not defending his government’s stand on local polls. The Apex Court has set aside the AP government’s petition to order re-starting of the local polls. But the court clearly ordered that it cannot interfere with the powers of the State Election Commissioner N Ramesh Kumar. As of now, the ruling YCP launched a caste based personal attack on SEC. CM himself asked whether he was chief minister or Ramesh Kumar.

Now, Atchannaidu is asking whether CM Jagan can also confront the Supreme Court along similar lines. From CM to CS to Ministers and MLAs, all made a bitter attack on Ramesh Kumar. CS even wrote a letter to override the powers of State Election Commissioner. Now, will they continue to criticise SEC? Atchannaidu described the latest Supreme Court order as a slap in the face of CM, his government and all his YCP leaders.

Atchannaidu asked Jagan at least now to realise the importance of addressing and resolving public issues. The CM should immediately hold a press conference and tell the public what steps his government is taking to prevent the corona virus epidemic.

Naidu trolled as ‘AP’s first Corona casualty’, TDP complains

0

The TDP has took strong exception to social media trolling against party chief and former CM N Chandrababu Naidu terming him as ‘first corona casualty in Andhra Pradesh’. Naidu’s pictures were morphed and posted on social media saying that Naidu died due to corona.

The TDP leaders expressed ire at the AP police for not taking any action against the persons who posted these messages.

TDP leader and former minister Kollu Ravindra on Tuesday objected to severe trolling of leader of the opposition N Chandrababu Naidu for the decision of the SEC postponing elections to local bodies by six weeks.

He sought to know from the government why the police are not taking serious action against such persons who are deriving sadistic pleasure with such messages.

He demanded the police to book cases against them.

For the past several days, some persons have targeted Chandrababu for their trolling. Morphed images are being posted in social media garlanding an image of Chandrababu, who was described as the first Corona death in Andhra Pradesh.

Ravindra questioned why the police remained silent on this issue when they took the TDP activists into custody for having criticised the YSRCP government,

The TDP had lodge a complaint with the police against such posts.

Naidu begins corona thermal screening at TDP office

0

The Jaganmohan Reddy government is not pressing the panic button for corona virus. Its priority is to get local elections restarted immediately. On the other hand, while the government is not proactive, Opposition Leader Chandrababu Naidu is actively taking steps to create as much awareness as possible on the pandemic. Now, Naidu has introduced the virus thermal screening at the TDP Central Officer in Amaravati Capital City.

Naidu made it compulsory for all visitors and party leaders to undergo thermal screening at the entrance itself. If anybody is found having more than 100 degrees temperature, he or she will not be allowed to enter the office. Obviously, anybody have fever due to any reasons will not be allowed into the premises. Fever, cough and cold are some of the symptoms of the corona virus.

Today, along with Naidu, former ministers K Atchannaiadu, Nimmakayala Chinarajappa, Nimmala Kistappa and others were screened. Naidu had also instructed his party leaders from districts not to come to the party central office unless it is an emergency. He asked them to avoid social gatherings and stay away from multiple public touch points like bus door handles, public conveniences, shop counters, etc for safety sake.

TDP MLC K E Prabhakar quits party

The steady wave of deflections from TDP to YSRCP seems to be unabated. After the recent exit of senior TDP leaders, including party MLC Dokka Manikya Varaprasad, Kadapa strongman Satish Reddy and Balakrishna’s close friend Kadiri Babu Rao to the ruling party in Andhra Pradesh, now it is the turn of TDP MLC K E Prabkhar.

Ahead of civic body elections, Kurnool TDP MLC and former chairman of the State Irrigation Development Corporation, has quit the party. Prabhakar has been miffed with the party leadership over allotment of tickets to candidates in Kurnool for the upcoming elections. Prabhakar, who quit the party on Friday, requested the party leadership to accept his resignation.

Kamabalapadu Ediga Prabhakar is the younger brother of K E Krishna Murthy, former deputy chief Minister (Revenue) of Andhra Pradesh, while K E Prathap who is Dhone TDP in-charge is the third brother. Although K E Prabhakar did not disclose his future political plans, the obvious choice for K E Prabhakar seems to be Jagan’s party. Meanwhile, K E Krishna Murthy said his brother did not consult with him regarding his move to quit the TDP as it was his personal decision and that he was free to join any party he feels good for his political career.

The KE family, who hail from Kamabalapadu in Kurnool, are traditional rivals to the Kotla family. The political rivalry runs deep between the Kotla and KE families, which simmered during the times of Vijayabhaskar Reddy and KE Madanna, Krishnamurthy’s father when both were in the Congress. KE Madanna’s son K E Krishnamurthy joined the TDP after a fallout with Vijayabhaskar Reddy over the Dhone assembly ticket. When former chief minister Kotla Vijayabhaskar Reddy’s son Suryaprakash Reddy joined the TDP, it was thought the families would bury the old hatchet.

K E Prabahakar joins the long list of party leaders who quit TDP recently, including former minister and two-time MLA Dokka Manikya Varaprasad Rao who resigned from the primary membership of the TDP and joined the YSRCP in the presence of its president and Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy at his camp office.

Dokka’s exit was followed by TDP leader and Kadapa’s strongman Satish Reddy, who challenged the supremacy of Y S Rajasekhara Reddy in Pulivendula, quit the party expressing his displeasure over N Chandrababu Naidu’s leadership. In Prakasam, former MLA Kadiri Babu Rao quit the TDP and met Jagan Mohan Reddy to join his party. Kadiri Babu Rao, a close associate of Nandamuri Balakrishna and a Kapu strongman in Prakasam, was upset with the TDP high command for allotting the Kanigiri ticket he won in 2014 elections to former Congress leader Ugra Narasimha Reddy and shifted him to Darshi in 2019 elections. Prakasam strongman Karanam Balaram too decided to quit the TDP for admitting his arch rival Gottipatti Ravikumar into party fold.

Exodus in TDP, Naidu facing existential crisis

1

After losing its cadres to the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) and the Congress in Telangana, Telugu Desam Party (TDP) – the party founded by matinee idol N T Rama Rao and led by his son-in-law Chandrababu Naidu – is also losing its muscle in coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema. Ahead of civic body elections, TDP is facing existential crisis with exodus of party’s key leaders to YSRCP. Naidu once considered by many as the country’s only politician with a 21st century vision has now turned myopic with his political miscalculations.

After the crushing defeat at the hands of the young and aggressive YSRCP president Jagan Mohan Reddy in 2019 elections, the aged Naidu (70) seems to be crestfallen with no fresh ideas to inspire the party’s cadre and completely out of sync with his electorate as well as out of touch with ground realities. The recent exits of important leaders of his party, including the rivals of the Kadapa strongman and former chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy shows that Naidu has lost the big plot. The exits show that there is a definite erosion of faith among party leaders in Naidu’s leadership. A man who had courted three Bills — Bill Clinton, Bill Gates and Dollar Bill; and once hailed as a kingmaker now looks clueless on how to keep his flock together. The man who claims to have shaped the idea of the Hyderabad today with its IT hubs and modern infrastructure now seems to be a poor shadow of self, a lone voice in TDP crying in wilderness. TDP members from different districts, including a few state leaders, have joined the TRS. At least 10 prominent TDP members joined the TRS after the bifurcation of the united Andhra Pradesh.

The first setback for Naidu was when his most trusted senior leaders and former ministers T Devender Goud and E Peddi Reddy quit the party in protest against lack of clarity on separate statehood to Telangana. Four-time MLA Talasani Srinivas Yadav, a rebel TDP leader, quit the Sanathnagar MLA seat as well as the party’s membership and joined the TRS in 2014. This was followed by former MLA from Maheshwaram and Hyderabad Mayor Teegala Krishna Reddy. Another prominent TDP leader Revanth Reddy, known to be the closest aide to Naidu, quit the party after the changed political environment post formation of Telangana. The tragic loss of Srikakulam strongman Yerran Naidu, always stood behind Naidu, dealt a big blow to Naidu. What started in Telangana, soon spread to coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema. Leader after leader, day after day, are deserting the Naidu camp. Another blow hit Naidu hard was the tragic death of prominent Muslim leader Lal Jan Basha in a road mishap on his way from Guntur to Hyderabad. The deaths have left a political vacuum in TDP that Naidu couldn’t fill.

In coastal Andhra, leaders from the TDP joined the YSRCP in droves before the 2019 elections as they lost confidence in the political fortunes of the party. Most jumped the ship realizing that Naidu lost his image as a winning horse.

Anakapally Lok Sabha MP Avanti Srinivas resigned from the TDP to join the YSRCP. This was followed by Chirala MLA Amachi Krishna Mohan. Several leaders who quit the party blamed the widespread casteism and favoritism in the party with key positions in the government during Naidu regime occupied by Naidu’s Kamma community. Kurnool MP Butta Renuka, MLC Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy and former minister Aadala Prabhakar Reddy shocked the TDP by switching over to the YSRC. The exodus did not stop. In East Godavari, TDP’s Thota Trimurtulu joined YSRCP, former MP and former minister Konathala Ramakrishna, former MP Vanga Geeta from East Godavari, senior TDP leader from north Andhra Dadi Veerabhadra Rao and his son Dadi Ratnakar joined the Jagan bandwagon.

In the more recent times, former minister and two-time MLA Dokka Manikya Varaprasad Rao resigned from the primary membership of the TDP and joined the YSRCP in the presence of its president and Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy at his camp office.

The biggest setback, however, is his son Nara Lokesh who lost his first election in Amaravati. Naidu projected him as heir apparent, but Lokesh lacks the political shrewdness or astuteness to steer the party to the next level if Naidu were to step down as the party chief. TDP now is a weak party with a strong but an aged leader. The party cadre, probably even Naidu himself, is clueless in which direction the party is headed. With exodus of prominent leaders and a burnt-out leader still at the helm of TDP, it is unsure if the party will ever see a turnaround in its political fortunes.

AP got huge FDIs during TDP govt rule: Vijayasai Reddy

0

Strange it may sound but YSRCP leader and Rajya Sabha member Vijayasai Reddy has admitted officially that Andhra Pradesh attracted huge Foreign Direct Investments (FDIs) during TDP government rule.

Vijayasai Reddy who criticises TDP government and former Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu day in and day out by conducting press meets and also on social media platforms, submitted a report to the Centre that AP attracted 6897.97 million US dollars (approximately Rs 50,000 crore) FDIs in three years between 2016 and 2019 when N Chandrababu Naidu was ruling the state.

Vijayasai Reddy is the chairman of parliamentary standing committee for union commerce ministry.

In his capacity as chairman, Vijayasai Reddy submitted a report saying that AP stood sixth in the country in attracting higher FDIs.

The report says that the first place was occupied by Maharashtra (44,459 million USD), followed by Delhi (23,681 million USD), Karnataka (17,429 million USD), Tamil Nadu (8,305 million USD), Gujarat (7,260 million USD) and AP stood sixth at (6,897 million USD).

Vijayasai Reddy’s report proves that all his criticism against TDP government and Naidu of AP going backward during TDP rule were rubbish.

Vijayasai Reddy himself confirmed that his allegations were fake with his own report.

Karanam Balaram puts speculations to rest, joins YSRCP

0

Putting days of speculations to rest, TDP senior leader and Chirala MLA Karanam Balaram has finally decided to join the YSR Congress Party.

On Thursday, Balaram along with other TDP leaders left to Tadepalligudem to meet YSRCP president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy.

Speaking to media, the senior TDP leader said it was not an overnight decision but a well-thought one to quit the party in order to serve the people of Chirala.

Karanam Balaram was miffed over TDP president and former chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu’s decision to admit into the party fold his arch rival YSR Congress MLA from Addanki Gottipati Ravikumar. As a matter of fact, Karnam Balaram’s followers and Ravi Kumar traded blows during a meeting in Ongole. Naidu was in the know of the bitter rivalry between Balaram and Ravikumar but miserably failed to pacify both the warring groups in Prakasam. The rivalry reached to such a level that it adversely impacted the party not only in Addanki and Chirala but also in Giddalur and Kandukur constituencies.

Balaram started his political career with the Congress Party when Indira Gandhi fielded him from Addanki in the 1978 elections after he had saved her from an attack in Ongole. .

Balaram joins the list of deflections from TDP to YSRCP ahead of civic body elections. Recently, former minister and two-time MLA Dokka Manikya Varaprasad Rao resigned from the primary membership of the TDP and joined the YSRCP in the presence of its president and Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy at his camp office.

One more TDP MLA to join YSRCP?

0

One more TDP MLA is all set to join the ruling YSRCP in a day or two.

TDP senior leader and Chirala MLA Karanam Balaram has reportedly took a decision to quit TDP and join YSRCP.

Balaram is learnt to have started ground work to join YSRCP and reportedly held ‘secret talks’ with Jagan’s relatives, who are minister Balineni Srinivas Reddy and TTD chairman YV Subba Reddy.

TDP MLA Vallabhaneni Vamshi already quit TDP and extending support to YSRCP.

Balaram’s exit will be a big shock to TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu personally and TDP in Andhra Pradesh.

Despite Naidu making all the efforts to keep his flock together, YSRCP chief and CM YS Jaganmohan Reddy has undertaken aggressive ‘operation akarsh’ to weaken TDP by engineering defection of MLAs and MLCs.

TDP MLC Dokka Manikya Varaprasad Rao also quit the party recently and joined YSRCP.

Similarly, few other TDP senior leaders like NA Rehman, Kadiri Babu Rao, Sathish Reddy etc have joined YSRCP over the past one week or so.

Balaram is reportedly upset at Chandrababu for admitting Gottipati Ravi in TDP and since then he has been staying away from party activities.

Balaram’s exit at a time when the state is going for local body polls this month will deal a big blow to Naidu and TDP.
