YCP MLA car stoned in Capital protests

The windshields of YCP MLA Pinnelli Ramakrishna Reddy’s car were broken during the protests of Amaravati farmers at Chinakakani in Guntur district. The farmers were holding blockade of the National Highway there at that time. They stopped the MLA Car and demanded his support for the cause of continuing Amaravati Capital City. Meanwhile, stones were pelted on the MLA car. Farmers leaders suspect that vandalism was the handiwork of the anti-Amaravati forces in order to discredit the agitation against three capitals decision of the Jaganmohan Reddy government.

The police prevented protesters coming from villages in surrounding areas. But still a large number of women and men stopped the highway traffic. The police couldn’t control the protesters. Traffic was stopped for over two hours. Vehicles were stranded for over three kilometres on either side.

The police made preventive arrest of former minister Lokesh. MLA Rama Naidu was also arrested. They were arrested in Kanaka Durga Varadhi in Vijayawada and taken towards Kankipadu. Lokesh argued that he was going to TDP Mangalagiri Office but the police didn’t accept his request.

TDP MPs placed under house arrest over Amaravati protest

Andhra Pradesh police on Tuesday placed opposition TDP MPs in Guntur and Vijayawada and other party leaders under house arrest to prevent them from joining ongoing protest over three capitals proposal.

Telugu Desam Party (TDP) MP from Guntur, Galla Jayadev was placed under house arrest in Guntur. Tension prevailed at the MP’s house as he questioned the police action and entered into an argument with officials.

The MP along with his followers tried to come out of the house but the police pushed them back and locked the main gate.

Jayadev, who is also the TDP parliamentary party leader, faulted with the police action. He said the protest for Amaravati will continue.

TDP MP from Vijayawada, Kesineni Nani was also placed under house arrest in Vijayawada to prevent him from participating in the protest along with farmers and others.

Political Joint Action Committee has called for blockade of the national highway on Tuesday to press for their demand that Amaravati be retained as the state capital.

In an attempt to foil the protest, TDP MPs and other leaders were kept under house arrest. Several others were arrested when they were on their way to the protest venue.

Farmers, who had given 33,000 acres of land for development of Amaravati as the state capital in 2015, have been protesting for nearly three weeks against Jagan Mohan Reddy-led government’s move to develop three state capitals.

The government proposes to shift Secretariat and CM’s office to Visakhapatnam to develop it as administrative capital while High Court is proposed to be moved to Kurnool.

Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy has proposed that State Assembly and Raj Bhavan, the official residence of state governor, will function from Amaravati.

Experts’ panel has made the same suggestion while Boston Consultancy Group (BCG), in its report, has backed the idea of three capitals.

The government has constituted a high-power committee comprising ministers and senior officials to study both the reports and submit a report in three weeks. YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) government said a final decision would be taken on the basis of high-power committee’s report.

Farmers in 29 villages of Amaravati said shifting of capital functions to Visakhapatnam and Kurnool will badly affect their interests.

Women donate jewellery at MLA deeksha: Amaravati

0

Former Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has warned that the Jaganmohan Reddy government would be washed out in the angry agitations of women for Amaravati Capital City. Many women arrived and donated their gold jewellery for Amaravati Protection Committee. They took out bangles, chains and rings on their bodies and handed over to Chandrababu Naidu. The incident triggered emotional scenes at the pro-Capital 24-hour Deeksha launched by Vijayawada East MLA Gadde Rammohan at Vedika Kalyana Mandapam in Vijayawada city.

Jewellery donations began ever since Chandrababu Naidu wife Bhubaneswari donated her platinum bangles to Amaravati farmers’ agitation a few days ago. YCP Ministers and MLAs mocked that platinum bangles showed that Amaravati stir was rich people’s and real estate investors’ agitation. The YCP comments angered Amaravati sympathisers among women in Twin Capital districts. They are coming out from homes and taking active part in protests. They are making their own contributions to agitation. Some people donated thousands and lakhs of rupees. All these funds are going to be used for engaging Supreme Court advocates to argue cases in favour of Amaravati capital. But YCP leaders continue to hurt Amaravati sentiment. Speaker Tammineni Sitaram said Vizag would become Capital and Chandrababu would go to jail.

Can Jagan do justice to Amaravati farmers?

0

Right now, the anti-Capital shifting agitation is limited to the farmers in 29 villages who sacrificed their lands for Amaravati Capital construction. The farmers, agricultural workers and their families all are protesting on the streets for continuation of their Capital there. But there are no big protests outside Amaravati even in the twin Capital districts of Guntur and Krishna. Even Vijayawada, which is a politically sensitive town in entire state, is more or less silent going by its agitational track record.

The entire focus is now on Amaravati farmers. The ruling YCP Ministers and MLAs are saying that justice would be done to these farmers. Their plots would be fully developed as per the agreements reached with them under global city project. Can the ruling party Ministers be trusted? Is it possible to do justice to farmers at this stage? Farmers’ leaders say that concrete buildings and roads came up in their lands already. Jagan Reddy has not even any plan before him to resolve the tricky issue of returning plots to farmers. Amid this, leaders of other regions are demanding Jagan now to do justice to farmers before risking Capital shifting to Visakhapatnam. Ex Mp TG Venkatesh says that they would not like Amaravati farmers to suffer in any manner. Ex MLA Vishnukumar Raju asks YCP Circar how Vizagites can be happy with Capital when thousands of farmers lose their livelihoods in Amaravati. It is posing a bigger challenge for YCP to do justice to farmers.

Police terror tactics to suppress Amaravati protests

0

All the 29 villages in Amaravati Capital City area are aggressively standing up against the police atrocities. All sections of villagers including women and children are protesting in the streets against YCP police excesses. They are refusing to stop their 3-weeks-old anti-Capital shifting agitation despite terror tactics being employed by the police. Now, the police are forcefully entering streets and houses in Velagapudi and other villages. The residents were also harassed with searches in bedrooms, bathrooms and everywhere. The police attack on women in Mandadam villages made the local people angrier. Women protesters suffered injuries. The police provoked them by using nasty and indecent language against the women residents. Some women protesters lost their jewellery when the police attacker them inside the police van.

National Women’s Rights Commission Chairperson Rekha Sharma has promised to order a probe into the police atrocities on women protesters in Amaravati. The anti-Capital shifting protesters are demanding resignation of CM Jaganmohan Reddy asking him to face the elections once again. The Amaravati farmers are also demanding the imposition of the President’s Rule in AP as CM Jagan Reddy is presiding a reign of terror in the state. Jagan Reddy and YCP leaders are oppressing the people only to increase their wealth and hide their failures.

BCG supports Jagan’s decentralisation: Capital collusion

1

As expected, the report of the US-based Boston Consultants Group (BCG) came out in favor of CM Jaganmohan Reddy’s move to establish ‘Three Capital Cities’ in the three regions of AP. The BCG team submitted its report to the CM at his Tadepalli Camp Office. Just like GN Rao Committee, the BCG recommendations also were also aimed to suit the requirements of CM Jagan Reddy’s mission to shift Capital out of Amaravati. The BCG has not directly recommended Vizag as the better location for Executive Capital but it has described Amaravati as a financially unviable place.

The BCG has totally disapproved the previous Chandrababu Naidu Regime’s plan to spend Rs 1 lakh Cr on Amaravati Global City construction. This will not bring back any revenue. The BCG agreed with CM’s view that with just 10 per cent funds, a full-fledged Capital City infrastructure can be developed in some other already developed city.

Interestingly, the BCG team recommended development of an education hub in Krishna district. The report suggested division of Andhra Pradesh into six regions for focused development of industrial, agricultural and educational sectors. Interestingly, GN Rao committee themselves briefed the media on their report which triggered criticism. This time, BCG team did not brief the media but it was done by an IAS officer.

Want good of all, says Jagan amid Amaravati protests

0

As protests by Amaravati farmers intensified over the proposal for three capitals for Andhra Pradesh, Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy on Friday said that the rationale behind every decision is the welfare of all.

He said that the government takes decisions for the good of all sections of people and all regions of the state.

Jagan, as the Chief Minister is popularly known, was speaking at Eluru in West Godavari district after launch of Arogyasri, a healthcare scheme.

“From village to state administration, all are equal. Fruits of development and governance should reach all sections of people. We will correct the wrong decisions made in the past,” he said.

Jagan said he would use his position of the chief minister to make sure that people live in harmony and fruits of development reach all.

His remarks came amid continuing protests by farmers in Amaravati over the three capital proposal. Farmers, who gave 33,000 acres of land for development of Amaravati as the state capital in 2015, are demanding that the capital be retained in Amaravati.

Jagan has mooted the idea of developing Visakhapatnam as administrative capital and Kurnool as judicial capital. According to this proposal, only Assembly and Raj Bhavan will function in Amaravati.

Experts committee constituted by the state government has also made the same recommendation for decentralised development.

The government earlier this week set up a 16-member high-power committee to analyse the report of experts’ panel and take a final decision.

The farmers, who have been protesting for more than two weeks, say that shifting Secretariat and Chief Minister’s office to Visakhapatnam and High Court to Kurnool will spell doom for them.

Amaravati was the brainchild of Jagan’s predecessor N. Chandrababu Naidu, who had plans to build it as a world-class city.

YSR Congress Party (YSRCP), which came to power in May last year, alleged that the previous Telugu Desam Party (TDP) government resorted to insider trading and that it wanted to develop capital at Amaravati to benefit people of Kamma community, from which Naidu comes.

The TDP chief, however, has rubbished the allegations.

Amaravati farmers to follow TS model “Sakala Janula Samme” to save capital!

Remember, Telangana’s Sakala Janula Samme in 2011. It was a 42-day long strike underataken by all sections in Telangana demanding statehood for Telangana, which brought pressure on then UPA government to accept bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh. It played a key role in UPA government initiating the process of formation of Telangana State.

Now, the farmers in Amaravathi region have decided to adopt the same model to save their capital from shifting to Vizag by YS Jaganmohan Reddy government.

Farmers in Amaravathi region have decided to observe “Sakala Janula Samme’ from Friday to bring pressure on Jagan not to shift the capital from Amaravthi and continue Amaravathi as capital city as it is.

As this will be an indefinite strike, essential services have been exempted from the strike with an intention of not to cause inconvenience to people availing emergency services like medical and health, milk supply etc.

Bandh will be observed in all the 29 villages of the Amaravathi Capital region.

TDP grabbed 4,000 acres in Amaravati: YCP MLAs

0

The ruling YCP is intensifying its aggressive attacks on the pro-Amaravati Capital agitation. YCP MLAs came out with a video presentation on insider trading. They accused TDP MLAs, ex MLAs and ex Ministers of grabbing nearly 4,000 acres at cheaper rates from the farmers just before the Amaravati announcement. As before, the list of insider trading beneficiaries included Nara Lokesh, his followers, P Narayana, Prathipati Pulla Rao, Yanamala Ramakrishnudu relatives, etc. Since morning, the YCP Ministers and MLAs got busy attacking TDP, Jana Sena and farmers one after another. The ruling party leaders are vaguely making allegations but not providing documentary proofs against TDP leaders.

Hitting back at the YCP leaders, TDP launched a counter offensive. Ex MLA Bonda Umamaheswara Rao asked whether the YCP has no shame in repeating the same old allegations again and again. Why can’t Jagan Reddy daringly take action and file cases against the TDP leaders? Bonda Uma showed documents of where Amaravati region MLAs Alla Ramakrishna Reddy and Vundavalli Sridevi had bought lands in Capital City. Were they also part of the TDP insider trading? Bonda Uma also fired at YCP MLAs for criticising Jana Senani. Yes, Pawan is a Naidu by caste and YCP will bite the dust for making personal comments against Pawan, Bonda warned rivals.

Pawan reading script given by Naidu: Botsa on Capital

0

Municipal Minister Botsa Satyanarayana is trying to speak with some clarity on Amaravati shifting these days. He says that both Jana Senani Pawan Kalyan and the Capital City farmers are innocently following the script given by former CM Chandrababu Naidu. They have no idea of their own. They are not listening to YCP Ministers but continuing their agitation just because Naidu is asking them to do so. No doubt, Pawan’s one day visit to Amaravati has triggered widespread anti-Jagan reactions on social media. Pawan took this stand despite Jana Sena is a little stronger in North Coastal areas. This is why Botsa is branding Pawan as anti-Vizag. At the same time, the Minister is trying to project Amaravati farmers’ protests as a political agitation of TDP.

In the last two days, protests thoroughly shook up Capital villages because of Pawan and Naidu visits. Now, Botsa advises Naidu and his wife Bhuvaneswari to return their lands back to farmers rather than donating small things like bangles. Naidu family is being accused of doing insider trading to buy Capital farmers’ lands at cheaper rates prior to Capital announcement. Botsa asked farmers and Pawan not to remain in the trap of TDP boss. It was because of Naidu that AP has gone back by 25 years. Why did not Naidu complete Capital construction? Botsa blamed Naidu for committing irregularities which eventually led to incomplete Capital buildings even after five years.

Naidu’s wife donates bangles for Amaravati farmers’ protest

0

Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s wife N. Bhuvaneswari on Wednesday contributed her gold bangles for the ongoing movement by farmers to demand continuation of Amaravati as the capital.

Naidu, who is the President of Telugu Desam Party (TDP), asked farmers to auction the bangles to raise money for their protest programmes.

Bhuvaneswari, daughter of legendary actor, TDP founder and former Chief Minister N. T. Rama Rao, joined her husband in visiting Amaravati villages to meet protesting farmers and express solidarity with them.

Bhuvaneswari, a businesswoman, made the rare appearance at the protest against the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) government’s three-capital proposal.

Bhuvaneswari, who heads Heritage Foods, a family owned dairy company, usually accompanies Naidu to temples or functions.

“We know the sacrifices you all had made by parting with your cultivable lands for the capital, hoping for a great future. Our family is with you in your fight against shifting the capital out of this place,” she told protestors at Errabalem village.

The couple choose the New Year day to visit Amaravati, the brainchild of Naidu. As a show of solidarity with agitating farmers, the TDP chief and the party stayed away from New Year celebrations.

For the 15th day, farmers in all 29 villages of Amaravati region continued their protest against Chief Minister Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s proposal to shift the Secretariat and Chief Minister’s office to Visakhapatnam and the High Court to Kurnool.

Naidu came down heavily on Jaganmohan Reddy and wanted to know why he went back on his word, as the then Leader of Opposition, that he fully supports Amaravati as the state capital.

The Leader of Opposition asked farmers to continue their protest with courage and remarked that Jagan will have to flee to Pulivendula (Jagan’s home town).

Naidu said Jagan was so scared of travelling from his residence to Secretariat through Amaravati villages that his convoy passes only after rehearsal by a dummy convoy. “Soon, the day will come when he will have to fence his house,” he said.

Amaravati farmers write to President, seek mercy killing

0

Distressed over Andhra Pradesh government’s three-capital move, farmers of Amaravati on Tuesday wrote a letter to President of India Ramnath Kovind, seeking ‘mercy killing’.

The farmers, who have been protesting for last two weeks, wrote to the President that they were betrayed on the issue of state capital and if justice can’t be ensured to them they be allowed to kill themselves.

They said Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s decision to have three state capital has thrown them on to the roads.

“There is nobody to hear our voice and police are even booking attempt to murder cases against us,” they wrote.

The farmers alleged that after coming to power Jagan Mohan Reddy changed his stand on the state capital. They said the decision of YSR Congress Party government has put a question mark on the future of their children.

They said though they had been staging protest for 14 days, no one was bothered about their plight. They also complained that those questioning YSRCP leaders were being targeted.

Farmers of 29 villages, who had given 33,000 acres of land for building state capital in Amaravati in 2015, have been staging protests ever since Jagan Mohan Reddy mooted the idea of three capitals.

An experts’ committee recommended to the government to develop Visakhapatnam as administrative capital and Kurnool as judicial capital while keeping only Assembly and Raj Bhavan in Amaravati.

The government on Sunday set up a high-power committee to study the report of experts’ panel and submit a report in three weeks. It said a final decision on decentralized development of the state would be taken after receipt of the report.

Farmers were never jailed like Jagan Reddy: Pawan

0

During his whirlwind tour in Amaravati, Jana Sena founder Pawan Kalyan is making sensational comments against CM Jaganmohan Reddy. Why is the YCP government harassing people with its negative and vindictive policies? Pawan said that it is very, very sad now that a leader who came to power promising to take care of all as an elder son now kicked them all out of the house. Senani expressed his full sympathies to the suffering families in Capital villages. What wrongs have they committed? Is it a crime to sacrifice their ancestral lands for Amaravati? Pawan commented that these Capital farmers never formed suitcase companies to make easy money like YCP leaders. He said further that the innocent farmers never went to jail for 16 months like Number 1 Jaganmohan Reddy and Number 2 Vijayasai Reddy.

Meanwhile, YCP MLA Jogi Ramesh countered Pawan comments with his party’s typically bitter personal comments. The MLA says that it is Pawan who has suffered defeat like a mad Tughlaq in two Assembly segments in 2019 elections because of his negative attitude. He said that the YCP leaders do not know how to change colours and wives frequently like Pawan Kalyan is doing. Jogi Ramesh warned the Senani against making needless comments against the government when Amaravati Capital shifting has not been taken at all.

Jagan’s broken promises ruined Amaravati farmers?

1

The Amaravati farmers’ protests are continuing for the 14th day today but there seems to be no hope of immediate relief from any side. The farmers are fast losing patience and threatening to take their agitation to any lengths against CM Jaganmohan Reddy’s Capital shifting plans. The Amaravati area voters are recalling how they were bluffed and cheated by the broken promises of CM Jagan Reddy. The farmers are saying that they wouldn’t have sacrificed their lands if Jagan Reddy did not speak naked lies on his support to Amaravati construction. Now, very cruelly, the YCP leaders are speaking as if the farmers gave lands out of their greed for quick and big money from high real estate values.

The farmers told Jana Senani Pawan Kalyan how Jaganmohan Reddy bluffed them into believing that the YCP government, if elected, would develop Amaravati better than the TDP. During his Padayatra also, Jagan made the local farmers believe in his support to Amaravati Capital. When Jagan held his electioneering in Capital villages, all YCP leaders spoke of continuing Capital City in Amaravati. The women voters recall how Vijayamma hugged and spoke sweetly with them to ask for One Chance to her son but she is not bothering about their problems now. The farmers are swearing to sacrifice their lives, if required, for the cause of fighting against Jagan Reddy’s Capital shifting plans. Nobody will believe any politician in future going by how Jagan Reddy is violating his own pro-Amaravati statement made in the Assembly as the Opposition leader during Chandrababu Regime.

Packages to silence Amaravati farmers: Capital offer

0

The Jaganmohan Reddy government is going all out to shift Capital City regardless of the all-round opposition. It has decided not to hold any negotiations with the farmers of 29 villages who sacrificed their ancestral lands for Amaravati global city construction. The ruling party leaders think that the agitating farmers are not in a mood for accepting anything less than continuation of Amaravati Capital. The farmers’ agitation has raised political temperatures. The TDP, BJP and Jana Sena parties are referring to farmers’ protests as the main basis of their strong opposition to Three Capitals plan.

Against these odds, CM Jagan Reddy is now telling his party leaders that huge packages will be offered to the Capital farmers in order to silence all opposition to his Vizag Capital plan. Indications are that the Capital shifting announcement is sure to be made in the next Cabinet meeting to be held on High Power Committee recommendations. Jagan Circar is trying to counter rivals criticism in the name of packages to farmers. These packages are usually offered during land acquisition for setting up new industries. But the question is whether these packages will match with the high market values of Amaravati lands prevailing prior to Jagan becoming CM. But then there are many complications like sale and offer of these lands as dowry. It would also take lots of money to bring these lands back into cultivation. If suitable packages are to be offered, it may take several thousands of crores. More trouble surely awaits Jagan Circar on this count.

Andhra constitutes high-power committee on capital issue

0

The Andhra Pradesh government has constituted a high-power committee to examine the recommendations of the expert committee, which suggested three capital formula for the decentralised development of the state.

Two days after the state cabinet decided to form the high-power committee, the government on Sunday issued orders constituting a 16-member panel, comprising ministers and top officials.

Chief Secretary Nilam Sawhney, who will be the convenor of the high-power committee, issued the orders to this effect.

The panel will submit its report in three weeks. The members include 11 ministers and five officials, including Director General of Police and Principal Advisor to Chief Minister.

According to the Government Order (GO), high-power committee may seek the advice of the Advocate General.

It will also take into account the recommendations of the Boston Consultancy Group (BCG) while finalising the strategy and the way forward.

After six-member expert committee submitted its report on December 20, the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) government roped in the BCG to study the option available for the development of the capital city.

the BCG is likely to submit its report in the first week of January.

The state cabinet on Friday deferred a final decision on state capital and decided to constitute a high-power committee to study the reports of both the expert committee and the BCG.

It was in September that Jagan Mohan Reddy-led government had constituted a six-member expert committee on the concept of decentralised development and work out a strategy on the way forward, keeping in view various provisions of the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act.

The panel, comprising urban planning experts, suggested that three capital cities be developed by shifting some capital function from Amaravati to Visakhapatnam and Kurnool. It mooted Visakhapatnam as administrative capital and Kurnool as the judicial capital while Amaravti can house State Assembly and Raj Bhavan.

The report triggered unrest among farmers in 29 villages of Amaravati, who had given 33,000 acres of land in 2015 for development of the state capital. The farmers are staging daily protests, demanding the government to drop three-capital proposal and develop the capital in Amaravati as planned by the previous Telugu Desam Party (TDP) government.

The farmers have also approached the High Court, challenging the government’s proposed move.

0

Jagan Amaravati plan to punish one caste? RK

0

The insider information from the ruling YCP leaders is surprising even the bitter critics of CM Jagan Reddy. The latest news is that the CM has deliberately decided to shift Capital just for the sake of his party’s votebank interests amid other things. Jagan does not want to spend thousands of crores on Amaravati as it would benefit only one particular caste but not his party. These caste people in Guntur and Krishna districts will not vote for the YCP even if it develops Capital. Andhra Jyothi Managing Director Radha Krishna talks about these issues in his latest Kothapaluku column. RK says that Jagan Reddy has told his close leaders that it would be a mere waste of time and energy to continue in Amaravati without any future benefits.

Whereas, Jagan Reddy considers North Coastal as a better proposition. The party could be further strengthened there. The people will also give greater support if Vizag is made Capital. RK writes that even the people in Nellore district are expressing impatience against the policies of YCP. The party has won 10 out of 10 assembly segments in the district in 2019 election. But, the Nellore Pedda Reddys are now saying that they should suffer like this because they have give total majority to Jagan Reddy very blindly. The Rayalaseema people are also not happy. RK says that they voted to give One Chance to YSR son but did not think Jagan would give such problems to all.

Amaravati protests to continue: Will adamant Jagan change?

0

The farmers in Amaravati Capital villages are still seething with anger and continuing their protests on 11th day. They are disappointed that the Jagan Reddy Cabinet did not take reject the recommendations of the GN Rao Committee on Capital shifting. Moreover, there are increasing fears that CM Jaganmohan Reddy will be implementing his controversial ‘Three Capitals’ plan in January-end. The ruling Ministers are making stronger indications towards this end. Amid these concerns, the farmers are continuing their dharna camps in Tulluru, Mandadam and other villages. A good number of women are turning up and freely expressing their concerns at the protest programmes. Their main concern is that they will have nothing to pass on to their next generation if the government returns uncultivable lands back to them.

The police are trying hard to prevent dharnas in villages but residents are not relenting. Farmers and women are more aggressive than before. They are raising slogans demanding ‘Save Amaravati’ and ‘Save AP’. CPI leader K. Narayana, former minister Devineni Umamaheswara Rao and scores of opposition leaders have expressed their solidarity. The Amaravati Protection Committee and local villagers have decided to continue the protests till there is a clear statement from none other than Jagan Reddy withdrawing Capital shifting plans.

YSRCP activists behind attack on media in Amaravathi?

0

Farmers in Amaravathi region have been protesting against AP CM YS Jagan’s move to set up three capitals for AP for the past ten days.

The media is giving good coverage to the protests and rallies undertaken by the farmers.

The wide media coverage on Amaravathi farmers protests in local media has attracted national media too.

The national media too is prominently covering the Amaravathi protests

This naturally angered YSRCP bosses, who does not want media to give prominent coverage to Amaravathi protests.

The same was conveyed to YSRCP activists, who followed the directions of their bosses and tried to prevent media coverage of Amaravathi protests today (Friday).

When the cabinet meeting was underway to take a call on shifting capital today in Amaravathi, the farmers in the region intensified protests demanding government not to shift the capital.

The media personnel visited the protesting spots to give live coverage of protests on TV channels.

At this juncture, journalists were attacked indiscriminately.

Representatives of four electronic media channels, including one woman journalist, were attacked in which the journalists sustained serious injuries.

Journalists belonging to TV9, Maha TV, I News and NTV were about to take record the visuals and sound bytes of the protestors when they were suddenly accosted by a group of people, who claimed to be farmers, attacked them, causing serious injuries to them.

However, the inquiries by farmers revealed that it was YSRCP activists who attacked media reporters under the guise of farmers with a malafide intention to distance media from Amarvathi farmers.

With this, the journalists packed up and headed towards Velagapudi where they were again subjected another attack.

This confirmed that it was YSRCP activists who attacked media and not farmers as no farmers headed to Velagapudi to protest.

However, the local YSRCP leaders tried to project that thee farmers resorted to the attack angry over the TV channels highlighting the ruling party representatives’ contention that the ongoing agitation was being orchestrated by the TDP with the help of paid artistes.
