CBN condemns brutal attacks of YSRCP

1

Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh chief minister and TDP supremo N Chandrababu Naidu has condemned the attacks by YSRCP cadres, while expressing concerns over the physical assault on AP Assembly Speaker Kodela Sivaprasada Rao and killing another leader. CBN has termed these activities as the barbaric attitude of the YSRCP.

“YS Jaganmohan Reddy has deployed rowdy gangs across the state to create panic among public. YSRCP goons killed a TDP leader by axing him to death. In an another incident, YSRCP cadres manhandled the State Assembly Speaker Kodela at a polling station. I call upon all parties, who practice democratic principles to condemn such barbaric acts of YSRCP, which resorted to attack at several places including Allagadda, Chirala, Raptadu, Atmakuru, Punganuru, etc. I ask people to be cautious about political parties engaged in undemocratic values,” said Chandrababu Naidu.

Naidu said that 50 per cent polling was recorded by 3pm as voters in large numbers started going to polling booths from morning 6:30 onwards.

“If EVMs were functional properly, the voting percentage would have been much better. I ask those voters, who returned without voting owing to technical glitches of EVMs, to return back to cast your votes. Make it sure that all the voters should reach polling booths before 6pm so that they can exercise their votes. I request all the voters to dedicate this one day for protecting democracy. I’ll work for your welfare for next five years. Don’t let our state slip into hands of goons. Your vote will decide your future and next generations as well,” maintained Naidu.

CBN, family members cast votes in Amaravati

0

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) President N. Chandrababu Naidu along with his family members cast his vote in the state capital region Amaravati on Thursday in the ongoing Lok Sabha polls.

Naidu, his wife N. Bhuvaneswari, son N. Lokesh and daughter-in-law N. Brahmani exercised their franchise at a polling booth in Undavalli in Mangalagiri Assembly constituency in Guntur district.

After coming out of the polling booth, they showed their inked fingers to the media persons.

Naidu and Lokesh said every voter should exercise his democratic right.

“It is the duty of every citizen to participate in the democratic process by casting his vote,” said Naidu.

Lokesh, who is making his electoral debut, is the party candidate from Mangalagiri while Naidu is seeking re-election from Kuppam in his native Chittoor district.

This is the first time that Naidu and his family members cast their votes in the new state of Andhra Pradesh. In 2014 elections, they had voted in Hyderabad, then capital of undivided Andhra Pradesh.

A couple of months after the 2014 polls, the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh was formalised with the creation of Telangana state with Hyderabad as its capital.

Chandrababu Naidu unhappy over non-functioning of EVMs

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) President N. Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday expressed his unhappiness over Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) not functioning at several polling booths.

Naidu told the media here that polling was delayed at several places as the EVMs were not functioning. He said an EVM was not working where Chief Electoral Officer Gopal Krishna Dwivedi went to cast his vote.

Polling was underway in the state for 175-member Assembly and 25 Lok Sabha seats.

Naidu said at least now the Election Commission should review its stand on EVMs.

“We have long been saying that there is scope for technical problems and manipulation in EVMs. Even technologically advanced countries are using ballot papers,” the TDP chief said.

He said 22 political parties in the country demanded that at least the Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) slips be counted. He did not agree with the Election Commission that counting of all VVPAT slips will take six days.

The Supreme Court on Monday directed the EC to increase the random matching of VVPAT slips with EVMs to five polling booths per assembly segment, from one at present. The court, however, did not agree to the demand by the parties for matching at least 50 percent of VVPAT slips with EVMs.

Naidu said they were planning to file a review petition for counting of at least 25 per cent of VVPAT slips.

Pic Talk: Chandrababu spending time with grandson after hectic campaign

0

After the hectic schedule with the election campaigning, TDP chief Nara Chandrababu Naidu spent time with his grandson Devaansh. The picture of Chandrababu Naidu playing with his grandson can be seen. With only a few hours for the polling, it is a nerve-wracking time for all the political parties.

Chandrababu everywhere – Where is Jagan?

0

The polling is going to begin in the next 15 to 16 hours in AP. Election campaign should not be held now as per poll code. All the star campaigners fell silent since 6 pm on April 9. Jaganmohan Reddy, Pawan Kalyan, KA Paul and all other leaders are nowhere to be seen. But suddenly CM Chandrababu Naidu appeared at the office of AP Chief Electoral Officer Gopala Krishna Dwivedi at AP Secretariat in Amaravati capital city.

It was for the first time that a CM went to protest personally to CEO office where he also sat in dharna. Naturally, all the media attention was there on Naidu’s flash protest against alleged excesses by ECI. Naidu took maximum advantage out of this by telling the people through the media how Modi, Jagan and KCR are making blatant misuse of power. He levelled allegations against Modi saying that the PM is destroying Indian democracy.

Naidu asked CEO how the Kadapa SP could be transferred when he was in the midst of investigating the sensational political murder there. He said the public will react strongly against these excesses and this would not crush but boost the morale of TDP to continue its struggle. While Naidu reached out to AP voters in the crucial hours before polling, Jagan is nowhere to be seen.

If voted to power, YS Jagan will shift capital city from Amaravati, cautions CBN

0

Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh chief minister and TDP supremo N Chandrababu Naidu has cautioned voters that YS Jaganmohan Reddy, if voted to power, will shift capital city from Amaravati. The day is not far off that people from all other parts will relocate to Tatikonda, a constituency in the Amaravati capital region, forecasts Naidu.

“Tatikonda is capital city constituency and will have tremendous development here and this will attract people from other parts of the state to settle here for employment and business opportunities. Already, Tatikonda Assembly constituency is witnessing soaring prices. If TDP is voted back again, then the development will gallop like anything. If YSRCP is voted to power, then YS Jaganmohan Reddy will shift capital city from Amaravati region and this will hammer down the prices of land. YS Jaganmohan Reddy in his election campaigning kept on saying that he would change the capital city,” said CBN, while addressing at an election campaigning meeting in Tatikonda constituency in Guntur district on Tuesday.

If TDP is voted to power for the second term, Amaravati will prosper further and surpass Hyderabad in all aspects, said CBN.

“That’s why Telangana chief minister K Chandrashekhar Rao has joined hands with YS Jaganmohan Reddy. Fearing the defeat of YSRCP, KCR has announced his support to AP on special category status. If KCR is really supporting AP for special category status, why he has filed so many cases against Polavaram Project. Farmers are voluntarily coming forward to hand over lands for the capital city? On the other hand, YSRCP is blaming the TDP government by making allegations of insider trading. I’ll assure the Andhraites that Amaravati will be one of the five best global cities,” maintained CBN.

Will women give a tsunami victory to Chandrababu?

0

Is it now going to be one-sided? Is there any chance for the YCP to give a good fight? What will be the transfer of women vote bank to the advantage of TDP? What will be the impact of the 1 crore DWCRA women beneficiaries of Rs 20,000 Pasupu Kumkuma benefit to each of them? Will these women groups hand over a tsunami-like victory for Chandrababu?

The general public and political circles are are very tense to answer such conflicting questions now. It’s believed that the present mood of voters will not change much on the polling day on April 11. There’s no scope for major issues to break the mood and change the voters’ preferences in the next one and half days. Then what’s the exact mood prevailing in different sections at this moment:

– TDP enjoys support from its traditional caste groups plus women’s groups plus neutral voters. This is due to welfare, development and sentiment.
– YCP gets traditional support from two castes but loses part of dalit vote to TDP and smaller fragments of it to Jana Sena, Bahujan Samaj Party and Praja Rajyam Party.
– Jana Sena has not emerged to cause multi-lateral contests in majority parts.
– KA Paul is mocked at as a comedy piece but he effectively conveyed what he wanted to convey to the people.

Chandrababu is future Indian Prime Minister, says Deve Gowda

0

Former prime minister H.D. Deve Gowda and Chandrababu Naidu addressed an election meeting of the Telugu Desam Party held at Tiruvuru town in Krishna district. Mr. Deve Gowda began his speech by addressing Chandrababu Naidu as the future Indian Prime Minister. He said that Chandrababu had the capability to unite all the regional parties across the country against PM Narendra Modi for the cause of protecting democracy.

He said that the BJP is responsible for IT, CBI and ED raids on its rival leaders. The Modi government at the Centre is demolishing all the constitutional and national institutions in the country. Deve Gowda accused Modi of taking the country backwards and Modi failed to create crores of jobs to youth as per his promise in 2014 election.

Mr. Chandrababu Naidu did ‘padaabhivandanam’ (reverential feet touching) to Mr. Deve Gowda as a mark of respect to the experienced and seasoned leader on behalf of the people of the state. He said that Mr. Deve Gowda extended his full support to special status to AP.

Naidu deplored that PM Modi is taking revenge against AP and doing everything possible to crush AP in all respects. He took strong objection to YCP President YS Jaganmohan Reddy tying up with TRS leader K Chandrasekhara Rao who is hurting AP at every step.

Why is Jagan avoiding counter replies on Amaravati capital?

1

Kodi Kathi Jaganmohan Reddy should explain right now what are his plans for the Amaravati capital city. Will he keep it or is he going to shift the capital to another place? Why is the YCP manifesto silent on this all important issue? CM Chandrababu Naidu is shooting these questions endlessly in the last few days of election campaign.

Obviously, Naidu is taking advantage out of this and he is trying to corner Jagan on the capital issue. Even then no YCP leader is coming forward to give clarity of their party stand whether they will commit themselves to Amaravati or not. The YCP leaders are forgetting the fact that Amaravati capital issue will have direct impact on the twin districts of Guntur and Krishna. These two have 33 assembly segments.

Now seeing the YCP’s unclear stand, the TDP has decided to take maximum electoral advantage out of this by making Amaravati one of the poll issues just a few days before the polling day.

NTR’s dynasty remains at the centrestage of Andhra politics (DYNASTY POLITICS)

When it comes to political dynasties in the country, few can match the charisma and the melodrama associated with Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao’s personality.

Even 23 years after his death, the legacy of the founder of Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister dominates the political scene of in one way or the other.

As Andhra Pradesh gearing up for April 11 simultaneous elections to the state Assembly and the Lok Sabha, NTR’s name, portraits and statues remain an integral part of the TDP’s campaign led by his son-in-law N. Chandrababu Naidu.

This election is witnessing the entry og NTR’s third generation into electoral politics with Naidu fielding his son Nara Lokesh as his political successor.

NTR’s family, however, is no longer confined to TDP but is spread across the political spectrum.

NTR, as the popular actor was popularly known, took a plunge into politics in the early 1980s to end the monopoly of the Congress party and altered the political landscape of the state forever.

The matinee idol, who enjoyed the status of a demigod among masses, stormed to power within nine months after floating TDP on the slogan of Telugu self-respect.

With his pro-poor image and populist schemes like Rs.2 a kg rice, NTR created a niche for himself in politics.

After five years of Congress rule in between, NTR returned to power with a landslide majority in 1994. Her second marriage with Lakshmi Parvathi, however, created a rift in the family.

In August 1995, NTR’s son-in-law Chandrababu Naidu led a revolt, citing Lakshmi’s growing interference in the government and party affairs. Backed by NTR’s sons and daughters, Naidu became the Chief Minister.

A few months later, NTR died of cardiac arrest at the age of 72. He had eight sons and four daughters from his first wife Basvatarakam, who had died of cancer in 1985. However, it was Chandrababu Naidu who carried NTR’s political legacy forward.

Lakshmi initially claimed NTR’s political legacy but found no public support and went into political oblivion. She is currently with YSRCP. Though politically not active, she is praying for Naidu’s defeat.

Currently, a son and a daughter of NTR, two son-in-laws including Naidu and a grandson are active in politics, albeit in different politics parties.

NTR floated TDP on anti-Congress plank but his daughter D. Purandeswari and her husband D. Venkateswara Rao joined the Congress in 2004. Purandeswari, who was elected to Lok Sabha twice on Congress ticket and even became a minister in UPA government, switched loyalty to BJP in 2014.

She is now contesting from Visakhapatnam Lok Sabha constituency. Her husband, however, preferred YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) and is contesting for Andhra Pradesh Assembly from Parchur.

NTR’s son and popular actor N. Balakrishna is seeking re-election from Hindupur constituency on TDP ticket. He is also father-in-law of Naidu’s son Lokesh, who is contesting for Assembly from Mangalagiri. Balakrishna’s second son-in-law M. Bharat is TDP candidate from Visakhapatnam parliamentary constituency, facing Purandeswari.

Naidu, who had been grooming his son as his political successor for last few years, was facing some resistance from another brother-in-law and actor N. Harikrishna, who died in a road accident last year.

Harikrishna was keen to see his son Junior NTR taking over the TDP mantle. Named after his grandfather and popularly known as Junior NTR, he is one of the top actors of Telugu film industry.

It is also interesting to note that no member of NTR’s extended family is into active politics in Telangana, which came into being with bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh in 2014.

Chandrababu Naidu fielded Harikrishnas daughter and Junior NTR’s half-sister N. Suhasini from Kukatpally Assembly constituency in Hyderabad in the recent Telangana Assembly elections but she lost the battle to the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) candidate.

Kodi Kathi Party – Naidu’s nonstop attack on Jagan

0

Rival parties are resorting to nonstop mutual allegations with the polling day a few days away. CM Chandrababu Naidu is addressing a larger number of election meetings than any other contender in the state. He devotes more time for listing out his government’s achievements but his main attack is on YCP leader Jaganmohan Reddy. At the same time, Naidu is not using the name YSR Congress Party in any of his speeches nowadays.

Naidu is using ‘Kodi Kathi Party’ only to refer to the YCP. CM is making a mocking mention of how Jaganmohan Reddy has fooled himself by trying to take advantage of the Vizag airport attack case. YCP tried to blame and corner the TDP by taking political advantage of the airport attack but eventually it turned out to be an attack by Jagan’s own fan. Jagan exposed himself by even complaining to the President about the Kodi Kathi attack at that time.

Because of YCP’s continued references to the Vizag incident, the Kodi Kathi incident remained in public memory. This has become as an advantage for Naidu and TDP leaders to call YCP as Kodi Kathi Party. What more, Naidu is even asking voters not to support Kodi Kathi which indirectly refers to Jaganmohan Reddy.

Modi is a threat to Indian democracy, says Naidu

0

TDP National President and CM N Chandrababu Naidu launched a scathing attack on PM Modi in the wake of LK Advani’s remarks. Naidu said that Advani has just correctly put it in a subtle manner how Modi has been crippling not only the democratic institutions in the country but also his own Bharatiya Janata Party. After Modi took over, the BJP is no longer its former self that followed moral, ethical and democratic principles of tolerance and brotherhood.

Chandrababu has also tweeted in response to Advani’s remarks. Advani has said it is never the BJP’s tradition to treat opposition party leaders as anti-nationals. Naidu said that under Modi’s leadership, the BJP has attacked at the very roots of Indian democracy. It is evident from how opposition parties’ leaders are being targetted by grossly misusing national institutions like the Central Bureau of Investigation, the Enforcement Directorate, the Income Tax department and so on.

In a way, anti-Modi sentiment is being roused in an indirect manner by TDP boss. This is how Naidu is getting wider attention from the voters who are unhappy over the 2014 AP state separation.

KCR insulted and chased away Andhras?

0

The Andhra sentiment is appealing greatly to the AP voters like never before. Is it running like an under current in the April 11 election? Probably this is the reason why TDP boss Chandrababu Naidu is making a repeated mention of how the Andhras were and are badly treated during and after the state separation. His unsparing attack on KCR is rousing the feelings of audiences at election meetings.

Naidu recalls how Andhras gave their sweat and blood by working hard for construction of modern Hyderabad for over 60 years. But KCR insults and says that the Andhras are living in Hyderabad without shame. Who will bear such humiliation and live there bearing such insults? KCR called us demons, useless dogs and so many other things, says Naidu. KCR had also made an attack on the cultural heritage of Andhras by saying their biryani is like ‘dung biryani’.

Naidu tells voters that the Telangana government has to give Rs. 1 lakh crore to AP towards its share of property. This was part of the promises made at the time of the state separation. But KCR has not given a single rupee till now. Moreover, he is harassing AP state by conspiring with Modi and Jagan, says Naidu.

Naidu lists out reasons why Jagan is unfit for ‘One Chance’

YCP star campaigners are all making their ultimate slogan – ‘One Chance’ for Jagan. The actual strategy behind the slogan is known only to the YCP campaign managers. YS Vijayamma is also appealing to the voters in a rather pleading tone to give Once Chance to her son. So is the case with Sharmila, sister of Jagan. Just when this novel slogan of YCP is getting voters’ attention, TDP gave a total blow to the YCP plans.

CM Chandrababu Naidu is now making certain mention of this ‘One Chance’ slogan in his election speeches and road shows in the segments. ‘Tell me brothers, why should you give once chance to a leader who is involved in 31 cases? Do we commit suicide just to test what it will be one time?’ Naidu is asking the voters.

There is a whole list of reasons and questions being posed by Chandrababu. Will we ever touch a live electric wire even for the sake of testing it one time? Are we insensible to climb a hill and throw ourselves from there for the sake of that one time? Chandrababu asserted that there is no comparison between him and Jagan as the latter has a very bad track record. Naidu is asking the voters whether anybody will drown in the ocean once to give Once Chance to Jagan?

Naidu hits back at Modi on Polavaram funding

0

Hyderabad: Finding fault with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s baseless allegations against the TDP government, Andhra Pradesh chief minister and TDP supremo N Chandrababu Naidu said that the BJP-led NDA government has sanctioned only Rs7,000crore as against the total cost of Rs58,000-cr Polavaram project. How can a person with a stature of Prime Ministership position make baseless allegations against me, questions Naidu.

Addressing a public meeting at Madanapalli, Chittoor district, Naidu said: “Prime Minister Narendra Modi never visited Polavaram project and didn’t attend any programme at the project. The Polavaram project is being implemented at an investment of Rs58,000 crore, but the Centre so far sanctioned a mere Rs7,000 crore. The central government has announced an award to me for completing the Polavaram project on a warfoot basis. The Centre has recognized Polavaram irrigation scheme as fastest completing project in the country. Forgetting about this, Prime Minister Modi is criticizing me for Polavaram project. How shameful it’s on his part? Anyway, the TDP government is committed on completing irrigation projects in the State. We assure you water from Polavaram project on gravity basis in July.”

Naidu further lambasted BJP for its undemocratic practices including sending a letter by Archaeological Society of India to take control of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD). “I warn Prime Minister Modi and BJP government not to touch TTD. Don’t play with Lord Venkateshwara Swamy. Such threat of BJP shows mockery side of the saffron party. Godhra incident is still fresh in minds of people. We don’t forget the massacre of 2,000 people in Gujarat. I assure Muslims in AP that an Islamic Bank will soon be set up for extending interest-free loans. Three Huj houses are coming up at Kurnool, Kadapa and Amaravati. Urdu University will also be set up in the state very soon,” maintained Naidu.

The chief minister has showered sops on Madanapalli. “I have received several requests from Madanapalli.

“I promise you that the TDP government will make Madanapalli as an IT hub. We’ll set up an IT tower here. In addition to this, an airport will also come up here. Once the Congress government returns to power at the Centre, I assure all the weavers waiving of GST for handloom products. Unemployment stipend will be increased from Rs2,000 to Rs3,000,” assures Naidu.

Andhra Vs Telangana – it’s a battle of sentiments now

0

K Chandrasekhara Rao came to power by whipping up Telangana sentiment in 2018. In Andhra politics, such regional sentiments usually do not work. Even if they are there, they will not work like a miracle. It’s because Andhra voters are divided across caste and religious lines vertically. The scene has changed to a large extent this time. There is an under current of Andhra sentiment which is in a subtle, steady form.

While KCR used abusive and offensive language to raise T-sentiment, Chandrababu Naidu is just sharply criticising Jagan, Modi and KCR. Naidu’s game plan is clear. He does not use offensive language like he never did in his four decades of long political career. But he is bringing up Andhra sentiment in an indirect way. Thus, anti-Modi and anti-KCR sentiments are building up across the state, which is raising pro-Andhra sentiment eventually.

It is in this respect that the opposition YCP is not able to take full advantage of anti-government factor. Even Jana Senani Pawan Kalyan is not able to make expected impact just because he is not fully addressing Andhra sentiment. Analysts say that like Telangana, there is a chance the TDP will finally get an edge by riding the sentiment wave.

Modi should be packed back to Gujarat, says Naidu

0

Hitting back strongly, AP CM Chandrababu Naidu gave a call to the people to defeat the evil trio of Jagan, Chandrasekhara Rao and Modi. He also appealed to the voters to pack up PM Narendra Modi and send him back to his home state of Gujarat. Any further extension to Modi would be detrimental to the larger and future interests of the country as a whole and in the best interests of the people.

Naidu’s criticism in stronger words came in the wake of Modi’s allegations that AP CM is behaving like the villainous ‘Bhallaladeva’ character of the super hit movie ‘Baahubali’. CM is addressing election meetings in Kadapa district. He said KCR has robbed Andhra people of their 60 years of hard work they put into the construction of modern day Hyderabad and Cyberabad cities in Telangana.

Naidu told AP voters that now KCR is not satisfied with injustice that he has to AP and he has started to continue crippling AP by using Jaganmohan Reddy as a puppet in his hands. TDP boss told the voters to be very vigilant and defeat all the forces that are bent upon destroying future prospects of the state.

Chandrababu Naidu using Polavaram project as ATM: Modi

0

Hyderabad: Prime Minister Narendra Modi came down heavily on Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and AP chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu for stamping Centre’s schemes as his party’s policies. Moreover, Naidu is using Polavaram project for drawing funds from the Centre and not spending them properly, maintained Modi.

The Prime Minister has asked Andhraites to go through newspapers three years ago and notice what’s Naidu is criticizing about the BJP-led NDA government.

“That’s why we call Chandrababu Naidu as U-turn Babu. Naidu was praising the NDA government earlier and now started criticizing for no fault of the BJP. This is just for political gain only. The Centre has so far released over Rs7,000 crore funds for Polavaram. What’s been the progress so far? TDP and previous government didn’t do anything for Polavaram project for over four decades. The NDA government has only released Rs7,000 crore funds. However, they’re not utilized properly. The U-turn Babu is using Polavaram project as ATM machine to draw funds from the Centre. Andhraites should realise about what’s happening,” said Modi.

Addressing at a public meeting in Rajahmahendravaram on Monday afternoon, Modi further criticized Naidu and his party for posing question over surgical strikes, while ignoring Pulvama attack by militants.

“Such statements can only appease Pakistan. This is showing the innerside of Naidu. Andhra Pradesh people prefer to maintain their own heritage and culture. BJP is committed to protect Andhra heritage and culture, while Naidu prefers his own Heritage company,” remarked Modi.

Stage set for Naidu, Mamata, Kejriwal’s Vizag rally

0

In yet another show of opposition unity, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu along with his West Bengal and Delhi counterparts, Mamata Banerjee and Arvind Kejriwal respectively, will address an election rally here on Sunday as part of their campaign against Prime Minister Narndra Modi for the coming Lok Sabha polls.

The three-hour rally will commence at around 5.30 p.m. at the Indira Priyadarshini Municipal Stadium in this port town.

Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal will campaign for Naidu’s Telugu Desam Party (TDP) at the mega rally.

Banerjee arrived here in the afternoon while Kejriwal is to reach by the evening.

After the rally, the three Chief Ministers will remain in Visakhapatnam to discuss the national scenario and work out strategies in the coming days.

The move is part of simultaneous Assembly and Parliamentary polls which will take place in Andhra Pradesh in the first phase on April 11.

Five years ago in the same location, Naidu along with Modi and film actor Pawan Kalyan had addressed a joint rally seeking mandate for the TDP rule in the state and formation of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led NDA government at the Centre in the 2014 Lo Sabha elections.

Naidu had pulled his TDP out of the NDA in March 2018 alleging injustice being meted out to the state by the Modi government.

Since then, he has been in the forefront of the proposed Grand Alliance (mahagathbandhan), trying to get together all opposition parties, including the Congress.

Naidu, who orchestrated a big rally against the Modi government in Delhi, has lined up all his allies for his campaign in Andhra Pradesh against Modi at the Centre and YSR Congress Party in Andhra Pradesh.

Though many other leaders from the proposed Grand Alliance including Janata Dal-Secular President H.D. Deve Gowda, DMK chief M.K. Stalin, Nationalist Congress Party President Sharad Pawar, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav and former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdulla were invited to the rally, but were unable to attend, a TDP leader familiar with the development said.

Kejriwal and Abdullah had already addressed a few meetings in the state.

Gowda is expected to join the campaign for the TDP next week and more leaders from non-BJP parties are expected to canvass in support of TDP candidates in next few days.

Visakhapatnam is a very important constituency like Hyderabad as it is a cosmopolitan city with a large number of people from West Bengal, Odisha and northeastern states settling there for education, employment and business activities.

“We are fighting against Modi government because it did not give special status to Andhra Pradesh despite its promises. There are other many issues on which the TDP was cheated,” Lanka Dinakar, TDP national spokesperson, told IANS.

He said that a joint campaign by Banerjee and Kejriwal would really help garner votes in favour of the TDP.

The Congress however, is staying away from the Visakhapatnam rally because the party is fighting the elections independently in all the 175 Assembly and 25 Lok Sabha constituencies in Andhra Pradesh.

Are pro-TDP surveys over-confident?

0

All pro-TDP predictions are saying that the ruling party will win over and above 125 seats in the 175-member Assembly. For the first time in his 4 decades of political career, the Chandrababu Naidu government is facing a contest that is seeing triangular contests in key areas. TDP is relying now sheerly on the strength of a pro-incumbency vote and positive response to its women-centred welfare programmes. No major issue has come up to unnerve and shake the ruling TDP ever since the election campaign began. This is despite aggressive campaigning by Jagan and Pawan.

Analysts say Naidu’s huge political and electoral experience has proved to be a big asset right from the beginning. On their part, Jaganmohan Reddy is giving a tight contest by trying to reignite the welfarist YSR sentiment and sympathy while Pawan Kalyan is attacking both YCP and TDP only threatening to mar their winning chances.

The evolving scenario is thus boosting the confidence of the TDP leaders who now say their party will win not less than 125 seats. In 2014, the TDP won 102 seats and formed the first government after separation of residual Andhra Pradesh. From the development agenda to women’s welfare schemes to inexperience of younger rivals, all factors are being considered favourable to Chandrababu Naidu. Is this mere over confidence of TDP? It all depends on how people’s mood changes in the next few days ahead of April 11 election.
