Tollywood young sensation and sensational director Puri Jagannadh are teaming up for the first time for a sports drama that is laced with enough romance and action. Tentatively titled Fighter, the shoot of the film came to a halt last year because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Though most of the films resumed shoot, Fighter is yet to resume work which paved paths for several controversies.

Several gossip portals carried the news that the film is shelved due to the financial stress. Some of them even speculated that Vijay Devarakonda shifted his focus towards his upcoming movies. Going with the current update, the shoot of Fighter will resume from January 20th and will continue till the end of this month. A part of the film will be shot abroad and hundreds of foreign fighters will participate in the action stunts canned in this schedule.

Puri is currently planning the schedules of Fighter. Ananya Pandey is the leading lady and Puri Jagannadh, Karan Johar are the producers. An official release date of the film will be announced once the shoot of the film gets completed.

Opening up for the first time in an interview, Vijay said, “Film with Puri is my most commercial film but not one of those, I have grown up watching. This will be a whacky edgy commercial film and strange in its own way.”
“It is still my kind of film like when I heard it, I knew this is something I wanted to do as an actor. It’s not like that I doing a commercial film for the sake of doing this genre. It’s the box that clicked like as an actor, I want to do this and it happened to be very commercial because of the director’s sensibilities,” added Vijay.

On the preparation part of his role, Vijay said, “I have been training for his role for the past eight months now. In between I lost motivation but then I had to shut up myself and keep it going. My character in this film looks like someone can beat the shit out of the other guy.”

Lastly Vijay said Pokiri has to be his favourite Puri Jagannadh film.

Manisharma is no longer associated with the film and the hunt for the right music composer is on. Karan Johar wanted Puri to work with multiple music composers but Puri is keen to finalize one of the top composers for Fighter. Things will be finalized soon after which the music sittings will commence. Puri is currently in Mumbai while Vijay Devarakonda is in Hyderabad. The next schedule of the film will commence in Hyderabad after a set would be erected in Ramoji Film City. Puri Jagannadh and Karan Johar are jointly producing Fighter which will release next year.
