MAA elections: Manchu Vishnu defeats Prakash Raj by huge margin

Actor Manchu Vishnu was Sunday elected as the new President of Movie Artists Association (MAA), defeating Prakash Raj by a huge margin in a bitterly-contested election.

Vishnu, son of veteran actor Mohan Babu, defeated Prakash Raj by 106 votes.

Ending day-long suspense, MAA election officer Krishna Mohan announced the poll results on Sunday night. Vishnu polled 380 votes while Prakash Raj, who was branded as non-local by some supporters of rival panel, could secure 274 votes.

A native of Karnataka, Prakash Raj acts in Telugu and other South Indian films. He had unsuccessfully contested Lok Sabha election from Bangalore Central as an independent candidate in 2019.

The Vishnu panel also bagged the key posts of Vice President, General Secretary, and Treasurer. Madhala Ravi was elected Vice President beating Benerjee of the Prakash Raj panel.

Raghu Babu trounced Jeevitha Rajasekhar for the post of General Secretary by 7 votes. Siva Balaji was elected treasurer, defeating Nagineedu by 32 votes. Balaji polled 316 votes while Nagineedu secured 284 votes.

Actor Srikanth from Prakash Raj panel was elected Executive Vice President. He defeated Babu Mohan of the Vishnu panel.

The acrimonious election was seen as a tussle between families of megastar Chiranjeevi and veteran actor Mohan Babu. Chiranjeevi’s family backed Prakash Raj while Mohan Babu actively campaigned for his son Manchu Vishnu.

Soon after the results were declared, Chiranjeevi took to Twitter to congratulate Vishnu and other members of the new body. He hoped that the new body will work for the welfare of all artists. “MAA has always been one family. No matter who wins, it’s the victory of our family,” he wrote.

Earlier speaking at a film event Chiranjeevi expressed his displeasure over the acrimony created during the MAA elections. He remarked that positions are temporary.

According to election officer, 68 per cent polling was recorded which was highest in the history of the MAA. Out of 925 members of the MAA, 883 were eligible to cast their votes and of them, 605 did do to elect 26-member body comprising the President, two Vice Presidents, Executive Vice President, General Secretary, two Joint Secretaries, Treasurer and 18 Executive Committee members.

The polling which began at 8 a.m. at Jubilee Hills Public School was peaceful barring minor clashes between the two rival groups.

The polling, which was to end at 2 p.m., was extended by an hour by election officer Krishna Mohan. The counting of votes began at 4 p.m.

The first result went in favour of the Prakash Raj panel when Shia Reddy was elected as executive member. This was followed by three more victories for the panel as Anasuya, Kaushik and Suresh Kondeti were also elected as executive members.

From the Vishnu panel, Poojitha, Shashank, Jayavani, U.P. Srinivasulu, Srilakshmi, Manik, Harinath Babu, and Vishnu Boppana were elected as executive members.

Chiranjeevi, leading actors Pawan Kalyan, Balakrishna and Nagarjuna were among leading personalities of Tollywood who cast their votes.

Murali Mohan, Mohan Babu, Jaya Prada, Rajendra Prasad, Roja, Babu Mohan, Naga Babu and other prominent faces also came to vote.

After a bitter campaign between the rival panels, scenes of camaraderie were witnessed on the polling day. The two actors, battling for the post of MAA President, shook hands and embraced each other to declare that they are all one.

Prakash Raj also shook hands with Mohan Babu and took his blessings. Mohan Babu had arrived early at the polling booth to bless his son Vishnu and claimed that the panel enjoyed support of majority of voters.

MAA founding President Chiranjeevi said he cast his vote as per his conscience. He said every time MAA elections were being held with the same acrimony and called for putting an end to this trend.

Actor politician Pawan Kalyan was one of the first to cast his votes. Talking to reporters, the Jana Sena president declined to name the panel he votes for saying this would amount to influencing voters. He said MAA elections would have no bearing on the friendship between his brother Chiranjeevi and Mohan Babu. Pawan said the film industry will not split due to MAA polls.

Chiranjeevi’s other brother Naga Babu, however, told reporters that he cast his vote for the Prakash Raj panel.

Leading actor Balakrishna told reporters after casting his vote that Prakash Raj and Vishnu are like brothers. The actor politician, who had earlier declared his support to Vishnu, said he votes for those who will do better.

Veteran actor Jaya Prada also cast her vote. Mohan Babu said she flew in from Delhi at his request to participate in the voting.

Ileana, who had been staying away from Telugu films following his marriage to Bollwyood actor Ritesh Deshmukh, also came to Hyderabad to cast his vote. She said MAA will soon have a super President.

There was mild tension at polling booth when Vishnu panel members alleged that Prakash Raj panel members were campaigning inside the booth. Siva Balaji tried to stop a member of Prakash Raj panel who was allegedly giving dummy ballot to voters. There was heated argument between the two groups and the police had to intervene to pacify them.

Mohan Babu also took exception to campaigning by Prakash Raj panel inside the booth. He urged voters to leave in five minutes after exercising their franchise. There was also heated argument between Siva Balaji and Hema.

Prakash Raj takes on Vishnu Manchu in direct fight for MAA president

0

The battle lines are drawn for the October 10 elections for Movie Artistes Association (MAA), the apex body of Tollywood.

With CVL Narasimha Rao and K. Shravan Kumar withdrawing their nominations, actor Prakash Raj is locked in a direct fight with Vishnu Manchu for the post of MAA president.

A total of 56 candidates are in the fray for elections to 26-member body of MAA. Election officer Krishna Mohan announced the final list of candidates after the withdrawal of nominations.

Babu Mohan and Srikanth will vie for the post of MAA executive president. For the two posts of vice-presidents, actor-producer Madhala Ravi and comedian Prithviraj Bali Reddy are contesting from Vishnu panel. From Prakash Raj’s panel, Benerjee and Hema are in the fray for the same posts.

For the key post of general secretary, Jeevita Rajasekhar is contesting as a candidate from Prakash Raj’s panel. She is locked in a direct fight with Raghu Babu from Vishnu’s panel.

Bandla Ganesh had also filed his nomination for the post but withdrew from the contest on the advice of industry elders.

For the post of treasure, actor Siva Balaji (Vishnu’s panel) is pitted against Nagineedu (Prakash Raj Panel).

Character actor Karate Kalyani and comedian Gautham Raju from Vishnu’s panel will be testing their fortunes for the post of joint secretaries. Uttej, Anit Chowdary and Bacchala Srinivas are also in the fray for the two posts.

A total of 39 candidates are in the fray for 18 posts of executive members. The candidates from Vishnu’s panel for these posts are Archana (Veda), Ashok Kumar, Geeta Singh, Harinath Babu, Jayavani, Malakpeta Shailaja, Manik, Poojitha, Rajeshwari Reddy, Rekha, Sampoornesh Babu, Shashank, Sivannarayana, Silakshmi, P. Srinivasulu, Swapna Madhu, Vishnu Bopanna and M.R.C. Vadlapatla.

Prakash Raj panel includes Srikanth, Uttej, Anasuya, Ajay, Bhopal, Brahmaji, ETV Prabhakar, Govind Rao, Khayyum, Kaushik, Pragathi, Ramanareddy, Sridhar Rao, Shivareddy, Sameer, Sudigali Sudhir, Subbaraju, Suresh Kondetti, Tanish, and Tarzan.

More than 900 movie artists will cast their votes on October 10. Electronic Voting Machines will be used for the polling to be held at Jubliee Public School in Film Nagar from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Results will be announced the same evening.

Prakash Raj was the first to announce his panel and he has been actively campaigning. He also received support from actors Jeevitha Rajasekhar and Hema, who dropped their plans to contest against him and joined his panel.

“I came here to serve the film industry. I want to serve my fellow artistes and industry people,” Prakash Raj had said while announcing his panel

Prakash Raj, who unsuccessfully contested as an independent candidate in 2019 Lok Sabha elections from Bengaluru Central, made cautious manoeuvres to win the support of many. He urged the MAA members to cast their conscience vote.

“#MaaElections2021… Your vote is your voice.. The welfare of MAA is our viewpoint. Let’s vote with conscience and ensure the victory of MAA aspirations,” the actor tweeted after filing his nomination last week.

It also includes Uttej as Joint Secretary, Banerjee as Vice President, Hema as Vice President, Srikanth as Executive Vice President, and Jeevitha Rajasekhar as General Secretary.

Tollywood sources say Prakash Raj has considerably bright chances of winning the election as MAA president. He enjoys the backing of Megastar Chiranjeevi and his family members.

On the other hand, Vishnu received the support from outgoing president Naresh, who criticized Prakash Raj.

“In the 25 years history of MAA, have you cast your vote at least once? Did you attend any general body meeting,” he asked Prakash Raj.

In 2019, actor-producer Naresh was elected as MAA president, defeating Shivaji Raja, who was contesting for second consecutive term

On the Naresh panel, Jeevitha Rajasekhar was elected as general secretary while her husband actor Rajasekhar was elected as executive vice-president.

Naresh said though one year of his term was wasted because of Covid-19 pandemic, he worked efficiently for the welfare of all. He alleged that some outsiders influenced about 11 members and blocked the welfare works for under privileged artists.

He claimed that for the first time in MAA history, his panel provided insurance for 900 members. “If any member died, we ensured the insurance money of Rs 3 lakh reached the deceased family,” he said.

I don’t agree with Pawan comments: Manchu Vishnu

2

Manchu Vishnu today filled his nominations for MAA elections. He also convened a press meet after the nominations and expressed his views on ongoing tussle between film industry and AP government.

He told, his father himself will respond to the points raised by Pawan and will answer to each and every point raised. Speaking on MAA elections, he told, after seeing his manifesto, even Chiranjeevi and Pawan also will vote for him. MAA elections : Vishnu to strike a deal with the Jeevitha

Movie artist Association elections have now become as interesting as any political elections. The upcoming election has become more interesting with the latest statement of Jeevitha that she is also in the race this time. However as per the reports actor Manchu Vishnu is trying to strike an interesting deal with Jeevitha . Details as follows..

It is already known that Prakash Raj is the first one to announce that he will be contesting Movie Artistes Association elections this time. Reportedly he also has the blessings of megastar Chiranjeevi regarding this. However things are not smooth for him as actor Manchu Vishnu also decided to contest against him. While most of the people were thinking that film industry bigwigs will try to compromise Prakash Raj or Manchu Vishnu and make it unanimous this time , suddenly Jeevitha entered the stage and announced that she is also in the race this time which makes the fight a triangular one.

However, reportedly , Manchu Vishnu family is trying to strike a deal with Jeevitha. She’s already working as a secretary in the Movie Artists Association. In the previous elections , Rajasekhar was elected as vice president and she was the secretary. However Rajasekhar resigned to the post after the differences with Naresh , who was president of movie artist Association at that time. Though Rajasekhar resigned, Jeevitha continued as secretary. Now Manchu Vishnu reportedly asking her to continue as secretary from his panel this time also so that the triangular fight can be avoided. Also as Jeevitha has some supporters , her joining into Vishnu panel may help him as well. In return, Manchu Vishnu is offering to support her as Movie artist Association president candidate in the next election.

We will have to wait and see if Jeevitha accepts the offer proposed by Manchu Vishnu.

Manchu Vishnu’s Mosagallu Review

Mosagallu review

Mosagallu review

Telugu360 Rating : 2/5

Manchu Vishnu needs a solid hit and there are no takers for the actor. He took his time and is focused on Mosagallu, a big-budget film that is based on the biggest IT scam in the world. Made on a budget of Rs 51 crores, the film is directed by Jeffrey Gee Chin. Top actress Kajal Aggarwal plays Vishnu’s sister in the film and Suniel Shetty, Naveen Chandra and Navdeep will be seen in other important roles. Sam CS composed the music and Vishnu’s 24 Frames Factory are the producers. The film released today and here is the complete movie review of Mosagallu:

Story:

Anu (Kajal Aggarwal) and Arjun (Manchu Vishnu) are siblings and they are born in poverty. They dream of earning big in life. They come up with a formula that cheating the rich is never a crime. Arjun works in a call centre and is well bonded with his boss Sandeep Reddy (Navdeep). Anu, Arjun and Sandeep join hands for the biggest ever scam. They earn thousands of crores which gets traced by the USA government. The rest of Mosagallu is all about the scam of Rs 2600 crores and what happens next. DCP Kumar Bhatia (Suniel Shetty) is the special officer who is assigned the duty to nab the masterminds behind the scam. Watch Mosagallu to know about the real facts:

Analysis:

Any crime thriller should be backed by a strong logic and interesting screenplay. The crime should be explained in detail and it should impress the audience. Mosagallu which has a good plot lacks interesting narration and it misses the needed logic. The entire scam happens on a laptop screen and the lead actors turn rich in a fraction of seconds. Everyone is well aware of the American security system and the laws along with the strict rules of the government. The USA government holds the information of any crime that happens across the globe. But the lead actors in Mosagallu cheat hundreds of Americans so easily.

The team of Mosagallu should have worked well in detail about the scam and the format to be narrated. DGP’s acts to catch the culprits are shown in a silly manner. Along with this, the entire film is completely predictable and has no twists that leave the audience in surprise. By the time the interval episodes are around, the audience will feel that they are done with the film and the second half offers nothing exciting. Manchu Vishnu announced that he spent Rs 51 crores on the film but Mosagallu never sounds so. The second half is a complete disappointment and misses many logics.

Performances:

Manchu Vishnu is good in his role and Mosagallu is a new genre for the actor. The entire story revolves around Arjun. Kajal looks beautiful in the small role and she hardly has any prominence. The team of Mosagallu should have worked on her role. Suniel Shetty is roped in for a pan-Indian appeal but his role is not impressive. Navdeep is good in his role and Naveen Chandra fails to make an impact. All the other actors had limited screen presence.

The basic plot of Mosagallu is good but there is no need for a Hollywood director to helm this film. The background score is good and it elevated some of the episodes. Though Manchu Vishnu said that Mosagallu is made on Hollywood standards, the cinematography work, editing and production values are below par and are no match to Hollywood flicks. Mosagallu is a huge misfire as it lacks a gripping narration, interesting twists and strong characterizations.

Verdict:

Mosagallu is one more dud from Manchu Vishnu and it can be given a skip.

His comments drew ire from netizens as they questioned Manchu family’s dual standards with respect to the states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Now Manchu Vishnu went extra mile and played the role of spokesperson for TRS party and defended KCR and KTR strongly.

He tweeted, “Some factions are also stating that the film fraternity are “scared” of Mr. KCR and I’d like to say that these people have a great imagination. There is no truth to this. My concern lies primarily in finding the reasons first so we can prevent such an atrocity in the future. We live in a democracy, and as far as I know KTR is a very proactive and pro student politician & yes Mr. KCR is known to be a firebrand but for a reason and he isn’t a dictator. So instead of blaming the T Govt, I would stress on concentrating first to know the real cause. It’s unfortunate and horrible that we have lost 20 brothers and sisters because of the mistakes and our deepest condolences lie with their families. I strongly believe that if the Govt does not react to this heinous act, then it surely attracts criticism.”

However, his comments received wide criticism from netizens. Many people questioned whether Manchu family had responded the same way if the issue had occurred in the state of Andhra Pradesh. it is known news that Manchu Mohan Babu made it a very big issue regarding pending dues of fee reimbursement from AP government. Some other found fault with Vishnu saying KCR is not a dictator and they asked Vishnu to make one negative comment on TRS government and find himself whether KCR is a dictator or not. A few others even attributed motives for the statements of Manchu Vishnu and told that Vishnu has corporate schools are running in Hyderabad and that’s why he is scared of passing even slightest negative remark on KCR government. A few others alleged that some members of Manchu family were there in drugs case but their names were not revealed to media and that’s why Vishnu is reciprocating now towards KCR government.

Will have to wait and see how Vishnu response to all these comments.
