LLP to be merged with Producers Council?

0

Top Tollywood producers floated LLP which is almost equal to Producers Council. LLP triggered several controversies because of the new rules and regulations. They restricted the promotions of their films to limited tv channels and they took solo decisions about telecasting the films on digital platforms. Now efforts are made to merge LLP with the Producers Council. After nine years, Producers Council is heading for elections and the panels of C Kalyan, Prasanna Kumar are competing.

C Kalyan says that with the suggestions of industry biggies, the new body of the council will be elected. He said that Producers Council is losing crores of money because of LLP and all the future decisions will be taken through Producers Council. Most of the members of the Producers Council are not producing films and the producers who are busy producing big-budget films felt that there are a lot of problems because of Producers Council because of which they floated LLP.

It is still unclear if all these producers return back to Producers Council if given prominent places in the committee.

Rockstar DSP reaches all time low: What’s wrong?

Rockstar Devi Sri Prasad is a sensation in Telugu film industry. Despite of charging huge, several top and young filmmakers waited for this sensational composer who delivered some best works in Tollywood. The young composer is out of form from some time and his work is badly criticized. He is badly trolled across social media for his recent works. DSP is charging Rs 2.5 – 3 crores per film which is highest in Tollywood.

DSP fell short of expectations due to his hectic work, back to back films. Though his recent songs did not impress, DSP never disappointed with his background score. This is because of which, he is still the first consideration for several top filmmakers. Most of the filmmakers are not in a mood to risk with young and new composers because of which DSP is busy with back to back biggies. It’s high time for the top composer to focus more, sign less and deliver his best like before.

Hope he reviews his work, considers the feedback coming from his fans and steps out with his best work soon.

The summer season started with a bang with Majili featuring Naga Chaitanya and Samantha in the lead roles. The film has been declared as the biggest hit in the career of Chaitanya and is expected to end up collecting Rs 40 crores in its final run.

Nani’s Jersey trailer looks promising and generated positive buzz all over. The film is releasing this Friday and is expected to have a decent box-office run. Superstar Mahesh Babu will test his luck with Maharshi this May and is the only biggie during this season.

According to the latest reports, the statue will be unveiled by Mahesh Babu on this 25th in Singapore and it will be flown down to Hyderabad to be displayed at his superplex AMB cinemas.

A Big move by Tollywood producers on Digital Streaming

Digital streaming giants like Amazon Prime, Netflix, Jio, Zee5 and Hotstar have been paying a huge price for the digital rights of the Indian films and they are streaming the film before its theatrical run coming to an end in 3-4 weeks after the release. This turned out to be a huge dent for the filmmaker as well as the distributor. Several recent Telugu biggies have been streamed across Amazon Prime after three to four weeks of the theatrical release.

The Telugu Film Producers Council imposed a strict rule that Telugu films should be streamed only after eight weeks of the theatrical release irrespective of the price the digital giants are paying. If the film turns successful, the audience will return back to theatres to catch the film once again as the digital release will be a long wait. Hindi films are already following this rule. Now, the recent meeting by TFPC locked this and this rule will be implemented from April 1st.

Why is Geetha Arts the favorite production house for Tollywood directors ?

Mega Producer Allu Aravind has been scoring back to back hits and his production house Geetha Arts has been listed as one of the best and top production houses of the country. Several young and aspiring directors dream of working with Geetha Arts. They support the directors to the core and give them a free hand once the plot gets locked. The selection of actors and technicians is the choice of the director and not the producer.

Most of the directors will be on board on profit sharing and as promised, Geetha Arts pays their part if the film works out. They are very prompt with payments. After Geetha Govindam was successful, seeing potential of film, some insiders advised Allu Aravind to pay a lump sum and clear of dues to director Parasuram (as he had profit share agreement). But Allu Aravindh rejected that and told “kastapaddadu dabbulu chesukonivvandi” Geetha Arts and Allu Aravind loves to give the success credit to the director or the technician and they are well appreciated. After filmmaking, Geetha Arts follows a process and promotes the film on a lavish scale and prefers to release the film at the right time because of which most of the films fetch good results.

Perfect planning, right script selection, picking up the director, promising production values, promoting the film as per the content made Geetha Arts the favorite production house for Tollywood directors.

MeToo in Tollywood refuses to die down

The widespread campaign against sexual harassment on woman, #MeToo has now hit Telugu film industry. To create a safe working environment, Tollywood female artists and directors have launched a platform ‘ Voice of Woman’ to stand in support of the victims.

As reported by Telugu360 a few days ago, several big names of Tollywood have allegedly been linked with sexual misconduct and harassment by several female actors and directors in a meeting led by Samantha, Nandini Reddy and Jhansi. The committee has asked all women to come up with complaints regarding sexual harassment.

Now, it is learnt that the committee has received serious allegations labelled against four directors and two mid range actors. Allu Aravind, Gemini Kiran and Tamareddy Bharadwaj are getting involved in this issue. It is also heard that the committee has adequate proofs to prove the allegations made by lady artists.

It looks like the MeToo campaign is unlikely to die down in Tollywood the near future and several big names may come out in the coming days.

#MeToo : Woman journalist speaks out on harassment by a Tollywood actor

Over the past week, women journalists from English media have been calling out on sexual harassment like never before, but the silence from women in regional media proves obscenity is far more deep rooted. Nobody wants to discuss the elephant in the room of how the journalists from regional media have to endure lot more.

Why is the #metoo movement confined to English media? Are women journalists of regional media in safe hands? Women shared that they had to wear dupatta when going to meet a politician or a leader. What happens to women in regional media, when they meet up with actors in Tollywood where there have been numerous instances of sexual harassment. While Sri Reddy led the movement of bringing out the deep-rooted cases of harassment in Tollywood, it is not confined to aspiring actors but expanded its wings to journalists. A journalist speaks to Telugu360 on the ordeal she had to endure, because of an actor.

Here is what she wrote to us –

I am writing about an actor who is better known as the husband of a famous Telugu only singer – This was in 2015 when I had approached him for some story that I was working on and in the next two days it was filed, published and I thought I was done with him. But I got a message from him in the middle of the night at 2am one day saying “Hi sup”. I found it really weird but texted him nevertheless the next morning and asked what it was that he needed. He responded saying he was “just thinking” of me ever since he heard “my voice”. From then on I made an effort to keep away from the guy even though he texted often. I stopped changing my profile pictures too because he would text whenever I changed it. He was married by this time and so I once decided to just remind him about it and he replied, “If you can keep a secret, I can keep a secret.”

I stated clearly to him at one point that “I am not interested”, hoping that would make him go away. But almost over 2 months of the insistence, I decided to put an end to this consistent torture because I was feeling guilty that I was probably egging him on to send me all these messages most of which were various proposals to meet. One line was, “I have always fantasized being with a daring journalist like you.”

But I never blocked him and was never even rude to him because I was worried I might need him for a story in the future and he may not talk to me then. It seems silly at this point but I did think that then.

I never responded to him eventually and within 4 months it was over and that was the best way to end it. I eventually did get an occasional “hi I am doing so and so film” as messages from him but even then his name on the phone does make my spine chill because I go back to the times he used words like… “baby”, “babe”, “papa” all paired with some form of invitation to join him at some place.

Conclusion :

This cannot be rubbed off merely as a text message which she could have blocked. The actor’s thought of taking a shot, trying his luck out, despite being married in itself is heinous. It is with great difficult that women enter into this male dominated field and this intrusion into private space is difficult for men to understand. While this incident is just tip of the iceberg, the journalist couldn’t avoid but run into the actor frequently at interviews. When she ran into the harasser, the actor behaved like stranger with no guilt or shame of intruding privacy of journalist.

Explosive : #MeToo in Tollywood

0

The #MeToo movement, a global campaign against sexual harassment and assault on women in various fields, has evoked a widespread support in India when Bollywood actor Tanushree Dutt opened up about the trauma she faced while working with Nana Patekar. This was followed by several allegations from women of various industries.

Now, the juggernaut seems to have struck Tollywood. It is exclusively learnt that the #MeToo movement is going to have a measurable impact in Tollywood as negotiations are being held with film chamber by the women group spearheaded by Suma Kanakala, Jhansi and Nandini Reddy to formulate guidelines and create a safe environment for female artists in the film industry.

In a recent meeting held with all prominent female artists of Tollywood, severe allegations against some of the top actors and directors have been made by some of them. It is said that a consensus has been made not to malign heroes and directors who passed away. The movement has got the support of top actresses like Samantha, Kajal and Anushka.

Will “Me too” movement catch up in Tollywood too?

“Me too” movement that started in Hollywood one year back created sensation as many top artistes came out and shared their experiences. Recently Tanushree Dutta made allegations on senior actor Nana Patekar and after that many such incidents came out in Bollywood as well as in South India. There is a debate going on among the people whether such movement will start in Tollywood too. In fact that, there have already been incidents where actresses made allegations on Tollywood stars but those incidents were never highlighted by Telugu media and soon their allegations faded out.

Radhika Apte sensational comments on “Top Hero”:

Earlier, Radhika Apte, who acted in Telugu movies, made sensational comments on ‘Top hero’ of Tollywood in an interview without giving his name directly.

She explained about the unpleasant incident she faced in Tollywood – “It was my first day on the sets of a Telugu film. I was lying down, because I was unwell. This male actor walked in. I did not even know him, and he started tickling my feet. I was told he was quite influential.” she added that she snapped him, and after that incident, he didn’t misbehave with her. Even though she did not give the name directly, most of the people could figure out who this box office Bonanza star is. Because, she clearly told it was not superstar Rajinikanth. if we leave out name of Rajnikanth, there is only one star hero she worked with in South India. List of her South Indian films as below:

    Vivek Oberoy (Rakta Charitra)
    Prakash Raj (Dhoni )
    Bala Krishna (Legend, Lion)
    Ajmal Ameer (Tamil film)
    Karthi (Tamil film)
    Fahadh Faasil (Malayal Film)
    Rajni ( Kabali )

Yesteryear actress Kasturi allegations on hero cum politician:

Kasthuri, who has worked in Telugu films like Nippu Ravva, Soggadi Pellam, Annamayya and some other movies also opened up on harassment she faced in Tollywood. She spoke about her horrible experience and told “I would like to point out that most of this was in relation to this one hero – this one guy who is a hero/politician now. I think it was some kind of ego thing for him. I respect him in so many ways, but he couldn’t take no for an answer. He kept harassing me for that one movie I did with him and threw me out of two.” She also did not reveal name of the hero but people could figure out, about whom she is talking. She clearly told he is a politician and she told all this in interview she gave in 2017.

Others:

Recently a lady journalist shared her story with a big star, who has been forcing her to meet personally, but she too didn’t reveal his name. Heroine Aditi Rao also sometime back opened up about her experience. Singer Chinmayi’s courage in opening up against veteran lyricist Vairamuthu is appreciated by many.

Sri Reddy: Difference between “Casting couch” and “Me too”

Another name that strikes while discussing this issue with respect to Tollywood is Sri Reddy. She occupied most of the screen time of many TV channels for a month or so, as she went on making allegations against several Tollywood celebrities. However there is difference between these two issues. The issues raised in Hollywood or Bollywood in the name of “Me too” movement are more related to the sexual harassment women associates facing at workplace or by the fellow associates with whom they are working. In most of these issues, women clearly told that they didn’t succumb to the tactics of the male associates, they rebelled against those male associates and they even complained to others in the industry when they faced these incidents. But in case of casting couch allegations raised by Sri Reddy, she herself openly told that these producers / directors and others have failed to keep up their promises of giving opportunities to her despite she compromised with them.

But still, Sri Reddy is considered torchbearer in this issue in Tollywood. The way she boldly revealed several things stunned many people. However her fight lost all credibility among people as she started targeting people like Pawan Kalyan who are no way related in this issue. People believed this is another political sketch to defame Pawan Kalyan by some leading media houses that colluded with ruling party and Sri Reddy is just a front face behind a bigger conspiracy. At some point, Sri Reddy lost control and used cuss words against Pawan Kalyan and his mother and with that one incident, her entire movement came to an end and TV channels started completely avoiding her.

Finally:

Had Sri Reddy stuck to the core issue and fought against the predators in Tollywood, she would have definitely been approached by many victims and many such incidents would have come out. But the opportunity has been lost as victims in the industry thought her fight is not genuine and is politically motivated and they stopped approaching her. But now again, after Bollywood ‘Me too’, victims in south India just started to open up but it is not very intense. Anyway, it is sure that someday such movement will start in Tollywood too. It is just a matter of time to get some trigger point to re-start “Me too” in Tollywood.

Tollywood ‘Villain’ to contest from Kukatpally?

0

Telugu film actor GV Sudhakar Naidu announced that he will be contesting from Kukatpally constituency as MLA. He didn’t reveal whether he will be contesting as independent or he will be contesting from some party. He told he will be soon starting a campaign of “I love Kukatpally”.

Sudhakar Naidu acted in films like Anthapuram, Pokiri, Sarainodu and legend. He also directed 2 films – Ranga the Donga and hero. Kukatpally constituency has more Andhra people than Telangana people. Probably the reason for him to choose Kukatpally constituency.

We will have to wait and see whether he will succeed in politics or not.

USA Event brings differences in MAA

0

Movie Artistes Association (MAA) has been in news in the recent times after they rejected membership for controversial actress Sri Reddy. The latest news is that differences arose between the members of MAA after the USA event for which Megastar Chiranjeevi attended as Chief Guest. The way the event has been organised did not go well with some of the members.

Going into the news, MAA hired an event management company for the event to be held and MAA was paid a whopping amount of Rs 1 crore by the event manager. The members of MAA were left in shock after the event management company pocketed over Rs 5 crores through the event and did not share any of the profits with MAA. There are talks that couple of senior actors who are active in MAA invested in the event and they shared the profits silently without disclosing this with the other members of Movie Artistes Association.

This did not go well with the other members of MAA after which differences arose. The senior actors preferred not to speak about the issue and are tight lipped even after being questioned repeatedly by the other members. MAA is completely worried of getting their reputation spoiled because of this controversy.

Tollywood’s news channel ban on Hold for now

2

With some unusual incidents taking place in Tollywood, several meetings have been held and a final call has been taken to impose ban on selected channels who have been projecting celebrities in badlight. Tollywood bigwigs decided to stop providing content for the selected channels from today’s midnight. Mega family managed to bring out the pressure through various meets but the latest update says that the decision has been kept on hold as of now.

Speaking about this Naga Babu said “We had no plans of bringing ban on news channels and it is just a speculation. We have held meetings just to discuss about how Tollywood and celebrities get benefited. We haven’t taken any discussions against media. However it has come to our notice that some of the channels along with web portals have been spreading negative words about Allu Arjun’s upcoming film Naa Peru Surya. It’s quite shocking to see news saying that the film’s content and output failed to live up the expectations even before the release of the film”.

Breaking : Vertical split in Tollywood over news channels ban

After the casting couch issue sparked off a controversy, the personal abuse on Pawan Kalyan has shook the entire film industry. The constant airing of such objectionable content in top news channels of Telugu media has invited huge criticism from general public and industry bigwigs.

In what can be said as a crucial development for this issue, top names from Telugu film fraternity led by Megastar Chiranjeevi reportedly met a while back in Annapurna Studios to discuss about the recent happenings in industry. It is learnt that top stars like Nagarjuna, Ram Charan, NTR, Nani have attended the meeting. Several top producers were also present to discuss about the issue.

Reports suggest that after thoroughly having discussed about the recent issues, producer Allu Aravind pushed for a blanket ban of all movie related content to the three news channels which are facing the ire for targeting film industry. They have also discussed to give content only for 30 minutes entertainment programs.

However, not everyone present at the meet were on the same page with Allu Aravind’s proposal to ban giving content and ads to the three media channels. Many have opposed his decision and opined that it is better to ban all channels rather than only those three channels.

Producers like Aswini Dutt and representatives for star actor Nagarjuna were dead against Allu Aravind’s idea and opposed it. Sources that Allu Aravind is firm about his decision and decided to rely on social media promotions rather than TV media promotions from now onwards.

Also, it is exclusively learnt that Balakrishna is also dead against ban on TV9, ABN and TV5. Producer and prominent member of MAA, Gemini Kiran went to meet Balakrishna to discuss this issue with him. But, Balakrishna is highly reluctant and told in very strong terms that he doesn’t want a ban.

So, it looks like there is a stark split in opinions among Tollywood bigwigs over the media channels issue.
