Tollywood young sensation and sensational director Puri Jagannadh are teaming up for the first time for a sports drama that is laced with enough romance and action. Tentatively titled Fighter, the shoot of the film came to a halt last year because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Though most of the films resumed shoot, Fighter is yet to resume work which paved paths for several controversies.

Several gossip portals carried the news that the film is shelved due to the financial stress. Some of them even speculated that Vijay Devarakonda shifted his focus towards his upcoming movies. Going with the current update, the shoot of Fighter will resume from January 20th and will continue till the end of this month. A part of the film will be shot abroad and hundreds of foreign fighters will participate in the action stunts canned in this schedule.

Puri is currently planning the schedules of Fighter. Ananya Pandey is the leading lady and Puri Jagannadh, Karan Johar are the producers. An official release date of the film will be announced once the shoot of the film gets completed.

Two major action episodes are to be canned in the presence of foreign fighters which are quite crucial for the film. They may be shot in Bangkok if the situations are comfortable. Else the fighters would be imported from Thailand and will be shot in special sets. Puri is not in a mood to compromise and hurry up for these episodes. As of now, there is no clarity on the release date and the decision would be taken as per the completion of the shoot. Hero Vijay Deverakonda is a name for romantic entertainers. From ‘Pelli Choopulu’ to the last outing ‘World Famous Lover,’ the genre is the same and now Vijay is entering the space of commercial cinema with dashing director Puri Jagannadh.

But till date Vijay Deverakonda hasn’t spoken about this untitled flick and so there is some suspense. Opening up for the first time in an interview, Vijay said, “Film with Puri is my most commercial film but not one of those, I have grown up watching. This will be a whacky edgy commercial film and strange in its own way.”
“It is still my kind of film like when I heard it, I knew this is something I wanted to do as an actor. It’s not like that I doing a commercial film for the sake of doing this genre. It’s the box that clicked like as an actor, I want to do this and it happened to be very commercial because of the director’s sensibilities,” added Vijay.

On the preparation part of his role, Vijay said, “I have been training for his role for the past eight months now. In between I lost motivation but then I had to shut up myself and keep it going. My character in this film looks like someone can beat the shit out of the other guy.”

Lastly Vijay said Pokiri has to be his favourite Puri Jagannadh film.

Ismart Shankar happened to be a perfect comeback for veteran music composer Manisharma and the top composer is now occupied with a dozen interesting Telugu projects. He was speculated to compose the music for Puri Jagannadh and Vijay Devarakonda starrer Fighter. After Karan Johar’s entry, Fighter turned out to be a pan Indian film. To appeal to a wide section of the audience, Karan Johar suggested Puri Jagannadh to work with one of the top Bollywood music composers and Puri too gave his nod.

Manisharma is no longer associated with the film and the hunt for the right music composer is on. Karan Johar wanted Puri to work with multiple music composers but Puri is keen to finalize one of the top composers for Fighter. Things will be finalized soon after which the music sittings will commence. Puri is currently in Mumbai while Vijay Devarakonda is in Hyderabad. The next schedule of the film will commence in Hyderabad after a set would be erected in Ramoji Film City. Puri Jagannadh and Karan Johar are jointly producing Fighter which will release next year.

Puri Jagannadh and Vijay Devarakonda are joining hands with Fighter, an action thriller that presents Vijay Devarakonda as a kickboxer. The film has an ample number of action episodes and there is a requirement of foreign fighters. Some of the expert fighters are imported from foreign countries for the film and some crucial episodes are shot. They left their respective countries before the lockdown. Puri Jagannadh is now in hunt for the fighters to shoot some other episodes.

As it is impossible to import the foreigners back, the hunt for the local fighters is on to match the foreign fighters who completed major portions. If the unit fails to get the right foreign actors, Puri Jagannadh will have to rewrite some of the episodes in the film. Ananya Pandey plays the female lead and Puri Jagannadh, Karan Johar are the producers. Fighter releases next year.

Fighter even sounds like a universal title as the film is getting its release in multiple languages. During a recent interview, Charrme Kaur made it clear that Fighter is just the working title of the film and is not the original one.

She also clarified that an interesting title is locked for the film and it would be announced at the right time. Fighter is 40% complete and the next schedule of the film commences in Hyderabad soon. Ananya Pandey is the leading lady and Puri Connects, Dharma Productions are the producers. Fighter which was initially aimed for Dasara release would now have its release next year.
