Finally, Agent coming on OTT

Akhil Akkineni’s last film Agent was the costliest attempt of the actor and it ended up as one of the biggest duds of Telugu cinema. The film released on April 28th this year. There are lot of rumors about the film’s OTT release and it got delayed due to various reasons. The film is finally streaming on Sony LIV from September 29th. Clearing all the rumors, Agent will now be available on Sony LIV.

Akhil played the role of a spy in this stylish action entertainer directed by Surendar Reddy. AK Entertainments are the producers. Akhil is on a break and he will announce his next film in October.

Bhola Shankar Release trouble Makers

Vizag distributor Gayatri Satish acquired the entire theatrical rights of Agent for Telugu states and Karnataka for a record price of Rs 30 crores. The necessary agreements are done for the same told the distributor. Now he approached the court claiming that the producers are not responding to return the amount after he incurred huge losses. AK Entertainments responded saying that the agreement was a forged one in the court. Gayatri Satish now met the press and explained about the issue.

Gayatri Satish said that he wanted to recover the losses through their next film Bhola Shankar but the film was sold for a different buyer. He also stated that he had to approach the court as the producers are not responding after handing over the letter of undertaking. Gayatri Satish is demanding a stay on the release of Bhola Shankar till he recovers his invested amount. The issue will be heard in the court today.

Anil Sunkara to compensate for Agent Losses

Tollywood producer Anil Sunkara suffered a major setback with Agent. The film left the buyers and the producer in huge losses. The distributors wanted Anil Sunkara to compensate for the losses and he promised the same for them. He produced Sree Vishnu’s Samajavaragamana and the film is doing decent business. The film was released through the same distributors of Agent. Anil Sunkara promised that he would compensate for the losses of Agent through his upcoming films.

Anil Sunkara also expressed his confidence on Bhola Shankar, a mass entertainer that has Megastar Chiranjeevi in the lead role. The film is aimed for August 11th release. Anil Sunkara also produced Sundeep Kishan’s Bhairava Kona which is due for release. The veteran producer is not in a hurry now and he is keen to kick-start of all his upcoming films only after locking the bound script. Anil Sunkara will co-produce Adivi Sesh’s Goodachari 2.

More Delay in Agent OTT release

Akhil Akkineni’s Agent turned out to be one of the biggest disasters in the actor’s career, after the film released in April this year. The film was scheduled for digital streaming on May 19th but was delayed as director Surender Reddy started working on the edited version for the digital release. Then again, Agent was rescheduled for June 23rd release and now there seems to be further delay.

Sony Liv has acquired the digital rights of the film for a record price. The new date is yet to be locked and announced. The real reasons behind the series of delays in the digital release are unknown and the makers are tight-lipped for now. The spy thriller has Mammootty and Dina Moreo in other important roles and is produced by AK Entertainments. Akhil is yet to announce his next film officially. The film is expected to kick start in August with a debut director Anil Kumar.

Agent is a huge disaster at the box office with a worldwide closing share at 6.5 Cr. Theatrical rights of the film are valued at 36 Cr and the film hasn’t even recovered 20 percent of it. The closing gross of the film is a mere 14 Cr. The fact is that the Agent’s closing share is less than the Hero’s Debut film (Akhil: The Power of Jua) opening day share.

Ps2 has a below-par first week in the Telugu States with a gross of 11.6 Cr and distributor share at 5.40 Cr. In comparison, the first-week numbers of P2 are less than the weekend numbers of PS1. The numbers of PS2 worldwide in all languages are less than PS1 and it’s a shocker for a Sequel which is the Industry’s highest grosser.

Tough days for Surendar Reddy

Surendar Reddy is one of the stylish directors of Telugu cinema. He delivered big hits and huge flops too. There is a strong talk that Surendar Reddy never had a financial control on his projects. Agent is a huge misfire. The initial budget was Rs 40 crores and the final one mounted on to Rs 80 crores. Surendar Reddy joined the film as a working partner and wanted to share the profits. He soon took a U-Turn and pocketed Rs 11 crores as his fee for the film. Lack of bound script mounted up the budgets.

The entire film industry is aware that the shoot went on till April third week, days before the film’s release. Surendar Reddy was not much interested to release the film on April 28th and he wanted a month more. The makers were not ready and they mounted pressure on Surendar Reddy.

Surendar Reddy is also badly trolled for his work. There are talks that Anil Sunkara will lose close to Rs 40 crores for Agent. Surendar Reddy will have a tough time as no top actor will risk working with him. With so many complaints on him, even the mid-range and notable actors may not work with him soon. Surendar Reddy will have to work on a solid script before taking a call on his next. There are reports that Surendar Reddy met Allu Arjun but the project too may not happen as Allu Arjun is quite cautious about his upcoming projects. He will be working with directors like Trivikram and Sandeep Reddy Vanga in the coming days.

Hope Surendar Reddy will work on a solid script and make a strong comeback.

Akhil spent more than two years on this film. Amala Akkineni responded to the trolls on Agent and Akhil. She said that the film had flaws but she enjoyed the film thoroughly.

“I understand that trolling comes from inner insecurity and needs for achievement. I watched Agent yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed the film. Though, it had its flaws, if you watch with an open mind you’ll be amazed. I watched it in a power-packed theatre while 50% of the audience among are ladies who are mothers and grandmothers along with their husbands and sons. There were screams when the big action happened. I am sure, his next one will be bigger and better” told the statement of Amala.

Story:

RAW chief Mahadev alias Devil ( Mammootty) is on a special assignment to tackle the International syndicate led by God ( Dino Morea). Ramakrishna alias Rikky alias Wild (Akhil Akkineni) is an ethical hacker whose ambition is to work for RAW. Ramakrishna uses all his tricks to get attention from Mr. Mahadev but fails largely. At some point Mahadev hires RK on special task to nab the international don. Rest of the story is why in first place the GOD turned badass? how he was confronted by ‘Wild’.

Analysis:

Core point of AGENT has slight resemblance to recent hindi filmPathaan. In both films Ex-RAW agents turn international mafia kingpin to unleash mayhem against India.Root cause for their change is also same in both films.In addition, in both films the heroes are the current RAW agents deployed on a foreign mission. Coming to the content, it is very amateurish right from the word go. When an international spy film is attempted, it takes a lot of budget. In this film the production values are pretty good but the story and direction are not up to the mark . Though cinematic liberty, many of the scenes make you cringe. The songs placement is unarguably worst in the recent years

Akhil has tried his best in the dual shaded Rikky role. The amateurish characterization played spoilsport to his efforts. Sakshi Vaidya as Akhil’s love interest has negligible role in the film. Mammootty as RAW chief is good. Ex- Model Dino Morea is a misfit as mafia don.

  • Poor Script and Irresponsible Direction

Verdict: AGENT film has a weak script double down with a bad direction and topped with worst music. Everything went wrong with this farcical action film. Akhil’s characterization backfires, Dino Morea as the villain is a miscast. It is difficult to sit through this silly film.
