Naidu turns 72, gears up for another poll battle

As he turned 72 on Wednesday, former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu is gearing up for another electoral battle in his long chequered career.

Nearly three years after suffering his worst-ever electoral defeat, the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief appears to be down but not out as he looks to infuse new energy into the party for the 2024 poll battle.

Leading the charge against Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy-led YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) government, the veteran leader aims to make another comeback to power.

Though facing perhaps the toughest challenge of his four-decade-long political career, Naidu continues to be the tallest opposition figure who can take on Jagan Mohan Reddy, a leader 22 years younger to him.

As the leader of opposition in Andhra Pradesh Assembly, he is leading from front the fight against the ‘misrule’ of YSRCP. Backed by a strong cadre at the grassroots level, he is helming the TDP’s fight against the YSRCP government’s ‘corruption’, ‘anti-people policies’ and ‘atrocities’.

With two years to go for the polls and Jana Sena led by actor politician Pawan Kalyan and BJP yet to have a strong presence on the ground, Naidu seems to be the only one who can give Jagan Mohan Reddy a run for his money.

On his 72nd birthday, Naidu said that he is working to restore the glory of Telugu people. He visited Kanakadurga temple in Vijayawada, seeking blessings and strength to carry on what he calls the fight on behalf of people.

Thanking people for celebrating his birthday, Naidu assured them that he would carry forward the party by working as per their expectations. Determined to be steadfast in this fight, he is confident of a victory.

Political observers say 2024 could be a do or die battle for him. If he makes a comeback as the chief minister, he can groom his son Nara Lokesh as his political successor but if he fails, it could well be the end of the road for him.

Naidu’s four-decade-long career saw his political pendulum swinging wildly from left to right. In 2019, he exercised even his last option — aligning with the Congress but this gamble could not save him.

He not only lost power in the state but became irrelevant in the national politics as his friend-turned-rival Narendra Modi retained power at the Centre with a huge majority.

Desperate to stop Modi, Naidu was holding extensive deliberations with regional parties across the country to forge an anti-BJP alliance. He wanted to achieve what he did in 1996, when as the convenor of the United Front (UF) he brought together regional parties to prop up the government of the third alternative. In 1999, he donned a similar role for the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA).

A shrewd politician, Naidu was also seen as rank opportunist as he aligned with the BJP, apparently to ride on the Vajpayee wave. He succeeded in retaining power, which he got in 1995 after leading a revolt against his father-in-law and TDP founder N.T. Rama Rao.

Then known as the poster boy of new economic reforms, a reformist and a tech-savvy leader, Naidu mastered the skills of doing business with any formation at the Centre, irrespective of its ideology.

After losing power to his bete noire Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy (YSR) in 2004 following a record 9-year stint as Andhra Pradesh chief minister, Naidu admitted his priorities were lop-sided which led to the neglect of agriculture in the state.

So he promised a slew of freebies in the 2009 elections, but the people remained unconvinced and gave YSR a fresh mandate.

The emergence of Narendra Modi as the prime ministerial candidate in 2014 offered Naidu a chance to revive his political fortunes.

He not only joined the NDA once again but by campaigning with Modi, he succeeded in storming to power in the truncated state of Andhra Pradesh, as people preferred him, apparently for his experience in developing Hyderabad as a tech hub.

As a leader who always enjoyed the role of a kingmaker and extracted his pound of flesh from the government at the Centre, Naidu was uncomfortable in the new dispensation where Modi had absolute majority.

Though facing post-bifurcation challenges like lack of state capital and poor finances, he had no option, but to quietly accept whatever was doled out to the state.

However, it was when YSR’s son and the chief of the YSRCP Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy started targetting him for his compromise over the Special Category Status (SCS) that Naidu realised how he was losing the ground to the opposition. In 2018, he pulled out of the NDA government accusing Modi of ‘betrayal’.

From a great admirer of Modi, Naidu soon turned into his worst critic and even joined hands with the Congress, his party’s sworn enemy of 35 years. This was Naidu’s biggest political misadventure.

His experiment ended in a disaster with the Congress-led United People’s Alliance (UPA) biting the dust.

Ironically, Naidu began his political career with the Congress party. At the age of 28, he was elected to Assembly from Chandragiri constituency in his native district Chittoor and became a minister in the state cabinet (1980-83)

When his father-in-law and popular actor N. T. Rama Rao floated TDP, Naidu was with the Congress and had even thrown a challenge at the former. The TDP wave in 1983 nearly wiped out Congress and Naidu too failed to re-elect to the Assembly.

Later, NTR admitted Naidu into TDP and since then he never looked back. Making a modest beginning in NTR dominant TDP, he climbed to the position of party general secretary.

In 1995, a few months after NTR led TDP back to power with a landslide victory, Naidu staged a revolt against father-in-law to become chief minister. NTR’s children backed Naidu as they were also unhappy over growing interference by his second wife Lakshmi Parvathi in administration and party affairs.

NTR, who accused Naidu of back-stabbing him, died of cardiac arrest in January 1996, dramatically changing the state’s political scene.

Since then Naidu has been heading TDP. He became the longest serving chief minister of undivided Andhra Pradesh (1995-2004). A decade later when Andhra Pradesh was bifurcated to carve out Telangana as a new state, he made a new beginning as the first chief minister of the residuary state of Andhra Pradesh.

Public resentment rising against Jagan rule, says Naidu

TDP president and former Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu advised the YSRCP Government to stop filing false cases and start reducing financial burdens on the people.

Naidu said that the people would not have any relief from tax burdens if the protesting TDP leaders are implicated in fabricated cases. The ruling party would not be able to eliminate public resentment by victimising those taking part in the TDP ‘Badude Badudu’ (squeeze) protests.

The TDP chief condemned the cases filed against party Telugu Yuvatha leader Chinna Mohan and 10 other activists at Kummarigunta village in Punganur assembly segment in Chittoor district. They were wrongly implicated just for raising their voice against the increased taxes and current charges.

Naidu said the ruling party leaders attacked the TDP cadres first and then filed reverse atrocities cases against them. The Government should immediately lift those cases and turn its focus on resolving people’s problems.

Chandrababu Naidu said the YSRCP Government should at least realise how the people were suffering on account of tax burdens. Instead of solving people’s problems, false cases were filed against the TDP protesters in the assembly segment of Minister Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy.

The TDP chief lamented that the Government policies have made the lives of the people very difficult.

Naidu sets eye on NRIs ahead of 2024 elections

TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu had set his eyes on keeping the NRIs together with the party ahead of the 2024 general elections. He had already vowed to return to the AP Assembly only as chief minister. He did not attend the budget session keeping his word. Though his party MLAs attended the session, they were suspended every day.

Now, being outside the Assembly, Chandrababu Naidu wants to win the elections and form the government to be present in the House. Even if he wins but fails to form the government in the 2024 elections, going by his pledge, he may not enter the House.

With all these issues, Chandrababu Naidu is now focusing on the resourceful membership of the NRIs to support the party in the next elections. He had created a dedicated website – www.nritdp.com – for the NRIs to associate with the party.

Chandrababu Naidu had asked the NRIs settled in various countries to get their names registered with the portal and be part of the TDP. The NRIs could also post their activities on the portal and stay connected to the party leadership.

NRIs have played an important role in the party’s victory in 2014 elections. They have also played a crucial role during the 2019 elections. Several NRIs have stayed back in the state only to help the TDP leadership in the electioneering.

It is more important for the party to win the 2024 elections as Chandrababu Naidu has to enter the Assembly. Hence, every individual is important to the party. In fact, this is the reason why Chandrababu Naidu had already created a separate wing of young IT professionals. He created iTDP, in which hundreds of IT professionals are working.

Chandrababu govt to change new districts

TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu said that his government would change some of the new districts to suit the requirements of the people. He said that the reorganisation of the districts was not done scientifically. He accused the present government of reorganising the districts to serve the political interests of the YSR Congress Party.

Chandrababu Naidu observed that scientific study was not done before publishing the draft notification of the districts. He said that the officials who executed the work did not visit the districts, did not meet the people to take their views.

He also criticised the government for ignoring the representations given by the people and the objections raised by them. He felt that the government should have held an all-party meeting and consulted the political parties before draft notification.

He found fault with the government reorganising the districts based on the Parliament and Assembly constituencies without following the existing structure of the districts and the aspirations of the people.

The TDP chief said that his government would make some changes after careful study. He said that some areas were included in new districts without taking into consideration the association of the people with those districts and the areas.

He felt that the districts and the district headquarters should have been decided based on the aspirations of the people and the representations given by them. He wondered whether the government had made any attempt to understand the attachment of the people to certain areas.

The TDP chief asserted that his party would come back to power in the 2024 general elections and he would form the government. He said that people are slowly turning against the government because of the failures of Jagan Mohan Reddy in the last three years in developing the state.

He said that Jagan had asked for one chance and people have given him. There would be no second chance to Jagan, he asserted.

Farewell budget for Naidu, says Jagan

Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy said that the 2022-23 budget presented by this government was a welfare budget. He further said the budget was also a farewell budget to TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu and the media that supports.

Jagan said that the budget for the last three years had reflected his Navarathnalu, which was a compilation of the promises made to the people during the 2019 elections and his historic padayatra.

He said that every family in the state had benefited in one form or the other during the last three years and they are with the YSR Congress.

If all these claims are natural in politics, his declaration of Eenadu, Andhra Jyothi and TV5 as his enemies and terming the budget as farewell to these media houses is something to be analysed. These media houses have intensified their anti-Jagan campaign from the day that the chief minister had named them as his enemies in his party MLAs meeting.

Even in the 12 days of the budget session which concluded on March 25, Jagan Mohan Reddy was seen targeting these media houses more than Chandrababu Naidu. He spoke over four to five times during this session and it was all about targeting the media.

It was before the 2004 general elections, his father late Dr Y S Rajasekhar Reddy had started his campaign against those two papers – Eenadu and Andhra Jyothi. He spoke openly naming these two papers as his rivals and his election speeches went well among the people.

It looks as if Jagan Mohan Reddy is following his father’s style in naming the media houses and winning the election. It is to be seen if it works for Jagan too as it worked for his father in 2004 elections.

Chandrababu dares Jagan to seek mandate on three capitals

TDP chief and former chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu had asked chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy to seek fresh mandate on three capitals plan. Criticising the government and the chief minister on the debate in the assembly on three capitals and finding fault with the high court, the TDP chief said that the YSR Congress rule in the state reminds people of the Kouravas rule in Mahabharata.

The TDP chief said that Jagan Mohan Reddy had backed the Amaravati plan when he was in opposition. He said Jagan did not oppose Amaravati and had favoured the place as it is centrally located in the state. However, he regretted that Jagan had destroyed Amaravati after winning the 2019 elections.

He further said that the high court had constitutionally reviewed the government’s plans on the capital and had given its ruling with a direction to the state government to complete the capital works in Amaravati. Finding fault with the court is undemocratic, the TDP chief said.

Chandrababu Naidu wanted the chief minister to resign from the Assembly and go to the people once again on three capitals slogan. He said that Jagan Mohan Reddy should tell people about the three capitals issue and seek fresh mandate.

He accused Jagan of spreading lies in the Assembly on every issue. He said Jagan had also failed to develop the state. He said Jagan had started his governance with destruction of Praja Vedika and had built nothing in the state in the last three years.

Chandrababu’s family donates Rs 30 lakh to TTD on grandson’s birthday

Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s family has donated Rs 30 lakh to Tirumala temple on the occasion of his grandson Nara Devaansh’s birthday on Monday.

Naidu’s wife Nara Bhuvaneshwari made the donation on behalf of her grandson on his seventh birthday.

The donation has been made towards the expenses for the breakfast, lunch and dinner for devotees under a one day donation scheme of SV Annaprasadam Trust of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD).

Nara Devaansh’s name was displayed as the full day donor at Matrusri Tarigonda Vengamambha Complex Hall.

Devaansh is son of Nara Lokesh, the only son of Chandrababu Naidu and Bhuvaneshwari.

Lokesh is general secretary of Telugu Desam Party (TDP) headed by his father and is also a member of Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council.

Lokesh took to Twitter to greet his son. “At such a tender age, it surprises me to see you deeply care for family, friends and everyone you know. Imbibing this quality is a gift you must cherish and carry throughout your life. Keep adding sparkle to the lives you touch!! Happy Birthday Nara Devaansh!,” wrote Lokesh.

Lokesh is married to Brahmini, daughter of popular actor N. Balakrishna, who is brother of Bhuvaneshwari.

Is PK behind Pegasus charge against Chandrababu?

West Bengal chief minister and Trinamool Congress chief Mamatha Benerji had alleged that AP government during Chandrababu Naidu regime had purchased Pegasus spyware. She made this comment in the West Bengal Assembly.

TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu and his son and TDP general secretary Nara Lokesh have denied, separately. Lokesh was the minister for IT during the TDP regime when Chandrababu Naidu was chief minister. The TDP also circulated a reply from the State police under right to information that Pegasus was never purchased by the State government.

However, Mamatha Benerji’s allegation is widely circulated in state politics, with the ruling YSR Congress asking for a probe.

It is everyone’s knowledge that Mamatha Benerji was a good friend of Chandrababu Naidu for several years. They rallied together before the 2019 general election against BJP and Narendra Modi. While this being fact, one wonders why did Mamatha make such an allegation against her friend?

The answer is the role of political strategist Prashant Kishore, who is currently working with Mamatha Benerji in West Bengal politics. PK, as the strategist is known, had earlier worked for YSR Congress party and its chief Jagan Mohan Reddy.

Thus Chandrababu Naidu is the rival to Jagan Mohan Reddy and to Prashant Kishore too and now being a friend of Mamatha, it is alleged that PK had prompted Mamatha to make the allegation against Chandrababu Naidu.

While it is not known how far this charge is correct, the political circles in AP are discussing the issue widely. Everything is fair in love and war. So is politics where everything is fair. Even a baseless allegation against the rival is fair in politics.

Naidu also denies Mamatha’s charge on Pegasus

TDP supremo N Chandrababu had denied that his government had ever purchased the spyware. He responded to the charge levelled by West Bengal chief minister Mamatha Benerji that Andhra Pradesh government during Chandrababu Naidu’s regime had purchased the Pegasus. She said that she had an offer to buy the spyware but did not go for it. She reportedly made this statement during her budget speech in the West Bengal Assembly early this week.

Chandrababu Naidu’s son Nara Lokesh was first to respond to the allegation as he was the minister for information technology when his father was the chief minister between 2014 and 2019.

The TDP chief, who interacted with the party leaders on Friday from his party office said that the allegation was baseless. The TDP had also circulated a reply of the State police to an RTI activist in which the DGP office said that they have ever purchased Pegasus.

Surprisingly, all political parties, including the ruling YSR Congress, are silent on the allegation against Naidu and his government. The YSR Congress leaders who leave no opportunity to target the TDP and its chief Chandrababu Naidu did not use it for the reasons known to them.

However, Chandrababu Naidu gave an explanation to his party leaders and brushed aside the allegation. Interestingly, Naidu and Mamatha are good friends and they have worked together in the 2019 general elections against the BJP-led NDA. While Mamatha continues to work for a national alternative to the NDA and UPA, Naidu had become silent and inactive in the national politics after his defeat in the 2019 general elections.

It is not known why Mamatha had made the allegation against her friend without any provocation.

Arrack deaths are murders by govt, says Chandrababu Naidu

Telugu Desam Party (TDP) president and former chief minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Monday called on the families of 18 people who died allegedly after consuming illicitly distilled liquor in West Godavari district in the last one week.

Naidu met the families of the victims in Jangareddygudem town and gathered details from them about the incident.

Accompanied by some senior TDP leaders, Naidu visited the houses of the victims and consoled their families.

Naidu travelled by road from his residence at Undavalli in Amaravati to Jangareddygudem. People welcomed the leader of the opposition at several places enroute.

The TDP leader called the deaths of 18 people as murders by the government. He demanded that the government own responsibility for the incident and announce ex-gratia for the families of the victims.

Naidu said though the affected families have come out with details of how they lost their near and dear ones due to the illicitly distilled liquor, the government is claiming that they died due to ill-health.

Families of the victims claimed that they died after consumption of spurious contrymade liquor. Within hours after consuming the liquor, the victims complained of giddiness, vomiting, stomach ache and diarrohea. The victims were aged between 35 and 65 years.

Officials of the Revenue, Police, Excise, Special Enforcement Bureau (SEB), Medical and Health departments conducted an inquiry into the cause of deaths.

According to officials, they died due to different reasons. They were suspected to be suffering from health problems like cardiac ailments and post-Covid complications.

TDP leaders alleged that ruling YSRCP leaders were carrying out illegal arrack and ganja selling activities. They expressed concern that cheap liquor was proving very harmful and taking a heavy toll on the health and lives of the people consuming it.

Meanwhile, minister for municipal administration Botsa Satyanarayana alleged that the opposition is trying to politicize the incident. He said the deaths in Jangareddygudem were not due to illicit liquor. He said such an incident would have led to a large number of deaths.

The minister slammed Naidu and other TDP leaders for making false propaganda on the issue. He, however, said the government is ready to make a statement in the Assembly on the issue.

Jagan targets Naidu while he spoke in the Assembly

Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy targeted his rival and opposition leader N Chandrababu Naidu during his address in the Assembly on Thursday. He spoke on the motion of thanks to the Governor’s address to the joint session of Assembly on the first day of the budget session.

Jagan Mohan Reddy came down heavily on the TDP for protesting during the Governor’s address and called them irresponsible opposition. He felt that the opposition TDP should have respected the Governor giving respect to his age and the position he was holding.
The chief minister equally targeted the media, naming them on the floor of the house and branding them serving the interests of Chandrababu Naidu rather than the interests of the people. He chided the media houses taking strop exception accusing them of mortgaging the press freedom to the TDP chief.

Jagan Mohan Reddy listed out every programme of his government one after the other and in every programme, he drew comparison with the TDP regime. In every scheme he mentioned in the speech, he blamed the TDP chief and the media.

He looked as if he was prepared for a direct and hard-hitting verbal war with Chandrababu Naidu and the media in the days to come. Two years ahead of the 2024 general elections, Jagan Mohan Reddy sounded clear on his rivals and he named them without hesitation.

If his speech in the Assembly is any indication, it is clear that Jagan Mohan Reddy would be going to the people declaring war against Chandrababu Naidu, Ramoji Rao of Eenadu, Radhakrishna of Andhra Jyothi and Naidu of TV5.

It is to be seen how far he would succeed in this battle and how strong people would support him in the 2024 general elections.

Naidu predicts early polls in AP, claims TDP victory

TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu predicted that chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy would go for early elections. He further asserted that the TDP would win with a big majority if elections are held at any time from now.

Chandrababu Naidu reacted after Jagan Mohan Reddy’s repeated speeches in the Assembly, cabinet and the International Women’s Day celebrations. He said that Jagan Mohan Reddy was following what TRS chief Chandrasekhar Rao had done in Telangana going for early polls in his first term.

The TDP chief said that Jagan Mohan Reddy was losing the confidence of the people with his failures in administration. He alleged that Jagan Mohan Reddy had ruined the State’s economy in the last three years because of his inexperience.

Naidu further said that people of the state were repenting for having voted for Jagan Mohan Reddy. People have considered Jagan Mohan Reddy’s request for one term and have voted for the YSR Congress in the 2019 general elections.

The TDP chief said that the state had failed on all fronts in the last three years with Jagan Mohan Reddy messing up with the administration. The law and order in the state was completely ignored and people were suffering with the police excesses besides the activities of the anti-social elements.

The TDP chief made an appeal to the rank and file of the TDP to be ready to face the elections in the state and restore democracy. He also asserted that the state had to be put on the development track once again as Jagan had derailed it.

Chandrababu Naidu faces constant threat to life, says TDP

Andhra Pradesh’s opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) has said that its leader N. Chandrababu Naidu faces constant threat and demanded round-the-clock security to the party’s central office located at Mangalagiri in Amaravati.

TDP politburo member Varla Ramaiah on Wednesday wrote a letter to the Director General of Police (DGP) in this regard.

He stressed the need for enhanced security at the TDP office as party’s national president and former Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, MPs, MLAs, former ministers and others were taking part in day to day programmes there.

Chandrababu Naidu has been an NSG Z plus protectee and has constant threat from the anti-social elements and extremists, he wrote.

Similarly, leaders and other dignitaries visiting the party office, from different regions of the state and country have serious threats from extremists and anti-social elements, he said.

Ramaiah pointed out that on October 19, 2021, some alleged to have been the followers of ruling YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) attacked and ransacked the TDP central office. They also attempted to kill the party activists, who tried to resist the attack.

He said prior to this attack, there used to be 24-hour armed security to the office. This was surprisingly withdrawn without giving any prior information or notice to the TDP office.

Varla Ramaiah said the miscreants stated to be the followers of the ruling YSRCP have dared enough to attack TDP central office even though it is located in close proximity to the DGP office.

Naidu gives screenplay to his MLAs, MLCs for budget session

TDP chief and opposition leader N Chandrababu Naidu is giving a clear screenplay for his party MLAs and MLCs for the current budget session. They acted as guided in the House during the Governor’s address to the joint session on the first day.

With over 40 years of experience in politics, over 14 years of experience as chief minister and 8 years of experience as Leader of Opposition, Chandrababu Naidu is well-versed with Legislative politics. His master stroke in January 2019 in the Legislative Council, gave no breathing time for chief minister Jagan Mohan Reddy and his party MLAs.

It was the greatest masterstroke that Jagan Mohan Reddy could not take when Naidu steered his MLCs in the Legislative Council to refer the three capitals bills to the select committee. The TDP had 33-members’ strength in the Legislative Council. Besides, the Council chairman post too was in the TDP’s hands those days.

Though, the TDP’s strength had come down in Legislative Council and his strength fell to 20 in Legislative Assembly, Naidu manages to have greater mileage whenever the Assembly is in session. This time, Naidu himself is not attending the session as he pledged to come back to the House only as chief minister.

With a lot of time on hand and able to watch the proceedings live, Naidu is guiding his MLAs and MLCs to corner the ruling party in every sitting.

The first day of the budget session was a real shocker for Jagan Mohan Reddy, who did not expect the TDP leaders to raise slogans against the Governor in the House, when the Governor was addressing the joint session. The chief minister could not hide his anger and had burst out at TDP deputy leader K Atchennaidu who attended the Business Advisory Committee meeting.

TDP finally decides to attend AP budget session without Naidu

The opposition TDP had finally decided to attend the budget sessions of the AP Assembly, starting from March 7.

Though the party had initially thought of boycotting the session along with the party chief and former chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu, it had changed its mind and had decided to join the session.

The decision was taken at the virtual meeting of the Telugu Desam Legislature Party meeting held on Saturday.

The MLAs and the MLCs held a prolonged discussion on the issue and even thought of holding mock sessions outside the Assembly, preferably in Velagapudi area. However, on the advice given by party senior leader and former minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu, the TDLP took the final call to attend the session.

Ramakrishnudu said that the budget session is crucial for the state and as opposition, the TDP would get a greater advantage to expose the financial failures of the YSR Congress government. He told every member from the Legislative Assembly and the Legislative Council as well, to speak on the financial issues, the budget allocations and expose the ruling YSR Congress.

Yanamala also told the TDLP members that the government had drowned the state in debt and it was the responsibility of the opposition to expose the financial mess created by the YSR Congress.

It was only after these suggestions, the TDLP had decided to attend the session, make use of every opportunity to expose the ruling party.

The TDP currently has 20 members in Assembly with three defections, and 15 members in the Legislative Council. Its floor leader Chandrababu Naidu would be absent for the session, while Yanamala Ramakrishnudu, TDP floor leader in the council, would be playing key role this time in the upper house.

TDP hails High Court order on Amaravati

Andhra Pradesh’s main opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) on Thursday hailed the High Court verdict on Amaravati as the state capital.

The TDP Politburo meeting, presided over by party President and former Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, discussed the High Court’s latest verdict and described it as a big blow to the 3 capitals plan of the Jagan Mohan Reddy government.

Briefing media about the decisions of the Politburo, former minister Kalva Srinivasulu said by directing the government to implement the CRDA Act, the court has upheld the merit and value of the Act passed by the previous government. It welcomed the court’s decision to review the future progress of capital city works.

Srinivasulu said the Jagan Reddy regime has “destroyed the future of the whole state by going ahead with its ill-conceived Capital shifting plan in the past three years”.

“As a result, over 136 institutions have stopped investing despite agreements reached with the previous TDP government led by Chandrababu Naidu,” he said, adding that the state also lost Rs 12,000 crore to Rs 13,000 crore revenue from Amaravati.

The Politburo deplored how Rs 2 lakh crore worth assets and 10,000 acres government land in Amaravati Capital turned into non-performing assets. The court judgement once again made it clear that nobody would be able to shift Amaravati Capital. It was conceived and developed to meet the aspirations of Andhra Pradesh people and in accordance with the Reorganisation Act.

The TDP leaders hailed the latest CBI probe into the Y.S. Vivekananda Reddy’s murder and slammed the CM and his family’s media for trying to suppress real facts even now. From the beginning, all fingers were pointing towards YSRCP MP Avinash Reddy. But CM Jagan and his associates continued to weave new and false stories as part of a politically motivated and selfish agenda, it said.

The Politburo urged the CBI to hasten its investigation and arrest the real culprits as early as possible. The manner in which Jagan Reddy and his coterie tried to malign and implicate Chandrababu Naidu in the Vivekananda Reddy murder conspiracy was highly condemnable.

Majority TDP leaders wanted their party to boycott the Assembly as the ruling YSRCP was not allowing democratic debates and not listening to what the opposition had to say on any subject of public concern. Under the leadership of Jagan Reddy, the AP Assembly has been turned into a ‘Kuru Sabha’. A final decision on attending the House would be taken at the TDLP meeting.

The TDP Politburo condemned the YSRCP regime for cancelling Anna Canteens and over 35 welfare schemes implemented by the Chandrababu Naidu led government.

Meanwhile, other opposition parties BJP, Jana Sena, CPI and CPI-M have welcomed the court verdict.

BJP leader and former Union Minister D. Purandareswari said BJP remained committed to development of Amaravati as the state capital.

She recalled that Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid foundation stone for Amaravati and the Centre also released Rs 2,500 crore for providing basic amenities in Amaravati region.

The BJP leader also listed out various road development projects cleared by the Centre to improve connectivity to Amaravati.

It’s election consultants’ time in Telugu states, Cong, Chandrababu rope in same consultant

With election fever catching up like a cold, the political parties are now seen running after political consultants. Political consultants of various varieties are now being recruited to work for different parties. Even parties like the TRS and the Congress, which spoke derisively about the political strategists, are now falling head over heels inviting them to help win the elections.

While the TRS has latched on to the Team PK, the BJP is working with an organization called “Nation With Namo.” The Congress, which had in the past said that every Congress worker was equal to ten PKs, too is running after consultants now. The Congress is said to have approached former PK-associate Sunil Kanugolu. Sunil, who originally hails from Vijayawada, but shifted base to Chennai.

He has earlier worked for KTR in 2018 elections and took care of the social media, which played a significant role in the TRS victory. Sunil is likely to advise Revanth Reddy for the 2023 elections. Meanwhile, Chandrababu Naidu in neighbouring AP too, is said to have held consultations with Sunil on helping him out in the 2024 elections.

Till now, Chandrababu Naidu depended on poll wizard and former PK Associate Robin Sharma for poll strategies. But, post-2014 elections, repeated reversals in Tirupati, Budvel and in the local body polls. Meanwhile, Sharmila in Telangana too is banking on poll wizard Priya, who too is a former Prashant Kishore associate. So, it’s election consultants’ time in both the Telugu states.

CBI probe exposes YSRCP leaders in Vivekananda Reddy murder case: TDP chief

TDP national President and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has alleged that the Jagan Mohan Reddy government was badly exposed following what he called shocking revelations in the CBI probe in the Y.S. Vivekananda Reddy murder case.

Naidu claimed that it was clearly established that YSRCP MP Y.S. Avinash Reddy was the first person to visit the murder spot and to tamper with the evidence. Though facts were revealed about the YSRCP leaders’ involvement, CM’s Advisor Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy was wrongly saying that the CBI was targetting the victims.

The TDP chief said the ruling YSRCP leaders were expecting all sections of the people to blindly believe like sheep in whatever they would say and do. “How could Sajjala say that the YSRCP leaders were the victims in the Viveka murder? It was because of his daughter’s court petition that the CBI probed and cracked the Viveka murder mystery,” he said.

Naidu blamed the present YSRCP leaders for the brutal killing of Paritala Ravindra and the subsequent elimination of witnesses in that murder case. They also tried to kill their party MP Raghu Rama Raju but the courts saved him. The YSRCP rule was more horrifying than that of terrorists and demons. Jagan Reddy was aiming to perpetrate his misrule forever through a reign of terror.

Chandrababu Naidu recalled how DGP Gautham Sawang was unceremoniously removed after misusing his services for harassing political opponents. The DGP said in the beginning there was no ganja trade in the city but he himself ordered burning of Rs 1,500 crore of ganja. It was after the TDP exposed the CM’s ‘use and throw’ mindset that the transferred DGP was now reportedly given posting in the APPSC.

The TDP chief said that their party strongly protested against the appointment of tainted jailor Varuna Reddy at Kadapa Central Prison. Just like the witnesses in the Paritala Ravi murder, they hatched conspiracies to kill witnesses in the Viveka murder. Following the TDP’s objections, Varuna Reddy was transferred out of Kadapa.

Naidu said in the murder case of his own uncle, Jagan Reddy first petitioned the court for a CBI probe but later withdrew his petition saying there was no need for that. The YSRCP leaders first reported the Viveka death as a natural death due to heart attack but were forced to change their story.

Chandrababu Naidu deplored that the Jagan regime targetted and tried to suppress the employees just like he was suppressing political opponents. When the NGOs and teachers’ Chalo Vijayawada became a success, the CM became angry and sent Sawang home. The TDP would not support what Sawang did in the past but his humiliation was yet another testimony to the absence of rule of law in Andhra Pradesh, he added.

Will Chandrababu bell the enigmatic ‘Ganta’?

Will former minister and Vizag North MLA Ganta Srinivasa Rao attend Friday’s key meeting of the Telugu Desam Party or not? Will he stay back in the TDP or will he look for green pastures? Will TDP give up on Ganta if he skips the meeting and find a replacement to lead the party in his constituency? These are the questions that are being hotly debated in the TDP circles in Vizag district.

TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu has called for a key meeting of some important party functionaries at Amaravati on Friday. Only 12 persons were sent invitations and Ganta Srinivasa Rao is one among them. But, Ganta has largely been keeping away from the party activities for the last three years. He did not join the protests even when Chandrababu Naidu’s wife Bhuvaneswari was insulted in the assembly.

There were also reports that Ganta tried to join the YSRCP, but was not exactly welcomed there. Similarly, there was a buzz that he was negotiating with the BJP, but nothing came out. He has sent his resignation from the AP Assembly on the issue of Vizag Steel Plant privatization, but never pressed for its acceptance. Of late, he is busy with Kapu politics. In view of all these, whether he would attend the meeting or not has assumed importance.

TDP sources say that if Ganta skips the meeting, Chandrababu Naidu might appoint another incharge for Vizag North so that preparations could be on for the 2024 elections. Hence, all eyes are on what Ganta Srinivasa Rao will do on Friday.

Chandrababu picks Prashant Kishore’s associate to advise TDP

Chandrababu has got a new political spin doctor for himself. Until recently, he had former Prashant Kishore acolyte Robin Sharma as his political strategist. But after the Tirupati bypoll debacle, he felt Robin Sharma is unable to revive the party and removed him. Now, he reportedly got Sunil, another former member of the Team Prashant Kishor.

Chandrababu is yet to appoint incharges for several assembly constituencies. Sources say that he is looking for young and dynamic faces. He is said to be considering several names for the purpose. He wants people who can lead the party in the coming two years Hence, Chandrababu Naidu has given a call to the senior party workers to be prepared for sacrifices and bring to the fore young faces

Sources say Chandrababu Naidu is unhappy with the surveys done by the Robin Sharma team. He felt that they were way too off the mark. He has now asked Sunil to conduct the surveys for the party and provide a real time assessment of the political situation.

Now the party workers and leaders have no idea of the survey methodology and strategies of Sunil. There is a certain amount of worry about how he works. There are also some questions about recruiting Sunil as he is a former PK associate and PK himself is working for YS Jagan. Several people are questioning the rationale of picking someone who is a former associate of PK.
