Sundeep Kishan to team up with Netflix

Sundeep Kishan announced a series of films after the success of Ooru Peru Bhairavakona. The actor will soon work with Trinadha Rao Nakkina in a comic entertainer and it will be produced by AK Entertainments. As per the update, Sundeep Kishan has signed a web series that will be produced by Netflix. Tillu Square director Mallik Ram will direct this interesting project and the shooting formalities will start during the second half of this year. The pre-production work is currently under process.

Sundeep Kishan is also playing an important role in Dhanush’s 50th film Rayan which is under shoot. Dhanush is the director and Sun Pictures are the producers. Sundeep Kishan hiked his fee after Ooru Peru Bhairavakona. He is also expected to announce more projects this year.

Netflix adds new Subscribers in Fourth Quarter

A rare achievement for Rana Naidu

Victory Venkatesh and his nephew Rana Daggubati teamed up for Rana Naidu, a web series that is produced by Netflix. The second season is getting ready and the shoot commences next year after the response for the first season was overwhelming. On Tuesday, Netflix announced the straming performance of the 18,000 plus shows available on the platform. The report revealed the most viewed titles along with the streaming hours for the period of January 2023 till June 2023.

The Night Agent, an American thriller topped the list globally with 812.1 million hours of viewing. Rana Naidu is the only Indian series that is placed in the top 400 and it is positioned at 336. No other Indian films or web series made it to the top 400 as per the reports from Netflix. The cuss words in Rana Naidu received criticism from the family crowds but Rana Naidu is one of the most popular titles of India.

Netflix Ends Password Sharing In India

Netflix announced the end of password sharing in India on Thursday. Netflix is expecting a boost in its revenue after password sharing end.

Netflix said, “Everyone living in that household can use Netflix wherever they are – at home, on the go, on holiday – and take advantage of new features like Transfer Profile and Manage Access and Devices,”

As per Netflix, they already initiated an email for the users, who are sharing passwords. The members can go on holiday and take advantage of new features through Transfer Profile and Manage access and devices.

Netflix also wrote in their official statement, “We recognize that our members have many entertainment choices. It is why we continue to invest heavily in a wide variety of new films and TV shows – so whatever your taste, mood or language and whoever you are watching with, there is always something satisfying to watch on Netflix.”

Nearly 6 million subscribers around the globe will be affected by this. Password sharing will be exempted for the immediate families and apart from that password sharing will be restricted.

Netflix recently ended its first quarter with a profit of $ 1.5 B and 238 million new subscribers. The end of password sharing is expected to boost more revenue.

From ‘Bhola Shankar’ to ‘Dasara’, Netflix announces 16-film slate of Telugu releases

A galaxy of stars feature in a 16-strong Telugu-language film slate that will bow on Netflix after their theatrical release, reports ‘Variety’. Several of the titles will also be made available on the service in Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada as well.

Mahesh Babu headlines Haarika & Hassine Creations’ project known at present as ‘SSMB28’, directed by Trivikram Srinivas and co-starring Pooja Hegde.

Megastar Chiranjeevi, whose ‘Waltair Veerayya’ is currently in cinemas, stars in AK Entertainments’ ‘Bhola Shankar’, directed by Meher Ramesh and co-starring Tamannaah Bhatia and Keerthy Suresh.

‘Baahubali’ star Anushka Shetty leads UV Creations’ production No. 14, directed by Mahesh Babu P. and co-starring Naveen Polishetty, and Netflix will also stream the company’s untitled film, which is actor Kartikeya Gummakonda’s eighth, directed by Prashanth Reddy.

Ravi Teja stars in People Media Factory and Abhishek Agarwal Arts’ ‘Dhamaka’, directed by Trinadha Rao Nakkina, while Sundeep Kishan leads Studio Green’s ‘Buddy’, directed by Sam Anton.

Mythri Movie Makers, according to ‘Variety’, is contributing two films to the lineup — ‘Amigos’, starring Nandamuri Kalyan Ram and Ashika Ranganath, directed by Rajendra Reddy; and alongside Clap Entertainment, ‘Meter’, starring Kiran Abbavaram, directed by Ramesh Kaduri.

Sithara Entertainments has three films in the lineup — alongside Fortune Four Cinemas, ‘Butta Bomma’, starring Anikha Surendran, Surya Vasishta and Arjun, directed by Shourie Chandrasekhar Ramesh; alongside Srikara Studios a project currently identified as ‘PVT04’, starring Panja Vaisshnav Tej and Sreeleela, directed by Srikanth Reddy; and alongside Srikara Studios and Fortune Four Cinemas ‘Tillu Square’, starring Sidhu Jonnalagadda and Anupama Parameswaran, directed by Mallik Ram, reports ‘Variety’.

Sri Venkateswara Cine Chitra LLP has two titles — ‘VT12’, starring Varun Tej, directed by Praveen Sattaru; and alongside Sukumar Writings, ‘Virupaksha’, starring Sai Dharam Tej and Samyuktha Menon, directed by Karthik Varma Dandu. Sukumar Writings, alongside GA2 Pictures and Allu Arvind Presents, has ’18 Pages’, starring Nikhil Siddhartha and Anupama Parameswaran, directed by Surya Pratap Palnati.

Sri Lakshmi Venkateswara Cinemas also has two titles — their untitled sixth production starring Naga Shaurya, directed by Pawan Basamsetti; and ‘Dasara’, starring Nani and Keerthy Suresh, directed by Srikanth Odela.

‘Gangubai…’, ‘RRR’, ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2’ on Netflix’s global top 10 lists

Netflix India’s Vice-President (Content) Monika Shergill has said five Indian titles have featured on Netflix’s global top 10 lists so far this year. Viewership of Indian films on the streaming service has gone up by 50 per cent from last year, reports ‘Variety’.

Hits for the service include Alia Bhatt’s ‘Gangubai Kathiyawadi’, pan-India blockbuster ‘RRR’ and ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2’, starring Kartik Aaryan and Tabu.

Shergill also pointed out in an interview with ‘Variety’, coinciding with the streamer’s Films Day on Monday, that Indian movies featured in the Netflix non-English charts for 31 of the last 34 weeks.

Another hit Alia film has been ‘Darlings’, whose story revolving around domestic abuse, which debuted as the biggest non-English language original film opener for the service worldwide. The movie, co-produced by Alia with Red Chillies Entertainment, also features powerful performances by Shefali Shah and Vijay Verma.

Other titles showcased during Films Day included: ‘Chakda �Xpress’, inspired by the life of cricketer Jhulan Goswami, starring Anushka Sharma; heist thriller ‘Chor Nikal Ke Bhaga’, starring Yami Gautam and Sunny Kaushal; ‘Jogi’, which is set against the backdrop of the 1984 Delhi anti-Sikh riots, starring Diljit Dosanjh and directed by Ali Abbas Zafar; the satire ‘Kathal’, starring Sanya Malhotra; Vishal Bhardwaj’s spy thriller ‘Khufiya’ featuring Tabu, Ali Fazal, and Azmeri Haque Badhon; and Anurag Kashyap acolyte Vasan Bala’s whodunnit ‘Monica O My Darling’, with Rajkummar Rao, Huma Qureshi and Radhika Apte.

Also a part of the showcase were Shashanka Ghosh’s romantic comedy ‘Plan A Plan B’, starring Riteish Deshmukh and Tamannaah Bhatia; the intense drama ‘Qala’, directed by Anvita Dutt, which will see Irrfan Khan’s son Balih making his film debut; Zoya Akhtar’s comic book adaptation ‘The Archies’; and the Indian version of Keigo Higashino’s Detective Galileo novel, ‘The Devotion of Suspect X’, headlined by Kareena Kapoor Khan and directed by Sujoy Ghosh (“Kahaani”).

Disney Plus Hotstar has a shock for Netflix

Netflix is undoubtedly the leading OTT player and the digital platform is having millions of subscribers across the globe. Disney Plus Hotstar dethroned Netflix and emerged as the new leader. Disney Plus Hotstar is on the top with 221.1 million paid subscribers while Netflix stands second with 220.7 million subscriptions. Disney is a collaboration of Hotstar, HULU and ESPN. The shares of Disney Plus Hotstar came up by 6.9 percent. Netflix is having a bad year as the shares and the subscriptions came down. Disney Plus Hotstar has been rolling out its service on a faster note in all the nations and the promotional campaign worked big time. In India, Disney Plus Hotstar gained millions of new subscribers because of IPL and Bigg Boss majorly. The subscription prices of Netflix are higher while Disney Plus Hotstar is affordable. Keeping all these aside, Disney Plus Hotstar generates less per subscription revenue when compared to Netflix.

Documentary on Nayanthara-Vignesh’s love story in the works at Netflix

A documentary based on the love story of southern superstar Nayanthara and actor-director Vignesh Shivan, who recently tied the knot, will premiere soon on Netflix.

In this yet-to-be-titled documentary, the audience will get a view of Nayanthara and Vignesh’s love story, which culminated in a fairytale wedding at a famous resort in Mahabalipuram on June 9.

Tanya Bami, Series Head, Netflix India, said in a statement, “We are the home for unscripted content that is fresh and compelling, and has the power to connect with audiences in India and beyond.”

“Nayanthara has been a true superstar with a career spanning nearly 20 years. With our amazing creative partners, director Gautam Vasudevan and Rowdy Pictures, we cannot wait for our members to finally get to see Nayanthara’s journey that led to this fairytale wedding with Vignesh,” Tanya added.

Earlier, media reports had claimed that the newly-wed couple was served a legal notice by the OTT giant after posting of wedding pictures by Vignesh led to the violation of contract terms.

The reports, which said Netflix had exclusive rights to posting wedding pictures of the couple, also claimed that the OTT platform had paid for the wedding arrangements.

The latest development at Netflix seems to put an end to such unverified reports.

Shocker: Netflix loses a Million Subscribers

Top digital streaming platform Netflix has lost close to 1 million subscribers in the second quarter of this year and Netflix has a total of 221 million subscribers. The digital platform lost 9,70,000 subscribers in the second quarter till June and this is the highest loss for the streaming platform in the last decade. When compared to the first quarter of 2021, Netflix lost 2 lakh subscribers during the first quarter of the year. The shares of Netflix kept plunging. Netflix also hinted at a new and cheaper plan that will be available with advertisements between streaming.

For countries like India, Netflix’s plans are not affordable for everyone. Netflix also announced strict guidelines for logins and they are in plans to charge for password sharing. To draw new subscribers, Netflix is working with Microsoft and will launch a cheaper subscription with advertisements. The cheapest plan is expected to be priced at 10 USD per month in the United States. Microsoft will design and manage the platform for advertisements.

Digital giant Netflix has lost 2 lakh subscribers in the first quarter of 2022 and the top OTT platform never suffered such a huge setback in the last decade. Shyam Singha Roy Third Most-Watched Film On Netflix

Shocking: Netflix shelves Baahubali: Before the Beginning

The web series narrates the story of Shivagami and Wamiqa Gabbi was roped in for the role. Digital platforms like Amazon Prime, Disney Plus Hostar and Zee5 made it to most of the households in India because of the affordable subscription prices. Netflix is quite expensive for the Indians when compared to the other subscriptions and Netflix has subscribers close to just 50 lakhs in the country. To expand their market and increase the subscribers, Netflix slashed down the prices of the subscriptions. The basic Netflix plan was priced at Rs 499 per month and it will now cost Rs 199 per month. The standard plan is dropped down from Rs 649 to Rs 499 a month.

The basic mobile plan is slashed from Rs 199 to Rs 149. The premium plan is dropped from Rs 799 to Rs 649 per month. The users will have an option to Confirm Upgrade. The basic plans just offer 480p standard resolution and can be watched on any device. The other plans will get you upgraded to 1080p video and the premium plans helps you to stream videos with 4K resolution. Amazon Prime too hiked the price from Rs 999 to Rs 1499 in India per year.

Rana to close Virata Parvam deal for Netflix

Rana Daggubati is done with the shoot of Virata Parvam and the film was announced for summer release this year. The digital rights are picked up by Netflix for a decent price. Rana Daggubati has inked several deals with Netflix for future collaborations in association with his production house Suresh Productions. With the theatres yet to reopen and experts warning of the third wave of coronavirus, Rana Daggubati decided to close the deal of Virata Parvam and head for a direct digital release.

He is currently negotiating with Netflix for the final deal which will be closed soon. The film is expected to stream on Netflix next month if the talks are successful. Virata Parvam is directed by Venu Udugula and Rana Daggubati, Sai Pallavi are the lead actors. Suresh Productions and SLV Cinemas are the producers. The deals of Narappa and Drishyam 2 featuring Venkatesh are closed recently and they are heading for a direct digital release. Now its the turn for Rana Daggubati’s Virata Parvam.
