Suresh Babu’s sensational comments on Ticketing System

0

Veteran Producer Suresh Babu sounds quite practical and goes with the flow. He gets updated as per the trend and some of his recent films produced on Suresh Productions headed for a direct digital release. Though he was criticized, Suresh Babu made open statements that he and his partners are not ready to suffer losses during the pandemic times. During his recent media interaction, Suresh Babu made some sensational comments on the low ticket pricing and how the exhibition industry is shattered with the move.

“There would be a price for every product in the market. It is not wise to restrict the prices for movie tickets as the big-budget films would suffer badly to recover their investments. There are talks about black tickets which hardly exist for a day or two. I am surprised by the restrictions imposed on ticket prices. Considering the current ticket prices, it would be quite tough for the theatre owners to recover the electricity charges. The governments are ignoring our film industry. If the situations continue to be the same, the exhibition industry would be vanished” told Suresh Babu.

Both Theatres and OTT will co-exist says, Suresh Babu

Ever since Venkatesh’ Narappa is announced for a direct digital release, there are controversies around the decision. Suresh Babu who is also a distributor and exhibitor opted out for the digital path which triggered debates. Going deep into the issue, Suresh Babu explained that it was not his decision and it was made by Kalaipuli S Thanu who co-produced Narappa. He said that Thanu lost big money before the second wave due to Karnan’s theatrical run and he wanted Narappa to release on a digital platform.

“In the coming future, both theatres and OTTs will co-exist. The digital era has been changing the face of cinema. Technology is making entertainment accessible for everyone. Taking a hold on ticket pricing is not a good sign. We are not an essential commodity. They are restricting the film business. There are no businesses with restrictions. The governments should save the film industry and exhibition sector. Venkatesh is outstanding in the film and Narappa is a realistic commercial film. It is high on sentiment and action” told Suresh Babu during his recent interview.

Suresh Babu’s stand irks Tollywood circles

0

Veteran producer Suresh Babu is one of the most successful filmmakers of Telugu cinema. His experience and calculations on Telugu projects fetched positive results. Ever since the coronavirus pandemic attacked, Suresh Babu made some sensational comments about the film industry. He said that the theatres would not reopen for this year. The Centre is in plans to grant permissions for the reopening of theatres and the multiplex chains would be reopened sometime in October. Tollywood exhibitors and single screen owners are holding talks about getting back to work.

Suresh Babu is said to have continued his stand during the recent meetings. He is not ready to reopen the lease theatres that he owns till next year. Some of the producers and exhibitors are holding talks to reopen the screens across Telugu states from November so that the footfalls would gradually increase for Christmas and then for Sankranthi. Suresh Babu responds on Hiranyakashyapa budget

1

Veteran producer Suresh Babu has ample experience in production and distribution. Most of his projects ended up safe and raked money at the box-office. Over these years, Suresh Babu played it safe and was never into the production of big-budget projects. He is all set to present his son Rana Daggubati as a demon king Hiranyakashyapa. The film is expected to be made on a budget close to Rs 200 crores. There are several speculations about the budget and the makers alone know about the exact numbers.

The film was under extensive pre-production work for almost two years and Gunasekhar will direct the project. Speaking about this project, Suresh Babu said “Some stories need to be told lavishly. One should not compromise on the budgets of these projects. Hiranyakashyapa is one such film that needs to be told with high standards. If we compromise on the budget for this film, the audience will never return to theatres. We will go with the planned budget and there are no plans to slash down the budget after the arrival of coronavirus”.

Hiranyakashyapa will start rolling next year once Rana is done with his current projects. Some Hollywood technicians based in USA are working for the film which will be high on visual effects.

Suresh Babu’s suggestions for reopening of theatres

1

Top producer Suresh Babu has years of experience in cinema and he is an exhibitor, distributor apart from producing films. The veteran producer made it clear that this would not be the right time to reopen theatres. Leaving about footfalls, Suresh Babu says that there should be an ample number of films ready in each language if the theatres are reopened. He reminded the situation of China in which theatres were opened and closed in a week.

“China opened the theatres and they closed them soon as they had no enough films ready for release. Feeding all the theatres at this time is a challenge. There should be a bunch of films ready for release. The theatres should open two months after the shoots of the films resume. Several Telugu films are in the final stages of shoot and the Telugu film shoots may resume from July. There should be 30 films ready before theatres reopen” said Suresh Babu.

Exhibition sector is in a bigger trauma: Suresh Babu

0

Top producer Suresh Babu has hands of experience in cinema and he is one filmmaker who witnessed drastic changes in the industry. Speaking to a news channel, Suresh Babu said that Tollywood never faced such tough situations and he expressed his confidence in Tollywood bouncing back. Here are the highlights from his interview:

Nature created a lot of problems and everyone is aware of the crisis. I hope the financiers and banks support our producers in these tough times.

We are content creators and the exhibition of content is changing over the years. The exhibition sector is the most impacted due to coronavirus. We already requested the governments to waive off the minimum power bills for theatres and we are expected a positive response from the government.

We are social animals. Once the problem vanishes, the audience will rush to theatres for sure. This may take a year for sure or even more than that. Probably things get smoother once the vaccine and medicine for coronavirus are found.

We have to be much more efficient at work in the future. We are wasting badly. Everyone will focus more on cost-cutting and will work on strict budgets.

The theatrical experience is getting better every year and the audience will watch films on large screen for sure. Telugu industry is ready to fight down and every problem has a solution.

We have sorted out all the internal issues. All those who completed shoots will be given a chance for theatrical release first. The next bunch would follow after these. We will meet all the producers and will work collectively for better results.

Suresh Productions is in plans to produce content for OTT platforms. We have the material ready and will announce after the lockdown.

Suresh Babu about how he was mistaken as Kamal Haasan

1

With years of experience, Suresh Babu is one of the most successful Telugu producers and turned out to be a true successor for legendary producer D Ramanaidu. Suresh Babu never wanted to turn a producer during his initial days. Even his father Ramanaidu wanted him to choose a non-filmy career. Suresh Babu tested his luck in the ceramic field after he completed his studies and returned from USA. “My looks resembled the same of Kamal Haasan during our younger days. Even our cars are the same. I used to wave at the fans from my car when they try to stop me that Kamal is here. Even Bharatiraja approached me to act in one of his films, but it was a big no for acting” said Suresh Babu.

Success did not come in a day or two for Suresh Babu. He knew that he had story judging skills and made changes during story discussions. Four years after working for Suresh Productions, Suresh Babu wanted to return to USA. But it was the launch of Venkatesh as an actor which made him wait. “Though Venky had a decent launch, most of his projects during the initial days ended up as flops. Venky got the much-needed break with Bobbili Raja in the year 1990. I too decided to take up production and support Venky’s films after he got the break. I decided to continue production while Venky took up acting” said Suresh Babu.

Suresh Babu predicts the impact of coronavirus on Telugu cinema

0

Veteran producer, distributor Suresh Babu is sitting at home and is analyzing the situations and the impact of coronavirus on Telugu cinema. Suresh Babu leased out several theatres across Telugu states and he is one of the leading distributors of Telugu cinema. He says that Tollywood will take years to recover from this crisis. Andhra Pradesh and Telangana in total have 1850 theatres (single screens and multiplexes). Suresh Babu predicts that they would have to remain closed for months from now.

“The theatres should remain closed for a few more months. Theatres should open months after the shootings of Telugu movies resume. Things will turn normal once a vaccine for coronavirus is found. It is then the audience will return back to theatres to watch films. Things will continue to be worse until the vaccine is found. Right from the producers to the distributors and the exhibitors, everyone will lose big due to the crisis. Lakhs of people are left unemployed and everyone should support them” said Suresh Babu. He is currently producing Venkatesh’s Naarappa and Rana’s Virata Parvam which are aimed for release this year.
