Is Puri Jagannadh is directing songs and a couple of romantic scenes to help out his assistant? Puri Jagannadh is producing ‘Romantic’ which is his son Akash Puri’s second film as the lead hero. Puri’s assistant Anil Paduri is directing the movie. A major schedule is going in Goa. Akash Puri, Ketika Sharma, and Ramya Krishna are participating in the schedule.

Charmee has been overseeing the production but now Puri has also joined the team. Apparently, Puri Jagannadh wants to give his give own ideas to the director in picturizing the songs. Puri Jagannadh is a master in handling romantic scenes. He knows the pulse of mass audiences. His subdued taking of ‘Mehbooba’ in his son’s debut film didn’t work out. So, he is giving ‘iSmart Shankar’ touch to ‘Romantic’.

Puri is not entirely involving in the film but he is overseeing the direction of Anil Paduri in some sequences.

Touted to be a romantic entertainer, Sunil Kashyap is composing music for the film and the movie is expected to hit the screens next year.

Puri racing ahead with Jet Speed

Thanks to the super success of Ismart Shankar, Puri Jagannadh is working with double energy and jet speed. He already locked Vijay Devarakonda for his next film which is titled Fighter. The regular shoot starts early next year and will release late summer during the last week of May. Puri Jagannadh himself will produce Fighter on Puri Connects banner. Not stopping here, Puri Jagannadh met Nandamuri Balakrishna recently and impressed the veteran actor with an interesting plot.

Puri who takes less time to wrap up the script work is in plans to complete the script work of Fighter and Balakrishna’s film by the end of this year. After getting nod from Balakrishna, Puri started working on the full script. V Anand Prasad will bankroll this project on Bhavya Creations banner. On the whole, Puri is back to track and is working on jet speed on his upcoming projects.

Will Puri Jagan consider ‘quick proposal’ for Prabhas?

As ‘Saaho’ result went for a toss, Baahubali star Prabhas is reconsidering various project ideas and looking forward to finishing some quick films before he takes up another huge budgeted flick. Already he has a film with Jil movie fame director Radhakrishna in the pipeline.

Few people close to Prabhas including his cousin Pramod are said to be advising him to do a mass film with Puri Jagan. That’s not because the director understands the body language of heroes well, but because he could wrap a film in less than 100 days. Upon Pramod’s advice, few people close to both Prabhas and Puri are said to have started consultations already.

After speaking to them over a phone call from Bangkok, Puri Jagan is said to have asked for some time before he takes a call on the project. The director is currently free, but he has committed to Vijay Devarakonda’s film who shooting might kickstart from the last week of December.

Though films like Bujjigadu and Ek Niranjan are not huge commercial hits as expected, they changed the way Prabhas takes up mass films and created huge impact on his body language too. So, a film with Puri Jagan is always exciting.

Kannada star in Puri’s dream project

The smashing success of iSmart Shankar gave a new lease of life to director Puri Jagannadh who has been struggling to deliver a decent hit since the last five years. As expected, Puri is putting all possible efforts to revive his ambitious project Jana Gana Mana which he was supposed to do with Telugu superstar Mahesh Babu.

As Mahesh is not fully convinced with Puri’s script the project didn’t take off beyond discussion stages. Recently, it is was speculated that young sensation Vijay Devarakonda might star in this crazy project. However, it turned out to be just a rumour as Vijay was never approached by Puri for Jana Gana Mana.

Now, the latest reports revealed that Puri is planning to rope in Kannada sensation Yash, who became an overnight star with the humongous success of KGF Chapter 1. Reportedly, Puri has already met Yash and narrated the script and his character. Yash sounded optimistic and agreed to feature in it after the final narration. So, it is likely that Yash will star in this ambitious patriotic drama which has a strong social plot with many burning and contemporary issues.

Puri felt that the story of Jana Gana Mana has universal appeal and wants to make it as a multilingual film. If everything goes as planned, the project will go on floors very soon.

Puri clarifies on Ismart Shankar Plagiarism Issue

Sensational director Puri Jagannadh made his comeback with Ismart Shankar, a mass entertainer that featured Ram, Nabha Natesh and Nidhhi Agerwal in the lead roles. Tamil actor Akash recently met the press and claimed that Ismart Shankar has been inspired from his 2016 film Naan Yaar. Puri Jagannadh and his team are busy touring across Telugu states meeting fans in theatres. During a press meet, Puri responded about the plagiarism row. He said “Ismart Shankar is my story and I did not copy it from anywhere. Akash did not meet or approach me till date about this. I have seen this in the media. Puri Plays to his Strengths

The maverick director and filmmaker Puri Jagannadh gained much popularity after his debut film Badri with his out of the box lines,  dialogues and crazy characterizations of the lead roles. His characters never have an added layer of nicety or polished nature, but they are unbashfully themselves. Whether it was Ravi Teja’s character as a determined lover in Idiot, or the petty goon Pandu (Mahesh Babu) in Pokiri, or the badass police offer Jr.NTR in Temper, Puri Jagannadh always strikes the bull’s eye with his striking characterizations. At one point, the viewer will also be tempted to think that it is his mind which is talking through the characters he created! It was this fearless and frivolous nature of lead characters which became the biggest USP of Puri’s films. Over the years, he has churned out a unique formula of a commercial film which also dwells deeply on philosophy and spirituality! This indeed is a strange combination because in real life- commercial living and spirituality are poles apart.

To get an essential high in terms of filmmaking and presentation, filmgoers love to go to Puri’s films. However, after Temper, the director was struggling to find his sweet spot in bringing out a commercial hit. His last release Mehbooba featuring his son Akash Puri as a lover boy didn’t do much well at the Box Office.

But the determined filmmaker made sure that his next film will be paying to his strengths- which comprises of strong-willed hero, witty punch dialogues, and rope tight script. With Ram’s Ismart Shankar, Puri got back to his essential strengths with amazing honesty in the script. Interestingly, he made Energetically Star Ram a new makeover as a Telangana goon with a sci-fi twist. The audience are flocking to theatres to just get a high of the rawness of the flick and Mani Sharma’s background score is also getting much adoration.

It is indeed a brilliant comeback for Puri Jagannadh and Mani Sharma back into the groove with nerve-wracking hit by ISmart Shankar doing well at the Box Office! This proves time and again that trusting your instincts and strengths will bring out the best output in Cinema!

All is not well – Ram flies abroad after a spat with Puri

Energetic Star Ram and sensational director Puri Jagannadh teamed up for the first time for Ismart Shankar and the film is raking massive revenues all over. The film entered the safe zone even before the first weekend. The film carried decent expectations but Puri’s recent track record made trade show no interest over the film. Puri and his team managed to find buyers in the last minute and the film got a decent release.

Ram who was promised Rs 5 crores remuneration but he was paid Rs 2.5 crores in advance. Ram too did not mount pressure as he had a firm belief in Puri. But things changed completely after Ram’s pending remuneration was not paid before the release. The actor decided to skip the post-release promotions as he was not paid the full amount.

Ram’s uncle Sravanthi Ravikishore is handling the issue and he is in plans to approach the Producers’ Council if the issue doesn’t get sorted out in the next couple of days. Puri Jagannadh is expected to be left in hefty profits as the film has been doing stunning theatrical business and with the digital, satellite deals closed before release. We have to wait to see if Puri settles Ram’s remuneration before things turn loud and trigger controversies.

Sensational filmmaker Puri Jagannadh got a huge relief after his recent offering Ismart Shankar has been named as a blockbuster. The ace director who was badly criticized for his recent works bounced back with a bang. Several gossip portals speculated that Puri Jagannadh is reviving his dream project ‘Janaganamana’ with Vijay Devarakonda in the lead role. But this is not true.

Puri decided to take a small break for a month and will spend time with his family. The ace director met Nandamuri Balakrishna recently and expressed his desire to team up with his after Paisa Vasool. After he got a positive nod, Puri decided to work on the script and he will narrate it to Balayya once he gets a good draft. With all the other actors occupied and Balayya always encouraging, Puri decided to team up with the veteran actor.

Balayya too is busy with KS Ravikumar’s project and he is yet to sign his next. While Boyapati is in the race, Puri is in plans to work on the script and impress Balakrishna at the earliest. Puri Jagannadh also announced a sequel for Ismart Shankar and the project may materialize next year.

Pokiri is one film that instantly put the protagonist and director of the movie on number one slot. However, Puri’s recent comments regarding doing another film with Mahesh Babu irked the fans of superstar and subsequently, words exchanged between the fans of Mahesh Babu and the supporters of Puri in social media.

Puri’s comments:

After delivering successful iSMART Shankar, Puri told in an interview that many fans of Mahesh Babu still asking him to do a movie with Mahesh Babu, but Mahesh Babu himself is not agreeing to do film with him as he is not on success track. It is known news that Puri readied a script for Mahesh Babu with title ‘Janaganamana’ and, had things moved well, it would have been 25th film of Super star in place of Maharshi. However, reporter asked Puri, whether he will convince Mahesh now as he got success with iSMART Shankar. For this, Puri replied, his character (self-respect) will not agree to do that.

Mahesh fans’ arguments:

His statements that Mahesh is only after success irritated Mahesh fans and they started countering Puri’s statements in every possible way. They argue, Mahesh gave Pokiri to Puri after his duds like 143 and Super. They add, before ’ Business man’ movie also, Puri delivered duds like Nenu Naa Rakshasi and still Mahesh gave him film. They prove with examples that Mahesh gave films not only to Puri but to other directors like Srinu Vaitla, Srikanth Addala and Sukumar also irrespective of their success track.

Who is right and who is wrong?

First things first. Selecting a script, director and movie is never a personal choice, even for star heroes. With crores of money involved, heroes tend to take decisions completely based on commercial prospects keeping mind that no one among producer, distributors and exhibitors should lose. There have been instances when stars deny the chances to their own family members. So Mahesh Babu’s decision also might be on similar lines. But being a star hero, he cannot come out and say the reasons for rejecting Puri’s script.

Secondly, Puri also might be knowing all this and yet he raised the topic of Mahesh Babu. It is to be remembered that, Puri did similar exercise before one of his previous movies ‘Heart Attack’ in which Nitin was hero. Just a day before release of that movie, Puri spoke about his alleged differences with Pawan Kalyan during “Cameramen Ganga tho Rambabu”. Raising a topic that has slight tint of controversy and that interests many of the audience while his own movie is running on screens, is a good marketing strategy. Puri seems to have mastered that by now.

As movie folks know all these stuff, it will not be a surprise if Mahesh agrees a movie with Puri in future if script really impresses him. It will also be not a surprise, if Puri gives clarification on this ongoing controversy in future when his next film hits the screen, provided the topic still has potential to pull the attraction of readers and audience.

Maverick director PuriJagannadh and energetic actor Ram Pothineni teamed up for the first time and they are ready with an out and out mass entertainer titled as ISmart Shankar. The bold and intense trailers have evoked a decent response from mass audience and set good expectations on the film in commercial zone.

Can Puri deliver the much needed with I Smart Shankar ? Let’s find out.

Story :
Shankar ( Ram) alias self-proclaimed ‘UstaadIsmart Shankar’ is a supari killer in Hyderabad.He’s jailed after assassinating the chief minister, and escapes after a year. CBI pursues another high profile case and Shankar’s case in parallel. CBI Officer (Satyadev) dies in a trap incident, the department want his memories to take the case further. A fictional surgery written around Hippocampus memory takes the story to next phase. How double memory Shankar takes on the culprits is the rest of the story

Analysis : 
This film scores less on story front, high on energy and entertainment levels. The racy screenplay, Puri’s strength in infusing humor into the scene overcome majority of the shortcomings. For e.g. there is a major story element around the interval block which is potentially a laughing stock but PuriJagan made it acceptable by narrating it in lighter vein.

Right from the title cards movie takes off with loads of energy and continues till the interval. Puri who is famous for eccentric characterization for his hero, found a perfect match to elevate it further. Hero Ram is terrific in his elements and got into the skin of the tapori Shankar character. There were few concerns about his dialect from trailers, but in the film his dialogue delivery is good and appealing to masses. He danced like a magic in title song and his steps in ‘Bonalu’ Song, ‘Dhimakhkharaab’ songs are good as well. Telugu mass audience who have been missing these elements for a while will be entertained thoroughly. Interval raises hope on interesting second half.

Now comes the key part of the film, second half. Even this one takes off smoothly with some comedy but progress in very predictable manner and in revenge format. Story is very pale in second half, but the climax is Okay because of Mani Sharma’s excellent background score.

Heroines NabhaNatesh, NiddhiAgerwal are good fit for their roles. Nabha’s dialogues many of them are straight expletives. Niddhi Agerwal as neuroscientist played a class role, glamour show in one beach song each. Sayaji Shinde, Satyadev played CBI officers roles, they are fine.

Manisharma made his presence felt with commercial hit audio songs, good background score. Junaid Siddique‘s editing is excellent, so is Raj Thota’s cinematography.

Verdict : 
Ismart Shankar is a paisa vasool commercial potboiler. Director Puri Jagan and Hero Ram complemented each other well, for Ram this is career best performance. First half is entertaining, but the second half goes flat with very predictive revenge formulaic path. Family audience may find it difficult to adjust to the Puri mark hard-hitting dialogues. This film may work well at Telugu States’ Box office.

One last chance for Puri Jagannadh to bounce back

Dashing filmmaker Puri Jagannadh’s career is in dire straits due to successive flops. After NTR’s Temper, which released in 2015, Puri has been struggling to deliver the goods. All his films in the last four years left no trace at box office and ended as embarrassing debacles. His poor track record cost him opportunities to direct Mahesh Babu and Chiranjeevi.

Puri has now got one last chance to bounce back with his upcoming film I Smart Shankar which has Ram in the lead role. The result of this film is very crucial for him both as a producer and a director. He has neither got any offers waiting from other production houses nor he has a chance to work with star heroes at this point. So, the fate of his career depends on how I Smart Shankar performs at box office. If the film manages to bring vintage Puri back to form, he might get a chance to narrate stories to star heroes or atleast work with medium range heroes.

As producer, Puri’s last hit was Mahesh Babu’s Pokiri. After that he produced a few films, but failed to bag profits. He lost a lot of money on his son’s debut film Mehabooba which released last year. For I Smart Shankar, he is one of the producers with Charmy Kaur. So, he is desperately looking for a break that will give him a sigh of relief and put his career back on the track.

I Smart Shankar trailers have struck a chord with mass audience as they are filled with typical Puri mass elements and lead characterisation. Ram has gone for a completely new makeover in this film. Puri is confident that I Smart Shankar will end his quest for a decent hit he has been waiting for. Industry circles are trade analysts opine that this is one last chance for Puri to revive his low lying career.
